Takeru and Yusaku stood on the steps of their school. Just beneath where the last of the caveat of the facade was erected. Rain pooled in front of them; it was raining pretty hard, storming even. Takeru laughed awkwardly.
“It was so sunny this morning...” he mentioned.
“Mm, yeah.” Yusaku mumbled.
“Did you, uh, bring an umbrella?” Takeru asked.
Yusaku shook his head.
“I didn’t either.” Takeru lamented. He sighed. “Should we wait it out?”
Yusaku looked towards Takeru with a steely gaze which assured Takeru that everything was going to be alright. Despite the dreary grey of the rain, the world suddenly seemed brighter now that he had such radioactive green eyes all to himself. His heart skipped a beat.
“I have an idea.” Yusaku said.
“Excellent, what is it?” Takeru asked; chirruped, really given his forever sunny disposition.
Yusaku took off his jacket in a way which made it seem like he had wings. He put one arm over Takeru’s head; forcing him to crouch down slightly.
“And you do the same for me.” Yusaku said.
“O-Okay.” Takeru replied, his words jutting out of his mouth, broken with disappointment and surprise due to such a stoic delivery of such an awful idea.
Takeru copied Yusaku but they soon found that their jackets were too stiff for such an idea. Ai and Flame were snickering in their respective Duel Discs.
“New idea,” Yusaku said, “between the two of us, who’s taller?”
“Um, you, I think.” Takeru replied.
“Cool.” Yusaku said.
Yusaku then forced Takeru down and leaned across his back; his jacket flared.
“Now, let’s book it.” Yusaku said.
Takeru, squealing over how stupid this was, did it anyway. They had about ten metres worth of success. Their hearts raced as they formed one, bulbous and less than cohesive unity. Their hearts raced as they tried to run in time with one another. Yusaku, continually, stomping at the bit and at Takeru’s heels.
They gave up once they reached the school gates.
“I think we should give up.” Takeru said.
“Yeah, but it was worth a shot.” Yusaku said; a touch testy as he felt the need to justify himself.
They sighed as Yusaku unhooked himself from Takeru’s back. The rain still pounded and they, mournfully, made their way through the streets, with soggy hair and drenched to the bone clothes.
