“Don’t look now but here comes Yangyang!” Your best friend squeals. Smacking your bicep as he comes closer to taking a seat that’s right next to you. No matter how many times you sit next to him in class, you can never get used to it. You hate but also love how fluttered you feel when he’s near you. He doesn’t even have to say a word and you’re already a sweaty mess.
“Hey” he nods his head. An immediate smile brightens on your face. What a loser. A smaller voice sang in your head but you couldn’t care. Sitting up, you tried to contain the giddiness inside you and cleared your throat. “Hello Yangyang.” “Hi Yangyang!” Your best friend said loudly. Hand waving at him as he snorts and does the same. In your head, you were running a billion scenarios to think what you could choose. You wanted to start a conversation with him but no matter how many you came up with, you still couldn’t get the courage to open your mouth. And before you can finally make a decision, the teacher walked in. Great.
Throughout the class, you tried hard to not look at Yangyang. Even when he was seen as one of the popular boys a school, a jock and a jokester. You still admired how concentrated he was on getting his work done. He had all A’s and was the top of most of classes. Something you wished you were. You never could grasp the concept of most things which had you behind the class. Sometimes you had to take notes on things you’re not even required to. Studying harder than most and if it gets that bad, tutored. You try, you really do. It all got worse when you’re parents started getting on your ass about it. When you came home with your first D, they were disgusted by your low grade and haven’t gone easy on you since. They expect you to get all A’s and B’s. Heck, even when you do get B’s they still talk down on you. Wondering why settle for B when you could’ve gone above and beyond and got an A.
It’s why you don’t tell them anything. Not even your achievements because they’ll still find a way to talk bad. They’re never happy with what you do. And in ways, you feel like you owe them. They went to college and got great grades. Now one is a nurse and the other is a businessman. They got you everything you wanted and needed so you felt this immense pressure to make your parents proud. But how can you? Especially now with this boy you’ve crushed on for over 11 years who’s a reason why you can’t even write down proper notes.
You’ve known Lui Yangyang since the first grade. And immediately he became the funny kid everyone loved. Even the teachers in the grades above would call dibs to have him in their class. His adorable smile could cure anyone’s sadness. He’s very lovable and even though it’s been 11 years you still can’t get a sentence out to him. You weren’t close with him which is a bummer. But how can you? He’s a popular kid, where everyone who’s more well known and liked around the school would be crowding him. Your own best friend is more popular than you. She’s just as charismatic and outgoing like him. Her name is out there and you’re just a kid who people know but don’t actually know you.
When the bell rang, Yangyang grabbed his stuff and waved at you. “See ya y/n” Your small voice was overpowered by your best friend who told him goodbye. “Yeah…bye” you whisper.
————
“Just talk to him y/n”
“Easier said than done. I mean look at you then me. You’re more talkative. It’s easy for you to make friends and me well, I’m just…awkward.”
“Well then stop being awkward.” Huffing, I shake my head and continue eating my lunch.
“Like I said, easier said than done.”
“Hey.” You hear the familiar voice say behind you. Turning, which almost had your neck snapped. You look up at the boy standing behind you. “Yang!” You hear your friend shout. “How are you? What brings you hear?” “Oh nothing, just came to say sup.” He smiles at her before looking down to meet your eyes. “Oh well uh…sup” You tell him. He laughs and nods. “Alright bye!” “Bye!” You and your friend waves as you see him walk back to his table. His friends immediately making space for him as the other popular kids (and followers), crowd around them again. “See that wasn’t so difficult right?” Gulping, you shrug. “Not at all” you say sarcastically. Feeling a shove from her as she giggles. “Oh you’re one of a kind y/n.”
______
“C’mon Mark!” One of the girls on the bleachers yelled. The team were currently practice, yells from the coach was heard while the loud clash of the stick gets shoved harshly onto the ice. “Guess we’re not the only fan girls in here huh?” Your best friend wiggles her brows at you. “Why are we here?” She sighs and looks back at you. “Look, you need to stop being so shy. It’s been 11 years and you still haven’t tried to at least befriend him. That’s got to stop which is why I brought you here to make a change.” Whining in protest, she glared at you and drags you over to the bleachers and has you take a seat. For the remainder of the practice a few more people have come inside to watch them play. Once it was over a few of them went to the lockers while others walked up to their ‘fans’. Your eyes begin to widen when you see Yangyang start to walk closer to you and your friend. “Okay it’s getting late we better get going-“ “Not so fast.” She says gripping your wrist and sitting you back down.
“Hi girls. What a nice surprise. Why the sudden visit?” He says, helmet in his hand and leans a leg on the seat. “Eh just wanted to see what was the fuss about. Hear people like watching you guys play.” Your friends talks for you. You currently in your spot trying to keep it cool. “Oh yeah? And what did you think?” “You’re alright.” She shrugs. Elbowing you to speak but you shake your head. Yangyang laughs and nods. “And you y/n? Did you like the practice?” “Oh um, yeah. Think so.” “You think so?” “Well I-I don’t really know anything about the game. I was kinda…dragged to watch. Haha.” ‘What an idiot’ you tell yourself. ‘Now he’s going to think I’m totally not interested in him nor what he’s loves to do’
“Yeah would you like to learn all about the sport?”
Eyes wide, you look between him and your best friend. Silently asking her what to do. But she wasn’t much help, she was too focused on Yangyang and why he was wearing to notice what he even asked.
“Y-Yes?” He laughs and nods. “Alright. We should plan what day. But I got to go, I feel stinky in this gear. See ya girls!” “Bye!” She waves. “Bye.” You say silently. “See that wasn’t so bad!” “Yeah guess not.” This time you weren’t sarcastic. Looking at his leaving figure go through the metal doors that leads into the locker rooms.
