Flufftober - Day 20

20 - Secret Crush

Pairing: Loki x gn!reader

Word count: 600

A/N: Stay with me and ponder the question... What bet did Loki loose to thor in order to become DB Cooper? This was not the turn I thought this drabble would take.

Written for @flufftober2021 's event.

It’s stupid, really.

It’s not that big of a crush. It’s just like a bump in the road. He sees you, you smile at him, and he loses control over his legs. He’s not in love, he's just… unfocused.

It’s hard to tell whether he’s just bored or not, or if you just need to stay away from him for your own good because —in case he's actually in love— it would be terrible.

Loki doesn't love, love is for the weak, love is for those who already had it and he doesn't know how it actually feels and doesn't plan on knowing.

Its just a stupid crush, and your body just makes him extremely aroused. That's all. Carnal. Physical attraction that he can completely ignore…

"Loki!", and his heart skipped a beat, pumping out of his chest, so hard he thinks he might faint. It's definitely not love, right?

"Yes, darling?" Oh darling! He dared calling you a pet name. What an absolute idiot. Now you will know how he feels and you'll be repulsed. You’ll hate him forever, he’s sure.

But it’s just a stupid crush ona stupid midgardian because he’s stupid enough to fall for the trap his brother set him up to.

"I need a partner for the party. Do you plan on going? And if so, would you like to go with me?".

Loki is definitely not in love with you, but with those simple words, you had him melted on your hands, wiggling his imaginary tail.

"Are you sure? Wouldn't you want to go with… let's say, someone better?", he suggested. He knows he’s better than most on the dance floor, but he can’t afford going to the damned party with you —not with the implication of a partner. He would lose the bet.

Stupid crush.

"Who's better than you?".

"Probably anyone".

"Don't be silly. I want you".

Were you aware of what you were doing to him?

His brother had made a bet. And he obliged. He said, quite specifically when Loki arrived at the compound, “you’ll fall for that one. You’re basically soulmates. I always thought of you when being with them”.

Loki does not believe in soulmates. Neither did he think he’d ever fall for a Midgardian, someone his brother appreciated; not even when you greeted him so kindly and made his floor tremble almost instantly.

He does not believe in soulmates yet he realized he had a deeper connection with you, when you could so easily talk about every book in the library with him —and people around him had always been so repelled by literature—. He does not believe in true love, not even when your eyes shone like a thousand stars when he showed you magic for the first time.

So, of course, his reply to his brother was “try me. Let’s bet”.

“If you fall for that one, you’ll… you’ll have to prove just how much of a trickster you are”.

“Pray tell, for example?”.

“Hijack a plane, get money… something crazy, I don’t know, brother”, said Thor, and Loki laughed at the incongruency of that. Wasn’t he a so-called hero?

Maybe he should go with you. He had already lost the bet.

"I would love to go with you. Beware of my dancing skills".

"Oh, I think I might need some dance lessons from you", you winked.

That's it. He's sure.

It's definitely love.

okay but just imagine how loki and thor came up with that bet

•  loki daring thor to steal odin’s eyepatch 

•  thor, at first saying no, but then deciding and boasting that he definitely could steal and return odin’s eyepatch faster and without getting caught

•  loki, so sure of the fact that he could do it even better, bets that if he does, thor has to do something of his choosing

•  thor, now convinced that he needs to win

•  heimdall silently watching this exchange and rolling his eyes, knowing that it won’t go well

•  thor and loki staying up late together one night with thor running to odin’s study and grabbing his eyepatch off his sleeping body, running back to show loki, and successfully returning it to odin without him waking up

•  loki, unfazed, going to steal odin’s eyepatch and showing thor

•  loki, about to use his magic on the way back to transport and do it quicker than thor, but right as he is about to do it, he runs into frigga in the hallway, out on a night walk

•  frigga snatching the eyepatch from him, scolding loki and telling him he is lucky he wasn’t caught by his father

•  loki, trying to pin the blame on thor but frigga tolerating none of it

•  loki, attempting to sneak back to his own room to avoid thor

•  thor, aware of loki’s tricks, already waiting for him in his room

•  thor now daring loki to cause a scene on a midgardian, with both of them coming up with an elaborate plan for loki to board a midgardian airplane and convince the flight attendants to give him money

•  heimdall initially refusing to participate, but then agreeing after acknowledging it would be humorous to see loki look like a midgardian

•  loki, annoyed by how he lost to thor but never one to turn down mischief

•  thor and heimdall laughing at loki’s disguised appearance of short hair, a midgardian suit, and sunglasses

•  loki continiously touching the back of his neck, not used to having no hair there but impressed with his own disguise

•  thor and heimdall watching from above as loki slips the flight attendant a note and succeeds in getting the money

•  loki, feeling accomplished, landing back on asgard 

•  frigga, seeing him in his disguise and refusing to ask what he was doing but warns them to not let odin find out, smiling at her sons

•  loki, thor, and heimdall all laughing and reveling in loki’s mischief on midgard
