Corporal Lawrence of Waterwood
I see, from where Hawkeye, Erin O'Driscoll and I stand, the Lieutenant show up from the direction of the camp, approaching Johanna. "… Desertee … threatening … agreed to come with … work something out," I hear unclearly in the loud wind. Lieutenant Kazakov then gesticulates in our direction, which results in Dahl walking towards us. She forwards us his decision: "Formally, Erin, you are our prisoner. You two," she nods towards us, "will carry the meat over to the Lieutenant. Hold on, Erin, would you please give your rifle over to Lawrence? I'd not like to shoot you, you know." I shoulder Erin's rifle. "Okay, even though you are only formally our prisoner, I still have to guard you. So, the Lieutenant wants to meet you in person. Let's go," she closes. Once we've made our way over to the Lieutenant, who has since gotten reinforced by two Privates, he orders them to take over in carrying the game and to see to it that it gets properly skinned and cooked, "and fast," he adds, "we're all hungry."
Now we stand here, five unfortunate souls, in a scenario we didn't wish for, hungry and tired and annoyed. "Sir," I try to begin, but he halts me by putting up his hand. "What's your name," he asks our desperate friend, which she answers with her name, as before. "Okay, O'Driscoll, I'm Lieutenant Leonid Constantinovich Kazakov. I think that my present subordinates can attest to the fact that I only want to help others, right," he asks us, nodding," these three of your new friends have surely told you. But," he continues, raising his right pointer finger, "I can only help if I understand your situation. So, what is your story?"
"I'm a desertee," we hear, almost inaudible in the wind. "I realise you now have a reason to shoot me dead on the spot," she continues more loudly, "when I think you'll find my desertion is not without reason." "Indubitably," the Lieutenant answers. "I chose a time without any offenses, so I would not leave my post like a coward and abandon my platoon honorlessly," Erin O'Driscoll explains. "My Lieutenant used me as a runner most of the time. So I'm not all that important anyway." Lt. Kazakov nods understandingly, thinks for a second, then finally asks her: "What platoon were you part of, then, O'Driscoll?"
Castiel is more aware of Dean than he has been in years— more aware of him than he has ever been.
A lot of falling in love with Dean Winchester happened while Castiel was somewhat muted. And a lot of being somewhat muted made him feel more alive than he ever imagined. Now, it layers and blends into something new and familiar and loud. Now, he can hear the song of Dean’s blood through his veins. He knows the way Dean’s chest expands and retracts on each intake of breath the way he knows quick-math. He marks the way Dean’s throat bobs both because he can sense the motion of his mylohyoid muscle and because he knows that Dean sometimes swallows when he cannot speak. It is all of it at once.
The radio bleeds to static. The car hums its body weight against the press of the road.
“Cas,” Dean whispers.
The streetlights pass over them in waves, changing the shape of his face, sharpening and softening it as they roll between them.
Castiel can taste the way Dean’s heart quickens when he speaks, can smell the sharp scent of his skin as it changes. Every atom that makes up the man beside him is technicolor in the darkness.
There is nothing to say, the silence holds everything.
Lockheed update (most important part of the epilogue) - he's a happy baby.

Not forgotten or abandoned: the short little bkdk comic I'm working on. At first I kinda dread the background but at one point filling the scene with life gets actually fun.