The next day, your class period came around and this time you were much more excited to enter. Taking your seat, a minute later entered the boy you’ve been swooning over for years. “Hi Yangyang.” You say this time. Something you’ve never done. It not only shocked him but you too. “Well hello y/n. Nice to have you welcoming me for a change.” Blushing, you look away and see your best friend eyeing you two. A tight smile she throws at you before looking down at her notebook. “You ready?” “For what?” You tell him puzzled. “To learn all about hockey.” “Oh! Oh that’s today?” “Want it to be some other day?” “No! Today’s good.” “Great” Before you can answer him anything, your best friend has already leaned over. “And I’ll be there, wouldn’t want to miss it.” She tells him, smirking at you. “Okay good! See you two after school. I don’t have practice so it will only be us three.” Nodding, you felt the familiar sweaty palms begin to form.
As the time went by you began to grow more and more anxious. It was already your last period and only had about five minutes left of class. Your leg was bouncing like crazy and you couldn’t stop thinking about all the possible outcomes being in the stadium will have. What if things go bad? Or maybe good? No it’s me I never have good luck. Or maybe today’s the day that changes? When the bell finally rang, you were out the classroom. You didn’t know where to meet him or if he should find you. Maybe you needed to go to the stadium. It’s a good two blocks away from the school so that means you’ll have to find your best friend first to get there -
“Y/n! Over here!” Looking up front. You see your best friend with Yangyang. Walking towards you. “I was just about to look for you.” You tell her. “Oh well Yangyang here is in the classroom next to mine and his classes got out a few minutes early so he waited for me.” She says, smiling up at him. “Oh okay well that’s good.” “Shall we get going then?” “Yeah let’s go.” You say shyly. Going into your friends car and following Yangyang. It didn’t take long to arrive and before you knew it, you were already back inside the stadium that you visited yesterday.
“You guys should wear these.” Bringing up the skates you shake your head and try to push them back to his chest. “I c-can’t.” “Give me” your friend grabs them. “Why?” He raises a brow. “I can’t skate.” “Not even on ice?” “Not even if I had a parachute and was told I’d be given a million dollars.” He snorts and shakes his head. “I’ll teach you” “Then teach me too!” Your friend interjects. “I can’t skate either.” You were a bit confused on that. Your best friend was an expert on ice skating. Best of the best she was even an ice skater once but quit because it no longer ‘suited’ her. “I thought-“ leaning into your ear, she whispers. “I’m just helping you out. Don’t want to be too awkward around him right?” Nodding slowly, she smiles and looks at him. “Shall you get to teaching?” Nodding, he leads the way to the ring.
You wobbled like crazy and was currently holding the bar for real life. Yangyang couldn’t stop laughing, seeing your lower body slide down more and more. “Here let me help.” Wrapping your arm around his head as he grabs your waist to pull you up. Breath hitching since you’ve never been this close to him. Like ever. “Now move slowly one by one okay?” Following his step, each time he took one back, you took one forward. You still wobbled which had you frantic and only grip on him tighter. He chuckles and continues to help you move. “Think you can start sliding along the ice?” “Sliding?” “Yeah like moving regularly against the ice.” “I-I don’t know. I mean I can barely-“ “Yang! A little help here?” Y/bsf/n yells from her spot. He looks at you then back at her. “You think you’re gonna be okay?” Gulping, you nod slowly.
“Alright, if you need me just call my name alright?” “Yeah.” Letting go slowly, you tried to keep balance as he skates away. For a good hour there wasn’t much talk about how the game works. Yangyang was a bit busy trying to get you two to not fall on your ass. But it seemed like he focused more on y/bsf/n than you. Anytime he came to you, he was called away a minute or two later when she calls for him. You tried to not get your mood brought down. I mean she is your best friend. And if wasn’t for her, you wouldn’t be here right now. The most you’ve ever conversed with your crush. You’ve got to give it her and whatever she’s trying to do, you got to trust her judgment. “So how does the sport works again?” You ask him. Gasping a bit when you felt yourself slide a bit. He laughs at your frantic expression and moves over to you easily and smoothly. Circling around you like he’s done it for years. “Well it’s simple. First you need to have a team of six. But we have seven which isn’t that much of a big deal since it’s just one more member. Anyways the objective of the game is-“ “to score a puck into the net yeah.” I tell him. Moving slowly along the ice. “Yeah duh but what I mean is-“ “Yangyang! Look!” Both looking over to y/bsf/n, where she was now skating on the ice like how she always had. A natural doing what she knows best. You weren’t shocked since well you know that she was faking not knowing how to skate but Yangyang, the boy looked like he just birthed a deer and is now taught how to walk.
“That’s great, look at you!” Skating right past you as he joins her and they begin to skate around together. You stuck in the middle still only barely gliding. Sighing, you go back to try to move forward softly without falling.
“Where have you’ve been young lady?” My mother’s voice boomed the second I entered the house.
“I went to the stadium with y/bsf/n, we learned how to ice skate.” “Ice skate? What are you pursuing in that now?” “No-“ “Then why are you wasting time on that? You should be studying!” “I’m sorry, I’m going to get to that now.” Huffing, she walks back into the kitchen. The smell of food being cooked hitting your nostrils. Dad should be here anytime now. When entering your room, you settle your stuff down and sigh.
“What a tiresome day.”
