You know what hurts the most? There was no sign of an ‘I love you’ in the entire duration of Aaron and Robert’s wedding day because words weren’t needed; it was all in the signals, the expressions, the eye contact, the body language, the kisses, the smiles and the swaying, they didn’t even need to vocalise the depths of their eternal love because they sensed it but right there, in a predicament that can’t be changed or reversed or halted to a pause, in a place they celebrated their newly wed status only 24 hours before, they fell into a desperate embrace feeling so heavy and broken and beaten and frightened.
In that moment, as they breathed each other in for the last time, that was when it was necessary. This was the final chance to say everything they needed to say and it so happened to be those three little words.‘I love you’ - because that’s it, it’s that simple, that’s the be all and end all. They love each other so dearly and that’s enough to grip them together but it’s also enough to make the whole situation even harder to endorse because for the first time since the day they reunited that love isn’t enough to shelter them from the storm when they’re so out of reach and control. They don’t know how long it will be before they can share this again so they treasure and utilise and linger towards every last second.
