one thing i adore about fandom is the “[bad parent]’s A+ parenting” tag on ao3. it’s so universal and so sarcastic and it makes me giggle every time i see it

rewatching 7x05 and i just. when buck comes out and eddie says "this doesn't change anything between us," it's so clear from buck's face that his feelings are a mixture of weirdhurtconfusion and not the relief he should be feeling about finally coming out to his best friend. but ultimately it reinforces what he's known about eddie for as long as they've known each other: eddie is straight. buck coming out doesn't change anything for eddie because eddie's sexuality won't fluctuate on the basis of buck's attraction to men. eddie's straight; buck's sexuality won't change that.
meanwhile, eddie's seeing it as, oh my best friend just came out to me and i want to show him that i love and support him unconditionally, and he's going through his own weirdhurtconfused feelings, so he says the first thing that pops into his head (which unintentionally sounds like i just want to be friends). so. now there's a distinction. eddie isn't buck's best friend; he's buck's straight best friend. and it's not like he particularly cares about being assigned that unspoken label, but also, it's literally not even unspoken. both eddie and buck make a concerted effort to call eddie straight the entirety of s8, which isn't something they cared to do before buck came out.
so eddie's perspective isn't i'm straight as much as it is i have to be straight, because buck isn't, and he knows what it's like to love a man, so he knows the difference, and he isn't different with me. what i'm feeling for buck has to be normal, because buck is with another man. if it wasn't normal, he would be with me.
and so it's a cycle. to buck, eddie's straight, so there's no reason to be in love with him. but to eddie, buck isn't in love with him, so there's no reason for him not to be straight.
s4 really is crazy because it’s like. siren episode. dean and sam are forced magically to say their deepest darkest worst thoughts about each other. dean’s is that he’s worried that the demon blood is going to turn sam into a monster and he feels like he can’t trust sam anymore. and then sam’s is mocking dean for opening up to him about hell and calling him weak?
It pisses me off when girls see an argument between transfeminist groups and go "nooo we should be nice to each other this will just invite harassment!!! 🥺" like it genuinely makes me want to pop an artery.
It's a very white gringo perspective to me first of all, because it puts politeness and personal comfort above everything else. Like, transfeminism isn't a friendship game, we aren't going to solve transmisogyny by holding hands and singing merry songs!
Solidarity in a struggle isn't the same thing as being cordial to each other; that's an extremely idealist perspective to have, especially when the discourse is about racism or swerfism or what have you!
Of course I say all this because from my perspective it's often the more well-off girls saying this shit. And it's no surprise that it's often directed at twoc whenever we point out yank behavior in our community.
*Everyone* knows that tmes love using "the white trans woman" as a cudgel against transfeminism and *everyone* knows how that affects twoc the most. However it seems that the general consensus on this is that we should just Shut Up whenever we experience racism from our own sisters, because what if the white girl gets harassed!!!
As if the white girl isn't *already* being harassed??? As if twoc aren't getting harassed twice as much?!?! "But it'll give them ammunition" our entire existence is *already* ammunition, girl! be fucking serious!
he would have died for this guys.....
artfight heard i was gonna come back this year and then proceeded to double down on perhaps the stupidest most unenforceable rule imaginable
and yes sure it being unenforceable means it’s unlikely to get anyone’s work taken down, but i think it’s just setting a really unfortunate precedent and feeding a really troubling neurosis a lot of young artists seem to have about references/tracing/whathaveyou. 3D models, photos from stock+reference accounts, photos you take yourself (!!!!!) are all completely fucking natural and normal things to use as references, or even god forbid, to trace over. i personally think it’s a good habit to not Only trace only because it makes for a stiff pose, but rules like this will entirely scare people off from even trying those. ugh!