You groan when you force yourself to sit up and start working on your homework. An hour go by and you still in bed, hand in hair as you try to keep it all together. You just couldn’t get through your head. How on earth can you finish the homework assignment if you can’t even comprehend it? Man you wish you had Yangyang’s brain so you can get the work done with. Speaking of Yangyang, the memory of you with him today made you smile. And before you knew it, the homework was left undone. The last few minutes was spent you daydreaming about him then later your name was called to eat dinner. The dinner didn’t go so well because it was the same old routine. Sitting down and have to heat your parents pester you about your grades. “You need to get a tutor y/n” your mother tells you. “Why? I’m doing good, I only need to lift my one D and then I’ll be fine.” “It’s not fine! Most of your grades are B’s and C’s. You have no A’s and now you have a D? I’m very disappointed in you y/n.” You father tells you seriously. You sigh and look down at your food on shame. “You’re getting a tutor and tomorrow you better come back with you saying that you have one.”“Fine. I’ll ask the school to find me one but if there’s no more smart kids left then you have to leave it up to me to be able to raise my grade.” “Fine.”
______
The next day you told y/bsf/n about it and have you a sympathetic smile. “They’re still on about that?” You nod sadly and fiddle with your sleeve. “Now I have to find a tutor. How can I do that when it’s close to the end of the second semester?” “Yeah that will be hard to find. But I’m sure there’s someone still out there willing to help you out.” “Yeah…” “Oh! Did you hear?” “Hear what?” “Well I heard from someone in the debate team that Saerom and Haechan are dating.” “Oh really? That’s good that he’s out dating.” “Yeah but I don’t think he’s going to be the only one.” “What do you mean?” She sighs and looks down, “Yesterday after we went home. Yangyang had gone on a date with someone from his Geology class.” “Oh…” “I’m sorry -“ “No don’t be. Guess it wasn’t meant to be” you shrug your shoulders. Trying to keep yourself cool and collected. “Look classes are about to start, are you okay?” “Yeah I’m okay don’t worry! I better get going then.” Nodding, she lets you off without another word. Were you a fool for thinking he would actually like you sometime? Return your feelings? Maybe so.
When your period with Yangyang came around. You sat down in silence. When he enters he furrows your brow when you don’t even bat an eye at him. “No hi or hello?” You look at him and give him a tight smile. “Hey” you say in a whisper. Taking his seat, he turns to you. “You okay? Did the ice tire you out? Was it too much for your legs?” You shake your head and breath out. “No I’m quite alright. I’m just…worried.” “Worried?” “Yeah my uh, mother wants me to find a tutor and I think it’s too late for that. So yeah.” “What do you need to be tutored on?” “This class.” “Oh well I can tutor you.” “Really?” Y/bsf/n who was eavesdropping on the conversation looks over, “really?” She too says. He laughs softly and shrugs. “Why not, I got an A in this class and the topics are easy for me. I won’t mind.” “Yeah but you’re so busy. I mean with practice and…dates.” Quirking a brow, he wonders to what you mean, “Oh! Haha no! Me and dates? Psh. Haven’t had a real date in forever. Yesterday I just accompanied a friend. She’s been trying to make Haechan notice her. They’re kinda in some complicated terms at the moment.” “Oh!…oh.” You try to cover up the excitement. Not seeing your friend who was leaned back and glancing between you and Yangyang. A grimace that over time began to form more and more.
“So when would you like me to start with your sessions.” “Maybe Monday? I know you got that game today.” “Oh you do! I totally forgot.” You jump back a bit at her sudden burst. “Yeah, we got a few warm ups to do after school before the game starts. Will you two be attending? Would be nice to have someone cheer me on.” “Oh please you don’t need us to cheer you on! You have like a hundred fans maybe even more.” Y/bsf/n tells him as he shoves his bicep jokingly. He grins and nods. “But we’ll be there.” She finishes off. “Great.” “Okay class, eyes up front.” Giving Yangyang one last look before the two of you looked in front of you.
“Did you get that tutor I asked for you?” “Thought you would be at the hospital by now mom.” “Don’t change the subject on me missy.” “Yes mom, I did. He’s going to tutor me on Monday.” “He?” “Yes he’s a boy I sit next to in my class and he was nice enough to take more time out of his to help me raise my grade.” “Alright but you two better not-“ “Mom!” “I’m just saying!” “Anyways, today there’s this game. He’s uh in the team playing and he wanted me to attend-“ “You wanna waste more time on pointless activities?” “Please it’s a way to thank him for taking the time out of his day to tutor me.” With a final huff, she shrugs her shoulders. “Fine but you got to ask your father first before you go.” “Thank you!” You tell her as you kiss her cheek. “Yeah yeah but you better pay attention to him when he’s tutoring you!” “I will!” I tell while going up the stairs.
Arriving at the stadium. You kept looking down at your phone. Y/bsf/n said she would be getting there anytime soon but you haven’t heard from her in over thirty minutes. The game was about to start soon. Finding a spot to sit, the man behind the glass screen began to speak. Introducing the teams who were to be going up against one another. The crowd started to roar as they clapped for the teams. “Hey! Sorry for being late.” She says. Sounding a bit out of breath. “Oh it’s okay, traffic?” “You can say so.” She says and takes a seat next to you. Fixing her hair that was a bit messy. “Coming for their next win fourth time in a row, Nct U!” Cheers and boo’s were erupted as the team rushed out. Clapping as you looked for Yangyang. Seeing it a bit hard since they all looked like red and blue blurs. Finally catching sight of him, he looks up and scans the crowd until they find you. Waving at you, you go to wave at him until you notice he wasn’t particularly looking at you. Looking besides you, you see your best friend waving at him lowly so you wouldn’t notice. A glint of mischief in her eyes as she had a small smirk on her face. Even with his helmet on you could still see a small grin on his face. You didn’t want to look too much into it but over the course of time you did notice the little things.
