Where do you like to shop for books? 📚 If I know what I want and am looking for a bargain, online shopping is great -- but honestly, nothing beats browsing in a brick and mortar bookstore. . . One of my favorite places to browse is @vintagebookshop, which is a #localindie that sells both new & used books. I go there at least once a month for book club -- I just got home from today's meeting! -- and I always inevitably come home with some new finds. It's like treasure hunting, and the treasure is books. . . I love that this Local Indie candle from @novellyyours celebrates these small, community stores. I took this photo inside @vintagebookshop because it is just so cozy & lovely in there. THE RANSOM COLLECTIVE – RANSOM and RANDOM THOUGHTS
As humans we are often stucked in the state of reality, consumed by unlikable perceptions around us resulting to stress, and it's a natural thing to seek serenity from music to help us unwind. We try to open our computers and scroll down on YouTube or Sound Cloud looking for new music, and when we find one, we either put it in our playlist or skip it. Embracing your disappointments of how it was badly written or just the melody, unpleasant to the ears. But then you find that one band that when you clicked play, you surprisingly imagined you're at the top of Mt. Pulag sipping a bottle of your favorite drink, and the next words you uttered are, "Ah, this song could be the soundtrack of my travels." That's how I felt when I listened to ‘Fools', the first official single of The Ransom Collective. It was a stressful day of February yet their music satisfied me.
The indie folk band is composed of six members namely Kian Ransom, Jermaine Choa Peck, Leah Halili, Lily Gonzales, Muriel Gonzales, and Redd Claudio the newest addition to the band. They started creating and mixing beautiful harmonies and melodies on August 2013 and it was Kian who founded the band. They all met in UP Diliman with the help of Hunny lee, the former drummer, at that time Redd wasn't in the band. After a few gigs across the metro, this talented group decided to join Wanderband contest which Wanderland (an annual music festival in the Philippines) organized and they won second place. From then on, they are officially a band and their publicity became dreamlike. Gigs came one after another and fans grew to a greater number.
Each member has different contribution and plays a major role in their band. Kian writes the music and lyrics, Jermaine lights up the mood and keeps the crowd in their highest energy. Leah plays the electric guitar adding liveliness to their songs, Lily uses the keyboard and helps in refining the harmonies, Muriel adds a beautiful twist to their music by playing the violin, and Redd plays the drums and nails it every time. They all have a part in managing their social media accounts as well as their scheduled events.
As of now (May 2016) The Ransom Collective have six songs namely, Fools, Hither, Outro/Remarks, Images, Run, Settled. Their songs are mostly influenced by things teens and young adults go through. Lately, they are featured in Meg Magazine, the latest endorser of a bag and luggage brand, Bratpack, and is MYX spotlight artist for May. This band caught the hearts of many and there’s no stopping them.

"We find refuge in the creation of songs. We don't have a genre in mind. Music is fluid." - Game Theory
A band that originated from the bowels of UP Diliman (and the acclaimed organization UP Music Circle), Game Theory delivers a tasteful offering to the local independent scene with their latest release "Game Over."
With the forgery of lush, diverse sounds such as pop punk and alternative (and a little pinch of metal from here and there), what comes out is a beautiful blend of an intelligently crafted EP which deserves attention and respect in the local indie route.
With impressive guitar work and catchy poppish passages, the EP has quite a dancy mood to it. Could still use a little more tightness in terms of song writing and overall melody though, to rid of some cliche'-ish feel and just so to make the song's meanings more apparent.
The bass lines are quite good too, and has its moments notably the first track A Desperate Kind of Happiness. Guitar work and progression stands out the most and is the most consistent on the whole EP, earning itself some wait-worthy moments especially in tracks Breaking Addictions and Super Collosal.
Super Collosal and A Desperate Kind of Hapiness would be two of my personal favorites in this release.
The EP ends with a soothing electronic remix of the track Game is Over which might be quite too sketchy on the start for many, but would transition to an eargasmic glitchy tune -- definitely the perfect soundtrack while on those long commutes from and back home.
Ah basta... matamis! Worth the try and listen. Cheers!
Verdict: 3.8 out of 5
