Live big 🔥
I have the most inspiring friends, who are living proof that you can make your dreams come true. 🌟 Today, as I get ready to attend tonight's premiere of brand new Netflix series 13 Reasons Why at Paramount (thank you for the invite, Jay Asher!), I'm also celebrating the return of my bff Angelo Surmelis from NYC where he met the amazing team at Harper Collins/Balzer + Bray publishing his brilliantly beautiful debut YA novel, The Art of Blending In (out Jan '18!!), AND the grand opening of the gorgeous Maven Beverly Hills, which is the new salon owned and run by the lovely and talented Meredith Morris, one of my favorite people on earth. 🎉💕 Is it any wonder I didn't sleep?! Thank you to all three of them for inspiring me, for living out there, and for understanding the importance of hard work, integrity, and dreams!
“I feel there is one element of leadership that has been ignored for too long. A very important element: great leaders lead by not doing much.
Great leaders are masterful because they don't get in the way. They don't interfere. When you step away from your ego and you release your competitive streak, you become nicer, better, and more effective. When you don't force your ideas on everyone else, when you don't force a direction, magical things happen.
Your team comes together. They come up with amazing ideas. They set the direction and they are inspired to follow it. They try harder. They do more. And this can only happen when there is no interference and disruption from an egotistical leader who loves hearing his own voice. It seems like a counterintuitive concept for leadership, l know. But I can tell you it works. It's worked for me for more than ten years now…”
Live Big by Ajit Nawalkha
We need more people to live big. And love big. Society teaches you that it’s stupid to help your fellow man.
Society says:
Don’t give to the homeless, they will use it for alcohol/drugs
The person in front of you at the grocery store had their card decline? That’s their problem. And I wish they would hurry up and get out of the way.
The parent struggling to get their groceries in the car and handle their kids? Well they had them, they knew what they were getting into.
SOCIETY IS WRONG
What if you looked at everything through the other person’s eyes? It’s the smallest things that make the biggest impact sometimes.
What if, when you saw someone asking for money, you gave them something - anything - whatever you have in your pocket. You are right, you can’t guarantee they will use it for good - but that’s on them. Whether you try to help or not - that’s on you, friend.
What if, when the parent is trying to herd their kids into the store, you just held the door and showed a little patience as the smallest ones slowly made their way inside, instead of hurrying out and leaving them to struggle with trying to hold the door and usher everyone inside.
What if you collected the stray trash from the ground as you walked to the trash can and left the parking lot a tiny bit cleaner?
What if you let the car merge into your lane at the last second because you know what it feels like to almost miss your exit off the highway and you want to help them make theirs?
What if more of us decided to LIVE BIG and LOVE BIG. What if we did just a tiny bit more to help out our neighbors, the literal ones and figurative ones. I think it would make a difference. I think YOU could make a difference.
I believe in you.
