hey so spoiler warning for iron lung!!
when simon tears off his hand, i noticed that he barely reacts with pain to it, which is of course, shock and adrenaline BUT i think it could also be another sign that hes already become something other, part of the blood ocean, so its no longer about separating his body, its just a cog in the people goop machine yk. i dont know it just caught me off guard how numb he was to it
also another thing i wanted to bring up, you know how you have the "they will get their execution, i will get my freedom" by which its originally meant "yea ill die, the coi got me, but at least ill be free from existence". i think what happens at the end of the movie is like an inversion of exactly that; "i will get their execution, they will get my freedom" , because ava dies in the ocean; she was the representative of the coi here and she was the one to get executed, and simon heard it first hand. while i would argue simon got neither executed nor freed, his death was slow and torturous and he very visibly became part of the living ocean, he did, however, give the coi his freedom, aka the blackbox, the truth he found that will help them.
anyways the iron lung has rotted my brain, cant think about anything else, it's bigger than us!!
