Columbia-born, Los Angeles-based Loyal Lobos makes us loyal fans of the singer songwriter’s craft on Criminals, executive produced by Teddy Geiger and out now. Criminals is an earnest folk-tinged hymnal that examines a type of affection that is often undeservedly left in the dust, overwhelmed by all the epic love tales that embody most artists’ music. Andrea Silva of Loyal Lobos says the track is “a love song to a friend. A platonic friendship with many undertones. It’s about danger, fun, love, sadness, and sisterhood. The complexities of a woman and a friendship between two. It is my song to Sam.” As someone who has always placed friends as a loving priority, I find this song a fitting personal anthem, with its mellifluous, windswept sincerity reminiscent of artists like Lucy Dacus, Julien Baker, and Phoebe Bridgers. Loyal Lobos is in the midst of a series of live dates, including a stop at Slim’s in San Francisco this Wednesday night, September 18th. Criminals can be streamed or downloaded, here.