How your best friends always butted in your conversations about him. How she always asked for his attention when it wasn’t needed then says it was for your own good. How she sounded shocked when he suggested that he could tutor you. You felt like something between them is going on since times like when he was teaching how to move around in the skates, he would always glance over at her to see if she needed help. Glanced at her when you had your head down trying desperately to write down all the notes. And now she was late, hair messy and now she has this look on her face as Yangyang is grinning. At her. Was there something going on? No it can’t be. I mean she’s your best friend, she knows you’ve had the hots for him years on end. She couldn’t possibly have a crush on him nor secretly be hooking up with him…right?
You tried to push those thoughts in the back of your head. But every time the team scores, she would jump up and clap. Yelling out Yangyang’s name. “Isn’t he great?!” She asks you. Faking a smile, you nod and cheer for him. Not as excitedly as her though. And when the game was over, you two began to make your way out. “Hey I’m going to the restroom you can head out.” “You sure?” “Yeah see you Monday!” Already making her way far from you, “oh okay. See ya” As you were making your way, you had the urge to go and congratulate Yangyang on his win. Walking through the halls and trying to read the signs. You hear the faint voice of Haechan’s. Calling someone’s name out. Going the opposite way, you then see a sign that says locker room. Knocking on it, you didn’t hear any voice. It was a risk that you could possible see something you couldn’t possible prepare you no matter how much you can imagine it in your mind. But you walk in. Looking around, the room was silent. Until you heard whispers.
Peeping your head out from one of the lockers. You gasp lowly when you see your best friend and Yangyang. Pulling him in for a kiss. Pushing him up against the lockers as she wraps her arms around his neck. You could hear your heart shatter. Your suspicions were right. What hurt most is that your best friend was keeping this from you. Why? Why pretend everything was fine? That nothing between him and her was happening. Feeling tears start to well up in your eyes, you looked away when Yangyang start sucking hickies on her neck and she moaned his name out. Shaking your head, you turned back around and walked out. You felt betrayed. Absolutely betrayed and what upset you more is that you really thought you had a chance with him. You should’ve known from the beginning. I mean your compatibility with him compared with your best friend was different. Those two go well together and you, well you can barely muster up a sentence with him.
What was going to hurt even more is come back Monday, where Yangyang is going to have to tutor you. A part of you doesn’t know if you want your best friend to come clean or continue like nothing happen because whatever decision she makes it will still hurt nonetheless. Rushing to get out, you slam the doors open wide when you hear a groan. Gasping, you peep your head out and see that one of the players, Mark is currently scrunched over in pain. “Oh my god I’m so sorry!” “No…no it’s fine.” Feeling out of breath, he keeps covering his lower area. Eyes widening when you realized the metal door knob hit his crotch. “Do you need help? Oh gosh I really didn’t mean to!” “No I’ll be okay don’t worry-“ “You sure? Can I at least make it up to you like…you want food or clothes? Gas?…” he snorts and looks up at you. “Already asking me out?” Freezing you’re lost for words. “Um…uh-“ he laughs and stands up properly. “Im joking about that. But yeah food sounds nice. I’m Mark by the way.” “Y/n” “So what has you running out so frantically that got you shoving the doors wide open?” “It’s, well it’s complicated really.” “Well thank goodness we’re getting food. You can tell me then.” “O-Okay”
You felt awkward. Not uncomfortable but awkward. You never talked to any of the other guys in the team, and now here you are in Mark’s car. Driving to an In n Out because you’re making it up to him for hitting his crotch with a door knob. You heard much about Mark just like Yangyang and the others. Mark is pretty popular with the ladies like Jeno. Difference is, Jeno doesn’t date. Mark though, he dates when he absolutely is interested in someone. He has hookups but not much as Jeno. He only does it when he wants to which isn’t a lot. When arriving there, you two got in line and the silence was very overbearing for you. Although Mark didn’t seem to have a problem with it. If anything, he took that time to look over you. When getting to order, you two said what you wanted. When given the price, you grab your phone that helped your credit card. “Here you go.” You hear Mark’s voice say. Looking over you see that he already handed his to the cashier. “You do know this was my way to repay you for accidentally hurting you right?” Mark only smiles at you and thanks the cashier after getting his card back and the receipt. Filling your drinks and following him to take a seat near a window. Sun already almost down. Lights around the city beginning to turn on.
“Yeah but I don’t like seeing ladies paying for me. Feels a little disrespectful for letting them do so.” “How so?” “Well I was raised to be a gentleman, I don’t like letting woman pay when I should be doing so.” “Yeah but shouldn’t it be a 50/50. Especially if you’re in a relationship. Wouldn’t you want your girlfriend to be even with you?” “That’s what my girl said.” “Y-Your girl?” “Yeah she’s this very cute adorable being who’s in my English class. She’s an ace in everything and wears this freaking cute classes. Has her nose all twitchy.” You couldn’t help but smile at him. He looked so sweet, all lovey dovey talking about his girlfriend. “But she doesn’t like it when I spoil her. Scolds me when I don’t let her pay for stuff. We actually had a fight about it.” “Really because you won’t let her pay?” “Well not exactly…” “Then what?” “Well you see I don’t like her paying. But that also means I don’t like her buying certain stuff.” “Like?…” “Well she likes wearing skirts and tank tops. She also wears shorts which isn’t a problem it’s just that…” “What?” “She wears them to school.” Unintentionally laughing out loud, you quickly cover your mouth. He frowns at you and talks.
“It’s not funny I’m being serious.”
“You don’t like her wearing certain clothes? Seriously?” “I don’t mind her wearing them I mean she has a great ass and everything. My god she’s a literal goddess-“ “Okay Mark going a little overboard.” “Sorry, but it’s just. The guys at schools are pigs. They’ll literally kiss and hump anything that has an ass and tits.” “Yeah tell me about it.” You nod and drop the laughter. “Really? What’s your story?” He raises a brow at you. Taking a sip from his soda and crosses his arms.
