" Are you really going to let your sister endure a torment in fulfilling that man's desires? Aren't you tired of his filth? "
A hard, mirthless chuckle was included with Quelios' impassive response. "Clearly, you have no idea what the noble-born have to endure on the daily." The cool, jade eyes flicked toward the stranger, offering a dry wit. "My sister's betrothed is one Lord Inne'thar Emberfall, by the way, not 'filth'. And if she does not intend to marry him, are you going to? Because that would solve at least one problem we're all having."
Those eyes narrowed on the stranger, Lio's deft fingers resting on the chest strap that locked his quiver to place. "I think we should talk more about how you know my sister, actually. Who do I have the pleasure to be judged by?"

nano excerpt #3: can you spell conflict?
They sat there and talked for a little longer. When Marina and Toni had to go back to work, Lucas took a long time to stand at the kitchen counter and re-live the last minutes. The subject soon changed from Veganism to something entirely different that Lucas couldn't remember afterwards. It was nonsense, mostly, and Lucas only was able to recall how Toni looked. His dark hair shading his eyes when he looked down to think about what he wanted to say, that big smile when he spoke about his job that showed he was truely happy to be a paramedic. The way he was with Marina, so open and easy going although he couldn't have had much time to get to know her. It made Lucas want to have Toni be as easy-going with him as he was with her. He felt a surge of eagerness run through his body at that thought. God, would this ever stop?!
On top of that, he actually promised to prepare a vegan meal. He's never cooked anything 100% vegan before and he wasn't sure he liked the idea of how easily he wanted to do something nice to Toni. Was it because he seemed so distressed for having to decline the food? Was it the disappointing pain in his gut that he felt when he saw Toni fight with himself over the food?
Whatever it was, he wanted to be better than he was. He wanted to show to Toni how good he was. No, not only show, he wanted to be good to him.
And that came from a person who himself had mocked vegetarians for their choice of food before. At that thought he suddenly felt ashamed of ever making fun of them, as if Toni could find out by looking at him and get mad. Lucas still didn't understand any of it, but to Toni is was obviously very important. Maybe there was something missing that Lucas had to find out before he could get to understand Toni and his reasoning.
And maybe he liked the idea of that a lot more than he should. After all, in less than one hour Darian would be home from work.
