Guys. GUYS GUYS GUYS. You’re never gonna believe this.

I finished a novel.

It’s been TWELVE YEARS since I finished writing an original novel, no matter how many starts I wrote. It’s been THREE YEARS since I finished any fanfiction.

But just in the month of February, zooming every night with my sister and writing in 25- or 50-minute bursts, I started and finished an 85k original novel.

Quarantine haircut flopped I am the first to admit I am the most impatient person I know but to give myself a haircut and royally f@$& it up well that brings me to a new low. Lady Luck and her dastardly companion, Kite in the Wind, were getting a little to famous throughout Sword Coast for their liking. They prefer the freedom of being inconspicuous, rather than the notoriety of giant-slaying heroes. And they also, sort of, kind of, murdered someone. Using some dye and a bracelet of disguise self the two changed their appearances and ditched town. Lady Luck's new story is that she's a merchant daughter fleeing an arranged marriage, and her name is Lucky Quartz (in case Kite messes up and calls her Luck on accident). The best lies are those close to the truth.

This clever mink ranger and her doggy companion are on the hunt. I got to play with a plethora of different techniques and new brushes in this piece (particularly with the fur), and I really appreciated the chance to explore creating a background/setting for the character. In hindsight I would have allowed myself to be a little more free and broad with the "brush" strokes for the background. I just get so caught up in the tiny details and textures. Character doesn't belong to me.
