Brand im Mecklenburgischen Eisenbahn- und Technikmuseum Schwerin (21.07.2023)

Bei einem verheerenden Feuer im Eisenbahnmuseum Schwerin sind gestern Teile dieses schönen Museums schwer beschädigt und zum Teil vollständig zerstört worden. Die Feuerwehren waren viele Stunden im Einsatz und konnten zumindest teilweise das Übergreifen der Flammen auf andere Gebäude Bereiche verhindern.

Die großen Lokomotiven haben, nach dem was ich gelesen habe, den Brand überstanden.

Das Eisenbahnmuseum in Schwerin befindet sich sehr zentral (direkt am Hauptbahnhof Schwerin) und zeichnete sich neben den beeindruckenden Lokomotiven durch eine sehr liebevoll zusammengestellte Sammlung aller möglichen historischen Eisenbahnutensilien, aus.

Ich bin sehr traurig, dass so viele Jahre ehrenamtliche Arbeit und Einsatz für den Erhalt dieser Technikgeschichte nun zerstört sind.

Das gesamte Ausmaß des Schadens und die Ursache sind derzeit noch nicht bekannt. Das Gebäude darf wohl noch nicht betreten werden. Was ich der Presse bisher habe entnehmen können ist, dass Teile des Dachstuhls, Werkstätten, Catering-Bereich, historische Fernmeldeanlagen und Stellwerkstechnik sowie eine Sammlung von Dokumenten der Eisenbahngeschichte der DR zerstört wurden.

Ich hoffe sehr, dass man dennoch viele Ausstellungstücke retten, restaurieren und wieder aufbauen kann.

Das Museum finanziert sich ausschließlich durch Spenden und Veranstaltungen. Der Wiederaufbau wird deshalb schwierig und das Museum braucht Hilfe. Spenden oder handwerkliche Hilfe für den Wiederaufbau können jetzt sicher helfen.

Ich möchte Euch an dieser Stelle noch ein paar Bilder aus dem Museum zeigen, die ich im Februar dieses Jahres gemacht habe. Dort haben wir einen wunderbaren Tag bei so netten Menschen in diesem Museum verbracht.

Fire at the Mecklenburg Railway and Technology Museum Schwerin (21st of July 2023)

Yesterday, parts of this beautiful museum were severely damaged and in some cases completely destroyed in a devastating fire at the Schwerin Railway Museum. The fire brigades were in action for many hours and were able to at least partially prevent the flames from spreading to other parts of the building.

From what I have read, the large locomotives survived the fire.

The railway museum in Schwerin is very centrally located (directly at Schwerin's main railway station) and, in addition to the impressive locomotives, was distinguished by a very lovingly assembled collection of all kinds of historical railway equipment.

I am very sad that so many years of voluntary work and engagement for the preservation of this technical history have now been destroyed.

The full extent of the damage and the cause are not yet known. It seems that the building may not be entered yet. What I have been able to gather from the press so far is that parts of the roof truss, workshops, catering area, historic telecommunications equipment and signal technology as well as a collection of documents on the railway history of the DR were destroyed.

I very much hope that many exhibits can nevertheless be saved, restored and rebuilt.

The museum is financed exclusively by donations and events. Reconstruction will therefore be difficult and the museum needs help. Donations or manual help for the reconstruction can certainly help now.