“Well I um, have a crush. On this boy. My best friend knows my crush about him but today I…saw them. Together. Hooking up.” I tell him in pauses. Trying hard to hold in tears and the hitches that are trying to keep me from breathing evenly. “Oh dang I’m sorry about that.” “Don’t be, you’re not at fault.” “Well whoever he is, he’s passing up a great girl like you. As your friend, ouch she is terrible for doing that to you.” Nodding I look down at my hands. His hand resting on top of mine. “You shouldn’t be going through that. Really. You know if you’re looking for a new best friend, I know this very cute girl who wears these adorable glasses-“ giggling, I smile and nod at him. “Thank you Mark. I appreciate the nice gesture, and kind words I really needed that.” “Of course anytime.” “And as for you. You should trust your girlfriend on this. Let her wear what she wants. It’s not her fault men are pigs. Besides your a ice hockey player, if anyone even dares to think about her in any inappropriate way you can just body slam them.” He laughs and nods. “You’re right. Thank you now shall we go get our food?” “Yes we shall.” You give him a genuine smile.
_______
Monday rolled around pretty quickly and you weren’t ready at all. You didn’t know what to do and you ignore every single call from your best friend. When you were dropped off by Mark he gave you his phone number along with his girlfriends. He was able to convince you to keep them just so if you needed knew friends they would be there. You felt awkward accepting a number of a person you didn’t talk to be he assured you his baby was the sweetest person and is very accepting. And also that she is in need for a new friend. (He doesn’t sound quite fond of the ones she has now)
When you got to the campus you tried to keep it cool. She wasn’t there like she usually is which is right in front of the school doors. Must be with him. It hurt to just even mention is name, figuring it’s best to go with him. You walked to your locker and out in the stuff you wouldn’t be needing. “Hey!” You heard her voice beam. The voice you really didn’t want to hear. Closing your locker, you look besides you and feel your chest tighten. Next to her was Yangyang himself. His usual grin on his face. “Hello, both of you.” “Hey y/n. I just came to see you two before classes. I didn’t see you after the game I was bit sad about that. No congratulations?” He teases you. Hands on his hips as he tilts his face. Averting your eyes at him, you look over at y/bsf/n. Her eyes were concentrated on her shoes. Chewing the inside of her cheek like she normally does when she’s keeping something from someone. Something you never really seen her do. And now that she is, you felt even worse. You wanted to confront them. Tell them you found them sucking each other’s faces but the other part of you just wanted to walk away from them. Get rid of yourself in their little group that they made.
Before you were able to come up with something, you feel a tap on your shoulder. Turning around, your face scrunches when you see a girl there. Glasses prompt on her nose. Seeing the small twitch in them. She looks so adorable, books in arms as she wears an oversized hoodie and bikers shorts underneath. This has to be Mark’s girlfriend. She fits in every description Mark have you. “Hi!” She waves at you. A beam of energy in her ignites. “Oh hello how can I help you?” You tell her shyly. “Mark told me about you and-“ “You met Mark?” Yangyang interrupts her. Y/bsf/n looks at you in wonder. “Yeah, I met him on Friday.” Looking back at her who was still waiting to get her words out. “What were you saying?” “Oh yeah! Um I heard great things about you and was wondering if you would like to have lunch sometime? If you want you can sit with me and Mark?” “Oh well that-“ “That sounds great!” Y/bsf/n says out loud. Confusion written on you as you glance at her.
“Mark sits in Yangyang’s table. How about we all sit there for lunch yeah?” “Sounds like a great idea” Yangyang says. Looking at her. Your throat feels like it was beginning to close up. He was admiring her. Eyes filled with want. And now you have to have lunch with that. And what’s worse is that they’re doing it right in front of you. What was suppose to be your best friend is giving him that smile you always gave him. Looking away, you nod at her. Trying to hide away the sadness. “Sure. We’d like that.” “Okay great! See then bye!”
“Well look at you making new friends.” Y/bsf/n squeals. Touching your elbow. Instinctually moving it away from her touch, you nod. “Yeah, I uh got go. See ya.” Walking away, you don’t look back and see the confusion on both of their faces. The look of concern from Yangyang as he stares at your figure until it’s not spotted anymore.
“You okay? You seem out of it?” Yangyang asks you during class. “Yep. Just paying attention.” You tell him monotonously. “Hey y/n. You okay?” “I’m fine y/bsf/n.” You tell her, a hint of a cold tone to it. She leans away and goes back to her work. You knew that throughout the class they would steal glances at one another. Motioning their chins to you, asking the other what was up with you. But you didn’t try to tell them you were fine. No more reassuring. What difference does it make? You felt absolutely betrayed. When the bell rang, they tried to talk to you but you brushed them off. Telling them you would meet them in the cafeteria.
“Hey man” Mark greets Yangyang. Doing their usual hand shake, Mark eyes y/bsf/n who was standing next to him. “Who’s this?” “My…girlfriend.” “Girlfriend?” Two voices asks. Thing is, one was behind them. Both Yangyang and y/bsf/n turn around and see you were behind them. You knew those two were hooking up but they were actually dating? When were you ever going to be noted about this? “Y/n I-“ shaking your head, you lift your arm to keep her from talking. Taking a few steps back where you bump into Mark’s girlfriend. “Oh y/n hey. Glad you joined us.” “Sorry but I can’t. I got to get some fresh air.” Walking past her, she goes to ask you if you needed anything. When y/bsf/n calls out your name. “Y/n!” Following after her, Yangyang is frozen in his spot. He was absolutely lost. Did y/n not know he and her best friend have been hooking up since the beginning of the school year? It’s been only a few days since those two made it official after the game.
Mark put the pieces together and immediately knows that the boy you were referring to was Lui Yangyang. “Oh man you’re an idiot.” He mutters.
