Inspired by a real conversation on the LU discord server. I felt like writing this semi fluffy one shot fic. It know it a bit chaotic- I do applogize for it. I hope thoug you guys will enjoy it. The characters are based from @jojo56830 @linkeduniverse series. So yeah. Enjoy.
The need to normalize platonic love as in friends and family. Being able to say “I love you.” Without it having to be strictly reserved to relationship (couple) based. Meaning other then “I love you.” In the way it was meant to be said. In a caring way. Of two people or group, being able to say so.
The nine ate their food prepared by Wild quietly, as they attempted to warm up after a storm hit them. All huddled by the fire, eating stew, in a cave. Wind looked a bit down in memory of his grandma’s soup. It was clear many of the members missed home. People in it. They also had their secrets and stuff they wouldn’t talk about. It was normal. Not like they didn’t want to talk about it, just some things were clearly too painful to speak about. Though Wild often was open about his experience, there were things he actively chose not to talk about.
Four was curious of some things about the two main leaders of their group. Simply cause Time was cryptic and Twilight just avoided subjects all together. Though seeing how close he was with Time. He sensed something greater between the two. Like a family bond in a way. Legend often being nosy pouting out the amount of time the two were of privately talking. “They always seem to talk in private with each other.” He would often comment. “Oh I know, just none of our business and honestly don’t care. “ four would often reply. Warriors also spotting their often closeness as well. Being captain of his own crew.
He picked up on tight bonds between his men. “I saw this often with my own men-“ he would start out but never complete his sentence cause legend would make a joke of it. “Oh really...” as a snide remark. “You know, it’s a platonic thing, a bond that shared often in deep emotional friendship or family.” Four would jump in before something was taken out of context. He quickly learned to just step in like that. After seeing how uncomfortable a few of the Links showed great discomfort in the thought of mention of something being something other then what it truly was.
Twilight being the main one who just turned away or hid his face when anything of the relationship nature came up. Or make a light joke of “I came for the cake, not this.” Said With an awkward smile. Also the fact there was younger members of their team. It just made sense, talk of such was just not mentioned. Unless warriors got a bit too plastered and would try drunkenly push for information out of his more older leaders. Only to have that sort of back fire. So what about the two? What of Times and Twilights connection made them interesting?
Wild just happy to have warm food in his belly and cooking made him happy. It meant it was a way to say thank you. A simple gesture of love. For the guys whom he traveled with. He looked at everyone and of course twilight smiles back him. Like “you did good kid.” Also cause twilight got food.
The feral being he was himself loved food as much as wild. Time just smiled and shook his head. He viewed wild as like a second child of his. Through his connection to Twilight. Even if not by blood. He viewed wild as so. The rest were like Conrad’s that he felt equally protective of, a brotherhood. Sky being the most most innocent of them all.
Sky being cheerful despite the weather and the mishap along the way then spoke up, snapping the group out of their thoughts and moods. “Twilight, what is your home like?”
Twilight sensed sky’s homesickness. He looked down at his soup and then back at sky with a soft smile. “It’s beautiful. Just perfect. It’s a fairly small village. So everything is right where you needed it. The villagers are helpful to each other, like one giant family. Everyone knows everyone. I couldn’t have asked for more.” Everyone just smiled, it was the first they honestly heard such deep feeling of twilight, who is guarded about emotion of such. Time knew all to well why. The rest, they had no idea. Like before “we all have our secrets.” Was sort of a known fact. Time places a hand on twilight’s back. Knowing that wasn’t easy thing to talk about.
Sharing something so private and revealing. “I feel we are all like a family here. We may not always know a lot about each other. However I think we all care enough to want to protect each other.” He said with a smile and wink at his Pup.
Hyrule, the most mysterious of their group surprised them with saying “they need to make saying ‘I love you.’ More platonically to others like friends or in our case just a bunch of guys on a wild adventures to defeat some dark thing- you get what I mean.” He goes quiet, feeling silly. Four picking up this, “no you’re right. We should make that normal thing to be said. We don’t hear it enough.” Few of the guys nodded in agreement. Time felt twilight tense up. He lightly patted his back and and went back to his own soup. Twilight stared into at his stew. Wild and four catching Twilights discomfort. Wild, picked up a pebble and tossed it, hitting twilight’s leg. “Ouch, what was that for?” He glared at Wild, who had the largest grin on his face. Wild then signed to twilight, “I love you, more then any other idiot in our team.” Twilight snorted and then sighed back, “I love you too, eat your food you idiot.” Time chuckled. And ruffled Twilights hair. Warrior and legend both watching in aw over the exchange, “okay, will some please explain what they both said. It’s not fair they got that secret ability to sign to each other...” legend said. Four places a hand on legend and smiles “sometimes others aren’t able to verbally able to say things and so they say them in other ways. That is theirs and it’s private.” Legend didn’t like that it was so secretive, but he got it now. Twilight and wild both were clearly uncomfortable verbalizing many of their emotions and things they wish they could say. “So... they.....” “Yup.” Said Time.
Hyrule smiles and before taking a sip of stew, “even sometimes not even saying something and just small gestures is how one can express a feeling. I see that a lot with you wild and Twilight. It’s fantastic. Don’t ever feel pressure to have to do anything you are not comfortable with. We love and care about you both equally however you express that.” Twilight smiles and have a light nod towards Hyrule. Things went quiet after a while.
“Hey warriors, I love you. How bout you shut the fuck up some times.” Legend then smirked at the captain. Warriors flashed a smile back and respond, “love you too, but I am sorry. Too fab to keep you not entertained.” The gang all busted up laughing. The cave feeling full of love and warmth along the Nine hero’s. And soon one by one they all said something they liked or loved about each other. Though wild and Twilight sat in silence and smiled or chuckled. Time as well.
From the day forward the group made a habit to say “I love you.” In whatever way they could. Making they group grow closer together, normalizing a word often used in a non platonic way. They bond growing stronger, sharing a closeness of a true brotherhood with each other. They we’re one giant family.
