Ok, so here it goes! I’m worried it is too exhaustive or repetitive and I’m not sure if some of the expressions make sense in this part…
Cheerful voices and inflated pleasantries faded into background noises on the royal hallways. Those brainless nobles never failed to rail him up, so dull and obtuse. He left the council room as soon as he could, striding down the hall fast enough to avoid meeting anyone on his way to the library.
His hasty pace slowed all of the sudden when he heard it. The sound that filled his mind on every sleepless night. Loki shook his head trying to get it out but it wouldn’t disappear, instead it sounded louder, closer. Nice, now he was losing his mind, he thought. He couldn’t help but follow the source of that laugh, untamed and pure like a fresh stream, wiping out any other noise around.
Since they were just kids he would do anything, no matter how stupid or risky, just hear that laugh. It was the most pleasant sound on the Nine realms. Capable of making him feel the most powerful man when he was the one to summon it. And if his sanity was the price to pay, he would gladly give it away this time. So he peeked through every balcony until his feet came to an halt, his heart along with them.
There she was, down on the training ground, looking beautiful as ever. Any memory in his head or illusion he had projected didn’t do justice to the tangible image displaying before his eager eyes. Chocolate long mane flowing wild as she sparred with another woman, and that golden glow of her skin under the noon sun, making her even more ethereal. She looked thinner than he remembered, but the perfect curves remained in place. Her movements graceful and deathly. His hands were sweating against the banister, pressing so hard it could break the metal rod. He couldn’t blink, afraid of missing a second of that precious, vivid hallucination.
A big hand on his shoulder took him back to reality. He hadn’t heard his brother’s loud steps approaching him, leave it be the time he had spent behind him in silence, not wanting to disturb.
“Brother..” Thor’s voice was hushed and tentative, his features laced in concern. The dark prince turned around reluctant, trying to steel his expression as good as he could before meeting his brother’s gaze, waiting for him to explain the cause of the interruption. The older one pondered carefully his words while assessing his brothers face.
“I’ve been looking for you after the council to tell you first.” He tilted his head in the balcony’s direction. Thor knew it wasn’t going to be easy for him and had wanted to test the waters first, but it seemed to be too late. Loki returned his sight to the quad warily just to prove that she was still there. Breath caught on his throat, his stern face staggering. He should be relieved it wasn’t a trick of his mutilated mind, instead a new kind of fear bloomed on his chest. It took a moment for him to find the words and then another for them to leave his tongue.
“What is she doing here?” He didn’t dare to said her name aloud. It was painful enough to repeat it like a prayer in the dark for the last seven decades.
“Mother made her come back. It’s the only thing I know, she has not given me any more details.” He lowered his head a bit, almost apologizing. “She might join us tonight for dinner and perhaps we get to know more.” Loki swallowed and nodded once, keeping the same impassive exterior while his heart threatened to leave his chest. He pushed a tight smile just before leave towards his chambers, not saying a word.
Thor stayed there, now being him who watched the scene from above. His lips curled into a fond smile seeing both women together again.
Of course there’s no pressure and please feel free to say whatever that comes to your mind. And thank you again for doing this, means a lot to me 💜💜💜
I loved it!! There’s absolutely no need to be insecure about this snippet it’s so suspenseful and really makes me want to read more!!