“Y/n wait!” “What?!” “Let me explain-“ “Explain what?! Aren’t you suppose to be my best friend? You knew I liked him since 1st grade damn it! You were the one who wanted me to make progress with him and now that I have here you are?! What’s wrong with you?” You shout at her. The empty hallway echoing. Sniffling as you use the back of your hand to dry your fallen tears.
“Well it’s not like he was into you anyway” she says bluntly. “What?” Scoffing, she shakes her head. Eyes on anything but you. “Look y/n. Me and him we’ve been hooking up since the beginning of the school year alright? I didn’t feel anything towards him so it’s why I was telling you to go for it.” “Were you never planning on telling me?! You still hooked up with him even when you knew about my crush on him!”
“He never liked you! You can’t get mad at me that he’s into in me and not you. And now that I like him well it’s not like you can do anything. He likes me, I like him. No one not even you can do anything to prevent us from dating-“ the hallway’s silence was erupted when a loud slap was heard. The gasp from y/bsf/n and her cheek beginning to turn red shocked her. Never would she have expected that. You never in a million years would result in violence. Physical or verbally. But you felt so betrayed, before you, stood the biggest traitor on the planet. She didn’t deserve to be left with you broken and in tears. No she deserved the outcome of your wrath.
“Lose my fucking number!” You shout at her with a stinging hiss to it. Your voice has never sounded this scary. Never have you ever raised your voice ever. She was met with a whole new side of you that kinda frightened her. And you a little. Turning around, you walked off campus. You felt too angry, and you had a good thirty minutes of class. You wish you could just ditch school but you didn’t want to be stuck hearing your parents yelling. So instead you grabbed a pass and left the campus for the remainder of the lunch period.
_______
Already the end of school hours, you rushed off to leave already. Quickly grabbing your stuff in your locker and walking out of the building.
“Hey y/n! What happened? You ran off and when y/bsf/n came back she had a red mark on her face. Why did you two fight?” Yangyang stops you. Grabbing you just before you left the school grounds. Sighing, you shove his hand off you.
“Yangyang I think it’s best if you no longer talk to me. Sorry it’s came to this but I can’t do this-“
“Hey. What’s wrong talk to me-“
“That’s the problem! I can’t! I’m going through something that you can’t understand because you’re not in the same level as me! You wouldn’t understand my perspective Yangyang!” You yell at him.
Taking a step back. He didn’t expect you to be this upset. He’s never seen you this upset, ever. “Is it because of me? Did I do something wrong? Did I hurt your feelings?” He only begins to ask more questions when he sees tears begin to fall down your face. Shaking your head, you wipe your tears away. Hating how he’s seeing you in such a vulnerable state. Something you always tried to keep at bay. Never wanting anyone from school to see you like that. Not even your crush of 11 years.
“Tutoring is off. I don’t need it anymore.”
And with that you had walked away and he didn’t go after you. And you didn’t want him to. It’s best if you never interacted with them ever again.
_____
“Y/n! Someone is here for you!” Your nerves rise, who could it be? It better not be that traitor of a friends of yours. Well ex friend. Walking down the stairs slowly, you see your mother walking back from the door. A wicked smile on her face.
“Never knew it was that young gentleman a few blocks down.”
Confused. You walk over to the door and freeze when you see Yangyang stood there. In his head still which could only mean he just got back from practice.
“What are you doing here Yang?”
“Still need to be tutored.” “What?” Closing the door behind him. His backpack in hand, he walks over to you. “So where do you want to study?” He smiles at you softly, eyes over at your mother who was listening in on you two.
Not wanting to make a bigger deal especially in front of your mother who really wants you to raise your grade, you nod and motion for him to follow you up to your room. When you two did enter, you closed the door behind you. Turning around to face Yangyang who plopped himself on your bed. “Can I use your bathroom? To take the gear off…” “Oh yeah, it’s in tat door right there.” Sitting on your bed, you hear the door click shut. Running a frustrated hand through your hair. What was he doing here? Did he forget what you said earlier? Is he acting dumb?
“Alright. Ready?” Eyeing him as he sets his stuff on the ground and sits on your bed, he looks at you and tilts his head. “What?” “No, you what. What are you doing here?” “To tutor you duh-“ “Yangyang” sighing, he nods and looks down at his hands. “I don’t know what happened back there. But I don’t want to lose you for it.” “Lose me? Yangyang why would you care? We weren’t even friends before that.” Looking up at you, you began to regret it immediately. The instant look of hurt in his eyes looking into yours. “Oh. Well I thought of you as one.”
“Yeah. That’s the problem.” You mumble. Facing away from him, silence overtaking the room. He hates it. He hates that your shutting him out. He hates seeing that frown on your face.
He hasn’t felt this way recently. In ways, he always has for the years he’s known you. Ever since he bumped into you in the first grade and accidentally hurt you, he’s always had this instinct to look out for you. When he saw you crying, he never left your side for a good week. And the week after, he would go up to your ‘best friend’ and ask if you were doing alright.
An instinct to make sure you never have another frown on your face. He’s been doing it for 11 years now.
“Please talk to me” he pleads, his fingers taking hold of your chin. “I really liked talking to you, even if it’s the most we have in the 11 years we’ve known each other.” “You actually remember me all these years?” “Why wouldn’t I?” “I don’t know, you’re popular. You get along with other extroverts. Like…your girlfriend.” What a sting to your chest when you mentioned her. “Believe me, I’m actually an introvert.” Scoffing, you shake you head and lay down on your bed. “Hard to believe that.” “No really.” Following your lead. He lays down next to you. Face propped on top of his hand. “All those people can’t even tell me what my favorite snack is. When they’re crowded around me, I don’t even speak much of anything to them. I usually speak to those I’m close with.” “Like the boys in your team?” “Yep and you” “I don’t know your favorite snack.”
