Lew Dolegan was both one of the many pen names of author Louis Fournel and the name of the series’ hero, a British private eye. This paperback is actually a rebinding of two separate novellas.
I bought this one at a second hand bookstore right next to my high school ca 1982-1983, when I was 15 and heavily getting into P.I. fiction. The place was located in an old building, I remember it felt vaguely insanitary, the books and comics were dumped in piles on a few scattered tables and in cardboard boxes on the stone floor, but it was some kind of heaven.
I had a lot of fun reading those stories–they were not great by any means, but moved at a nice pace, in a Peter Cheyney way–and have managed to find a few other issues over the years.

Louis FOURNEL was Chief of Police before he began to write popular literature of any kind. He wrote really interesting crime novels, as well Whodunits as Hard Boiled or any other sous-genre (he had a lot of pen-names). For his Paterson & Jurry serial, you’ll get the impression that Fournel’s inspiration could be in relation with an abuse of anise-flavoured drinks...
