hi! I am new here and I LOVE this fresh comic page post… please, sir, may I have some more?
(but for real, do you have any lore dump or narrative posts for either your dragon or leviathan worlds? I spent like two hours last night scrolling through some of the characters tags, and I Desire More!) regardless, you are a very highly skilled individual, pls accept my compliments! thanks
I actually have worldbuilding tags where I put all my lore shares, and all relevant posts to said worlds! Though these days I don't talk as much about lore unless people ask ^^; My tag for my dragon world, Broken Horizon, is up to date on lore!
The one for my leviathan world, Challenger Deep (Title change pending), is currently outdated as I have been reworking on the story behind the scenes for about two years now.
So I'll go ahead and share some info here now that I've got something solid:
Challenger deep (Title change pending still because I haven't decided on something new that I truly like) is my leviathan headworld.
The world they live in, Asedia, is an ocean planet. around 99% of it is covered in water or ice, and the land is sparse and consists of mostly archipelagos. It's inhabited for the most part by two major species:
On one hand, Merfolk: people who are amphibious humanoid fish creatures, which can range from being fully anthro fish to more humanoid-looking individuals. They have a broad range of appearances, adaptations, and sizes. They inhabit the little land there is on the planet, as well as floating settlements they build.
On the other hand, Leviathans: massive ocean creatures that inhabit open waters. They are often animalistic, though some can be highly intelligent. They have a very broad range of sizes but are generally categorized into four classes: cutter class (the smallest, this is as big as a creature has to be to count as a leviathan.), frigate class, galleon class, and freighter class (this is the upper end of the size range, with fairly few recorded individuals across history.)
Then there are Shifters: merfolk who have the ability to turn into leviathans. Currently, how people feel about them is a bit up in the air in my lore. In general, they are feared by most, so they tend to keep themselves a secret unless they know they'll be accepted (or unless they're strong enough to fend themselves from being hunted).
The rest of the fauna on the planet is majorly amphibious creatures and avian animals, seabirds and the like.
Some merfolk are Leviathan Hunters, and hunt the creatures for their resources (or if a leviathan has caused a settlement repeated trouble). Even though hunters are all incredibly skilled, this has a high risk of injury and even death.
There are three different types of hunting strategies and techniques: surface hunts, vessel hunts, and depth hunts.
Surface hunts are where the leviathans are surface dwellers, and merfolk will climb on them to attack directly while on the surface. All they need is a vessel to get them close, and they can take it from there.
Vessel hunts are where a hunting ship or more is involved, they use large crews, mounted weaponry (harpoons, depth charges and the like) to hunt a leviathan. Few if none at all from the crew would leave the vessel in this case.
Depth hunts are hunts that take place in the deepest, darker parts of the ocean where there is no light and the pressure is suffocating. They are the hardest hunts, as the leviathans from the deep do not need to see in order to attack, and most merfolk rely on their eyesight for fighting
The main characters in this world are as follows:
Talas (seen in my latest comic), a freighter-class shifter with a leviathan form known as the Worldeater, posing as a regular hunter to make a living and keep other hunters off his back (through deceit or death, anything works for him. He is not a good person).
Graves (also seen in my previous comic), a cutter-class shifter with a massive grudge against Talas for the death of her previous mentor, Brahm. Due to circumstances, she ends up being mentored by Talas.
Hades, a galleon-class publicly known shifter outlaw, and captain to the crew of the Burning Moon. Talas and Graves have beef with him at first, but they eventually become a part of his crew. He's also not a great or very stable person.
Connon, Caval, and Gobi are the remaining crew members of the outlaw ship. They are regular merfolk but no less threatening than their captain.
Oh yeah, and there's Regios too. He's a demon from the deep :) nothing to worry about at all.
I will be making an updated map of the world at some point I justttttt have been putting it off for forever but maybe now ill get to it siince my story is more solid <3
That's the general gist of it though. I need to post updated design refs for pretty much everyone mentioned minus for gobi who i posted recently. And talas + graves who you can see in the latest comic.
