I have EDS, and those exercises in that last post look like exactly the things my rheumatologist have warned me to stay away from. D: Especially the range of motion ones, those are damaging!

oh no! ok I took EDS out of the tags and added a bit about checking with a Dr and not hyperextending. 

I guess I should say that in general with EDS you shouldn't do strengthening or stretching that involves exceeding a normal range of motion (if you aren't sure that that is please try and ask a Dr or physical therapist bc its easy to assume that your normal is a healthy ROM). If you can modify an exercise so that you stay in a normal ROM and do not hyperextend you are likely ok. Gentle stretching of muscles to release knots or lengthen inappropriately tight muscles is sometimes necessary and ok as long as you are hyperextending anything or putting a lot of strain on any joint - again ideally this is something you ask a professional about bc it can be tricky to tell.

Olive as a colour s definitely green yes but when we say olive-skinned we basically mean 'mediterranean' - southern French, Italian, Greek

I think it refers to a kind of olive grown in the Mediterranean area? I think it's the kalamata olives?

Kalamata is indeed on the Mediterranean, it's in Greece (Peloponnese) and they do wonderful olives and olive oil there, but idk are these olives the actual colour of the skin described?

Right? Some skin is brown with a hue of that brown-green you see on unripened olives, maybe the ones still on the tree.

I... didn't know olives could be that colour. But do people have a brown-green hue on their skin?? that's not what I see

Olive-skinned actually refers to people from the meditarrenean area and more in the south (Greek, Iranian etc...)

I think they mean the black olives. When people say olive-skinned they mean "sort of dark" or "brown". No idea why it's an olive.

but it's weird, because they're referring to people who aren't as dark as olives? as far as I know, because apparently I'm missing a few shades of olive haha

It means green UNDERTONES. It refers to middle eastern/Mediterranean people

don't worry; it's an easy mistake to make and such words are really horrifically deeply ingrained into common vocabulary. The important thing is that you reacted appropriately to being told such a term used casual ableism by apologising and trying not to do the same again

currently tiny chatting a load of spoonies. it's good to talk to people where things like 'I only go to the ER for non-spoonie things now, like when I broke my finger leapfrogging', 'crap I just dislocated a rib brb' and 'I believe in the powers of potatoes, but that's the only non-medical stuff I usually do' are normal.