“I know yours.” “Oh yeah? Which one?” “Skittles. And when you’re more into the sweeter side, Reese’s because they’re easy to chew and taste amazing.” “H-How?” You don’t remember telling him anything about your favorite snack. Heck the most you remember telling him is your favorite color on a random school day when he was your desk partner. But you were sure he didn’t hear you because his friend was sitting next to him and were pretty loud.
“I listened to everything you told me when we were desk buddies in the fifth grade.” Gasping, you snicker and shake your head. “No way. I thought I was talking to myself the whole time. You actually listened to me?” Nodding, he throws you that adorable smile to you. “I always did. It’s hard to not listen to that adorable voice of yours.” Nodding, you didn’t realize when you two began to lean on closer and closer. When you did snap out of it, you cleared your throat and moved your head.
“So shall we get to studying.” He nods softly, grabbing his notebook out of his bad. “I’m feeling thirsty. I’m going to go get water, you anything?” “Water will be good too. Thanks.” Walking out of your room, Yangyang lets out a loud breath of air. He didn’t know what was going over him. He knew what was about to happen. He knew it was wrong. He’s taken for crying out loud. Yet in that moment, he didn’t care. It felt right. And when you pulled away, he wasn’t thinking that it was a bad idea to be this close to someone that isn’t your girlfriend. No he thought it was a bad idea that you pulled away instead. Why was he thinking this way? You were nothing but a good friend he wishes he could’ve gotten closer with.
‘Alright come on Yangyang. Snap out of it.’ He mentally tells himself.
‘She’s not your girlfriend. She’s your friend’
‘That’s right. She’s just a friend you’ve known since the first grade’
‘Y/n is just a friend nothing else. You already have a girlfriend’
‘Your girlfriend is y/n , and she’s who you’ve always had a crush on - no wait!’
In shock, he opens his eyes, widened he couldn’t believe himself.
“Oh my god I’m whipped for her”
_____
Tuesday came and another day spent at school. This time you spent your time with Mark and his girlfriend and she was the sweetest. Shame you didn’t befriend her earlier. During your period with them. You sat in front. The students piling in, ignoring the sad look Yangyang gave you. Hoping that maybe you would’ve sat in your usual seat for him.
He couldn’t stop glancing over at you. And throughout the entire period, he was the one distracted. He was the one who couldn’t write down any notes. His girlfriend took your spot and wouldn’t stop touching him which before he liked but now he couldn’t help but find irritating. What’s wrong with him? I mean wasn’t this what he wanted? To be with your ex best friend? I mean he knew she had a crush on him since 8th grade but he never acted upon it because well he wasn’t interested. If anything he kinda stayed away from dating. Well that’s what he told himself. When Jeno asked him if he sees himself dating anyone, his eyes averted over to you sitting by a tree in the 8th grade. Now to think of it, he actually was one to date. But only for one specific person. Part of him hoped you would look at him the way he secretly looked at you. And when you couldn’t even look at him or give him complete sentences he thought all hope was lost. It especially hurt him when your best friend had told him you didn’t like him. Maybe that’s why he turned to your best friend. Because she was the closest thing in relation to you.
There were times when he was hooking up with her where his mind would avert to you. He always thought because you and her are always together. It’s why he accidentally thinks if you. But the more he thinks of it, he hates that he’s now stuck with her and not you. He hates that he’s on the other side of the bed he doesn’t want to be on. He began dating your best friend in hopes that it will be secured that he would most definitely get closer to you and now here you are, seats away from him and can’t even open up to him as to why.
What was worse is that during lunch, he sat with his friends. His girlfriend with him who couldn’t stop touching his hair. Eyes across the room where he sees you chatting with Mark and his girl. That should be him not Mark. Mark shouldn’t be getting closer to you and getting to know more things about you. He shouldn’t be there cracking jokes that you spit your water out for. He should be the one to do that.
“You alright baby?” He hears her voice say.
Looking away from you, eyes on hers. He felt conflicted. Was he making the right choice? Of course not. He didn’t feel anything towards her. Now that he’s right besides her, staring deeply into her eyes he didn’t feel that spark of ecstasy. The joy he had. The joy he had knowing he was closer to you.
“No”
Currently laughing at a dumb story Mark was telling, finding hilarious at the snide comments his girlfriend made. You felt happy. Happier than ever. You were free from that traitor. You were free from her negative energy and now here you were having a nice time with your new two friends. Before Mark is able to finish his story, you hear gasps and ooh’s heard from around the cafeteria. Looking over to the source, you see the said traitor getting up in anger.
“Fuck you!”
Eyes following to her stare, you gasp when seeing Yangyang sat there with milk spilt all over his head. Walking away in anger, she passes by your table and glares at you. Scoffing, she stomps out of the cafeteria. It felt awkward, the tension. But little by little people began to resume to what they were once doing.
“Oh my god, poor Yangyang.” You hear your friend tell you.
“It’s about time he broke up with her.” Mark tells her.
Ignoring them, you watch as Yangyang gets up and walks out. A part of you wanted to follow him, and the other well you didn’t know. You ignored that part because here you were, up on your feet rushing after him. Seeing the familiar figure enter the bathroom.
“Yang?” You knock on the door. After a few seconds you fall in when the door opens. Squealing, you were now fallen into the arms of the golden boy. “Y/n? What are you doing here?” He tells you. Hair wet from taking off the milk and shirt damped from it. “I wanted to check up on you.” “I broke up with her.” “Oh well um, I-I’m sorry for that. I know you really liked her-“ “No I didn’t. I don’t even know why I thought dating her would be a good idea. This whole time my motive wasn’t to go after her.” “No?”
