(1) Just how immediately shocked and worried Nami & Zoro both are when finding out that Sanji lost Luffy.
(2) Zoro immediately threatening to hurt Sanji over this.
(3) The way Nami's head immediately whips around to him when he starts this.
(4) Nami being able to stop him just like that when Zoro and Sanji are already squaring up. Zoro doesn't even finish his sentence when she interferes.
(5) How Nami puts her hand on Zoro's shoulder blade to stop him and pulls him back just a bit.
It tells me that Nami & Zoro share a similar protectiveness over Luffy (Romance Dawn trio ftw) and that they already know each other so well. There's just something about the way Nami touches Zoro here and how he reacts to it that I just love. How he keeps staring at Sanji because he's still mad at him but moves back because of Nami. Not that he needed to, her hold isn't strong, but he still does, he listens to her because it's Nami. And she can do that so easily because it's Zoro.
With rushed puffs, you forced a way through the crowd. Desperately running in the opposite direction. Squeezing yourself through the rough townsfolk. Panting out a breath at the sudden release of force from nearly being squashed.
Taking a moment to look for him. You knew he could handle himself, but still you looked with worry. Pirates had claimed the square for entertainment of their own. Two clans battling against each other. You stumbled back when a pirate came landing at your feet. The pirate grinned wickedly at you.
Pressing your heel against his throat, you let him gasp for air before he move a muscle. The pirate squirming under your grip. Trying to force your foot off him. As a response you pushed just that little firmer. Hearing him gurgle on his own breath and saliva.
Thundering roaring high up in the skies made you look up. Gasping loudly at the execution platform. Eyes squinting to get a good look. A rusky clown pushed a young pirate to his knees.
The pirate underneath you was tapping your shoe for release. Blinking rapidly, you removed your foot. He rolled over, gasping for air. Hand to his throat. Having allowed him a few quick breaths, you tensed your face. Kicking at his face.
Pirate falling on his back, seeing stars. Getting back in motion, you couldn’t stop glancing away from the execution platform. The sky rumbling with vengeance. “Luffy!” Got screamed out. Making you turn your head, seeing a red-haired girl stare shockingly up. A tumbling pirate came your way after a blonde guy had kicked him back.
He came spinning before you. With one punch of yours, he stiffened before dropping to the ground. The blonde guy made eye contact with you for a moment. Humming surprised at the sudden assistance. Slightly impressed by your punch. Ignoring him, you began to run once more.
Ducking down when lightning came striking down near the platform. “Dad!” You called out, in search for him. Finding him hiding somewhere to the side. Wanting to run over to him, you stopped midtrack at the sudden laughter. Loud and manically. Catching you off guard for a moment. “Dad!” Calling out again, nearing.
Smoker spun around with wide eyes. “What is she…” Grabbing you firmly by the back of your clothing. “What are you doing here?” Directing his words to you with a glare. “Dad I…” You began, cut off by lightning crashing down. Hitting the execution platform. Making you gasp loud as it caught fire.
Wood breaking down as the whole thing came falling down. You gasped when your father yanked at your clothing. “Go home!” He ordered, pushing you away. You stumbled against some of his men. “Get her out of here!” Smoker ordered, moving his cigars back to his mouth. The men grabbed you each by an arm.
“Dad!” You called out in protest. “This is no place for a girl, Y/n!” Your father said in a dismissive way. Gesturing for you to be removed from his sight. “Dad!” You cried out, feet kicking over the ground. Helplessly being dragged away.
“Sir…” Tashigi began. Smoker removed the two cigars from his mouth. “I didn’t recall asking you a damn thing!” Shouting at her. Tashigi swallowed, lowering her head. Grunting loud, he placed them back in his mouth. Shoving two men aside to make room.
“Let me go!” You called out, fighting back against their restraints. “We have orders, miss.” One of them replied. Knowing they’d force you back, you had to free yourself. Groaning loud, you stomped your heel firm on one of the men’s feet. He bent down, crying it out in pain. His grip on you released as you quickly elbowed the other one.
He stumbled back, hands covering up his nose. Taking the advantage of their pain, you took a run for it. “Wait!” The pained footed one called out. Trying to catch you in a last attempt, but his hand grasped for air. Brushing just past your clothing.
Huffing and puffing, you ran for cover. Knowing they’d run after you. Knowing Loguetown a bit, you used it as your advantage. Darting in alleyways with one goal but to confuse them. Disorientate them, till they couldn’t figure out their north from their west.
Pushing your back against the wall, you took a moment, catching your breath. Muscles contracting at a familiar voice. Eyes wide with shock. “I am Captain Smoker of the Marines.” Swallowing nervously at the voice of your father. Turning slightly to the side, you lowered yourself to a kneeling position.
Peeking around the corner. Blinking confused at the same young pirate from before. Unharmed from the lightning, you thought he was a miracle or just stupidly lucky. The same blonde boy from before was with him. They shared a glance. “Yeah, sorry Smoker but we’re kind of in a hurry.” The straw hat boy said.
Luffy you thought his name was. “I’ve got this.” His friend said with a cheeky smile. Slightly shaking your head, you knew his chances were slim. With wonder you watched as the boy ran up to the walls, pushing himself off to kick down your father.
His foot kicked in smoke, making him lose balance. Dropping to the ground with a roll. “He has a devil fruit!” He called out in a slight panic. Your father slowly took a solid form again. “Doesn’t matter, we take him on.” Luffy said with a smile.
