It was a sunny autumn afternoon. The cold breeze blow through your hair as you walked by the forest searching for some roots and leaves for you next meal. Your house wasn’t far from there, you lived on a little farm with few animals for eggs and milk only. Your father was an old warrior that passed away some months ago by his age. You were his youngest daughter of seven of his child, all other were grown man that moved away to live with their own families.
Not far from where you were, you hear horse footsteps getting closer. You hide behind a big oak tree fearing that might be burglars and thieves, and you were a young lady alone in the woods. You check behind the tree and see a whitish horse, alone and scared running through the dense forest. You see that he had a lead, so it might have an owner. You advance on his path, trying to chill him out with your arms wide open and he suddenly stops running. “Shush, here boy… don’t be scared” you say in a soft low voice while you move slowly not to scare him more than he already is. You grab an apple that you have brought for snack, you give it a bite and offer it to the horse that comes on your direction and gently grabs the apple from your hand. You hold his lead and pet him while offering him some fresh fruits you grabbed this morning. “There, there, big boy… everything is ok now...”
Suddenly you hear a man’s voice echoing along the trees, calling a nome you couldn’t yet understand, maybe it was the horse’s owner. You carefully walks toward the voice direction. The horse was surely well cared and on good shape, but his owner’s intentions were still unknown, it still might be an assassin, or a thief. If that were the case you’d leave the horse on the path so his owner would find him. At far, through the silhouettes of the trees, you spot a tired man, with golden hair and in good shape, he probably walked miles after his horse, he had a heavy armor ‘A knight, maybe...’ you think. He obviously doesn’t look like a burglar of some kind. You walk in his direction bringing the horse with you. As the horse sees his owner he rushes in his direction. The man hold him and pets him with a relieved but yet frustrated expression
“By the Gods! What were you thinking, boy? Since when are you scared of some little coyotes?” He notices some footsteps on his direction and turn around to thank the person who got his most precious friend. His eyes glows as he sees you, the way the orange light of the late afternoon sun shines through your long hair and the softness of your dress falling over your legs while you walk. “I…” he looks speechless, you think that he was tired of running by the dense woods, but he was in shock to spot the most beautiful woman he had ever seen, right in front of him in the middle of nowhere.
You offer him some water as you giggle by his confused expression “Here… get some rest” you suggest him while you pet his horse that seems calm and relaxed now.
He take the sack of water from your hands as he smiles believing now that what he was seeing wasn’t a mirage of his tiredness “Thank you, milady” he drinks almost the full sack and hand it over to you once again. You keep looking at him and notice that this man was quite handsome and had a comforting and strong presence with a nostalgic color on his eyes, you keep looking at him for a while and you don’t notice for how long until he calls for you “Milady…? Is there any problem?”.
You feel your cheeks get hot as you blush. “I’m so sorry, sir…” you expect to hear his name.
He smiles “It is me that should be sorry, milady, for the lack of politeness. I’m Éomer, son of Éomund. And you milady…?” he bounces as he introduces himself to you.
The name strikes you like a bolt, you knew him when you were younger “Éomer…? By the Gods! You’re so grown up! I’m Y/N , youngest daughter of Asger… I’m not sure if you’ll remember me” You bounce as you lift the skirt of your dress a little introducing to him.
The man keeps thothful because the name wasn’t unfamiliar. He suddenly remembers that your father’s name was the same as of his old teacher before his parents passed away. “Asger the spearman?” he asks with a nostalgic and happy tone on his voice.
“The same...” you reply with a smile of proud on your face of your father’s name being known.
He took a while to remember because you were his sister’s little friend, you and her used to run way once and awhile to train with swords hidden from your parents’ sight, but he knew. All those memories brings a smile to his face, he looks cheerful as he asks “Would it bother if I pay the man a visit? He was the one that taught me the ways of war...”
You knew that your father was an important man in Rohan, but he moved to the countryside after the dead of Rohan’s royals, Éomers parents. Your expression changes to a bitter smile, how could you give the man the news that you father passed away months before?
He notices the change of your expression and interrupts you before you give any response “I’m sorry milady, My sincere condolences. I didn’t know... Is there any place I can give my horse some water? I won’t bother you anymore”.
You smile at him and say “You can come to my place. It’s not far from here”. Suddenly the thought hits you: that you were inviting a MAN to your house, where you lived by yourself, what were you thinking? Sure you knew each other as kids, but now things are different, and it was too late to go back on your words.
The man looks shy for a bit “If there’s any problem...I can go to a tavern near, don’t intend to bother your plans with your husband...”
You laugh out loud “I don’t have one…and you couldn’t bother me” you were only making things worse for yourself, what the hell were you thinking? The guy was gorgeous for sure, but you didn’t know his true intentions.
“I would be honored.” he bows to you once again, as he takes his horse by his side.
As there was any exit of the situation you just guide the man and his horse through the woods until you get home.