Staying quiet. He looked conflicted, he wouldn’t meet your eyes and was playing with his hands.
“Yangyang?”
“I’m sorry” “Sorry? For what?”
“For what I’m about to do.”
Grabbing your face, he pulls you in. Softly kissing you. For 11 years you’ve always imagined this day and now it has come. And yet no matter how realistic it seemed in your head, it didn’t in reality. It felt like a fever dream. His lips felt a lot more softer than you imagined. Pulling away, you stay frozen. Breathing in the air that was taken away from you. His head on yours, not wanting to pull away.
“I’ve had a crush on you since first grade and yet I was too oblivious to realize it. I did stupid decisions just because I didn’t have the balls to confess to you. I thought dating her was the closest thing to dating you. I thought it would help me get closer to you too and now I know how stupid that ended up being.”
“She knew. She knew I had a crush on you.”
“I know. She told me in the cafeteria, she lied to me by telling me you weren’t interested in me.”
“She did what?”
“But that doesn’t matter because no matter how many lies she tells me, my feelings for you aren’t. I really do like you. For the longest, and it’s hard going on with the years and still not confessing to you.” He mumbles, lips centimeters away from yours.
“Well…I liked you since the first grade too.” That similar bright smile appeared on his face once again. Replicating one yourself.
“Can I…kiss you?” You tell him shyly.
“Only if you become mine.” He tells you, holding up his pinky. Snorting, you laugh at him. Whining, he looks away from you. “Im trying to be cute here!” He tells you in between your neck.
“Deal.” You tell him, wrap your pinky around his. Jumping away from your neck, he leans in and kisses your lips he’s fallen in love with already. A content sigh escapes him, feeling his day immediately getting brighter.
A traitor resulted in bringing you the best golden boy you could’ve ever asked for.

!This Is A Work Of Fiction! !This Is A Work Of Fiction! !This Is A Work Of Fiction! !This Is A Work Of Fiction! Something about that little incident made you grab onto him. You felt as though you could care less but your breath was stifled, you eyes were pressured behind your eyes as you wondered what the fuck happened to lead you to this moment. Instincts can be divided into four characteristics, and your cute gentle boyfriend awoke all of them in you. Freud decided back in who knows when that instinct can be broken into two phenomena, mentally and physically, psychological and biological. Your instincts became a representation of your physical and mental needs. This man drew it all out and broke it down.
At this very moment, Taeil wanted to go to the bookstore to get a reference text for one of his classes. It was a sheer amount of pressure building in you as he stumbled out of his class. Through the halls of the college to the front where you sat leaning against your motorcycle. You stood in a pair of high leather boots, a black denim jeans and a print t-shirt of a cartoon character. Waiting patiently as your heart pounded against your ribs.
What was Taeil wearing? How was his classes?
You could feel the raw strength of your knees shaking as you tried to fight the towering building telling you he was drawing closer after a quick glimpse at his message.

Warnings: Mention of alcohol, being drunk
Drunk Thoughts
You were really wasted already. After all the stress at school and your life, this party was like your rest day. Contiuning to dance and ignoring the dizzines felt better than you thought.
But appearently your best friend didn't think so.
"Y/N, you look like you're about to throw up!"
He was yelling to make you hear him clearly.
"I'm fine!"
Like your stomach was waiting for the humiliate you, you felt sick right after you said that.
"We had our fun. Let's get you home."
Yangyang helped you to get out of the place and settled you in the car. You watched him while he was fixing your seatbelt.
"What?"
"Nothing."
He sat in the driver seat and started the car. Your drunk mind panicked all of a sudden.
"You can't drive!"
"Don't worry I didn't drink."
"Why?"
"I think you've drunk for both of us."
He answered with a smile. You didn't know if it was the alcohol or your little crush on this guy but this smile made your heart beat faster.
"Yangie."
"Hm?"
"You look beautiful when you smile."
He thanked to the gods for your drunk state or else you'd deffinately notice his reddened face.
"Thanks."
You chuckled even though there was nothing funny about it. There was a little bit of sanity left in you that was trying to hold you back. Holding you back from telling him all about your feelings. Or crying about how cute he is. Or just kissing him. So you just chuckled.
A few more minutes and you finally arrived to your home. Again, he helped you to get in to your apartment. He unlocked the door.
"See you tomorrow."
You held his hand right before he could go.
"Wait...Well, thank you."
He tried to ignore the fact that you were staring at his lips.
"You're welcome."
He smiled softly.
"I'll miss your drunk self I guess."
He swallowed his smile when you step closer.
"You really are beautiful. Did you know that?"
He didn't say anything back. And he just let you kiss him for a short second.
You didn't care that he didn't kiss you back at the moment. But he said a quick goodbye right after. Leaving you all stupid.

— [15 : 07 HRS] "Yangyang." Y/n's stern tone made the air go cold. Yangyang cocked his head and leaned on her locker, fidgeting with a lollipop in his hand, and watched her talking to another boy with the corner of his eye. He took no notice to Yangyang, completely ignoring him as if he's someone irrelevant. He was sure the boy threw him some dirty looks here and there. Y/n kept listening to him, the noticable dread on her face as the boy boasted about himself. Yangyang scoffed silently.
Just then, the boy said something not so pleasant. Y/n took a step back, her features turned to represent disgust. Yangyang stood from his previous position, successfully tearing off the wrapper of the lollipop and popping it in his mouth. Throwing his jacket on the ground, he coldly spoke, his eyes seeing nothing but red.
"That's my girlfriend you're talking to, you fucking douche."
Yangyang: “21❤️❤️” (Date:10.10.2021)
Yangyang: do you smell that?
Kun: *sniffs* no
Yangyang: me neither. go back to the kitchen