If you weren’t so worried about staying hidden, you would’ve applauded his bravery. With little effort your father knocked them both down. Both of them shared a brief glance. Your father doing nothing but blowing out some smoke from the cigars. Luffy’s face tensed, clenching his fists.
Calling it out as he tackled Smoker with hit after hit. Pushing through smoke, leaving no scratch on him. Confused Luffy stared at his own fists. Rubbing them off his vest. Smoker’s face hidden in smoke from the cigars. Raising his fists, smoke swirled around it.
Clasping a hand over your mouth, you deafened out a squeal. Your father’s fist knocking the poor boy straight through a window shop. “Sanji!” Luffy called out in a panic. Smoker preparing both his hands with smoke. Him being distracted, you removed yourself from your hiding place.
Keeping it low, but run across behind your father to the shattered shop. Worriedly you knelt beside the man. Touching his back gently. Checking for a pulse for you were worried he’d be a goner. Exhaling relieved when there was still a pulse. Carefully turning him around, you moved some hair out of his face.
“I’m sorry…you can’t take him.” Telling him. Hearing commotion from on the streets, you lifted your head up. Pulling yourself, but staying low. Carefully moving towards the open gap of the store. walking over rubble, hoping the sounds wouldn’t be too distracting.
Gasping loud, seeing Luffy down on the ground. Stribbling against your father’s grip on his face. Pressed onto the streets. “Looks like your luck ran out, kid.” Smoker said with a grin. Putting the cigars back between his teeth. Releasing a thick smoke down on Luffy. Gasping loud, you saw him struggle.
Squirm underneath, taking in all the smoke without a say. Clenching your hand, it trembled firm. Pushing yourself up, you ran out of the shop. Picking a wooden plank on your way. Rushing up to your father. Knock the plank against his head without hesitation. Smoke disintegrated. Blinking rapidly before dropping to the side.
Panting loud, you dropped the wood. Clattering against the cobble stones. “Luffy!” You breathed out, falling to your knees. Turning him over to his back, touching his cheeks. “C’mon…c’mon breath.” You let out, pressing your ear against his chest.
Trying to listen in for a heartbeat. Lifting your head back up, you stared at him. Knowing what you had to do. Sanji coughed loud, stepping out of the shop. Eyes widening at a girl near his friend. “Hey!” He called out with a point. Ignoring his call, you apologized before smacking your lips against Luffy.
Parting his lips slightly with yours. Taking a deep breath. Smoke stormed up from his lungs to his throat. Passing through your mouth. Slowly disintegrating when you sucked it out. Inhaling it all out. Holding Luffy firm by his vest to keep your lips locked onto his. His sudden squirming caught you by surprise.
His eyes flashing open. A quick second for his gaze to settle with panic. Shoving you off, kiss breaking off. You fell back as Luffy crawled a bit away. Touching his lips. “Did…did you just kiss me?” He called out. Sanji rushed to his side. “Luffy you okay?” Grabbing him by the shoulder.
“She kissed me!” Luffy said with a firm point at you. Sanji perked his eyebrow up. “I…I…I swear it was only to save your life.” Moving your hands up in defense. Luffy moved a hand to his throat, coughing a few times. Feeling no more smoke in his lungs. “How did you do that? How are you not affected?” Luffy asked afterwards.
Your gaze fell on your father on the ground. Smiling sheepishly. “You ate the same fruit?” Sanji said, confused. You shook your head. “I inherited his devil’s fruit…” You explained to them. Luffy and Sanji stared at Smoker. Eyes widening at the realization. “He’s your dad?” They both called out with a shriek.
Softly you hummed. Rubbing your hands between your thighs, you nervously looked away. “I…I…I’m sorry I kissed you…I had to get the smoke out…” Avoiding their stares. “Nah, don’t worry about it.” Luffy answered with a wave of his hand. “I’d be a smoker's toast if it wasn’t for you.” He laughed out.
Bashfully you smiled back. Sanji offered his help to get up. Sighing loud, you looked at your dad, still knocked out. “I’d better look after him.” You said, kneeling down to move his arm around you. Putting some of his weight on your back.
“You sure you’d be alright?” Sanji asked, helping you a bit. “Yeah.” You answered, slightly bent because of your dad’s weight on your back. Your eyes widened for a moment when Luffy neared you. “I shan’t forget this.” Holding a hand out, moving it to his head, scratching his hair for you had no hand free to hake.
Brushing it off with a chuckle, he gave you a pat on your head. “Y/n.” You introduced yourself. “Take care of yourself Y/n.” Sanji said with a bow of his head. You nodded as a goodbye, watching Luffy and Sanji head in the other direction.
Luffy turned around in his walk, waving his straw hat in the air for you. Grinning sheepishly from ear to ear. Sanji nudged him in the elbow. Whispering to him. Luffy ignored it, lowering himself to a bow for you. Nearly tripping over a cobble stone, making you snort loud. “See you on the big blue, Y/n!” Luffy called out.
“I’m coming for that bounty of yours!” You called out with a teasing smile. “Can’t wait!” Luffy shouted back. Stumbling over his feet when Sanji had grabbed him by his collar, turning him back to the front. Smiling, you pulled your father better over your shoulder, helping him back to the base.
