# summary: he forgot your name, your laugh, and every promise you once held together but you never stopped remembering.
the first time you met ten, it was raining.
you were both stuck under the same store awning, the city breathing in that quiet, post-storm stillness. he offered you half of his umbrella, even though you both knew it wouldn’t help much.
“we’ll still get wet,” you said, smiling softly.
“then we’ll just walk slower,” he replied, eyes crinkling and somehow, even under the gray sky, he looked like sunlight.
you never expected to see him again, but the universe is strange that way. you ran into him days later at a café, both of you ordering the same thing. and maybe that’s where it began not with fireworks or fate, but with quiet coincidences that felt a little too kind to ignore.
he was gentle in everything. in how he listened, in how he laughed, in how he loved.
the two of you built a world together.. small, simple, full of music and warmth. sundays were for grocery runs. tuesdays were for movie nights. you had your routines, your inside jokes, your favorite songs that felt like forever.
and then, one day, forever broke.
the call came at 2 a.m. a blur of panic and headlights and voices that didn’t sound real. they said he’d be okay. they said the surgery went well. they said things that tried to sound like hope.
but when he opened his eyes again,
he didn’t say your name.
“do i… know you?” his voice was soft, unsure. polite.
your world folded in on itself.
you smiled anyway. “yeah. you used to.”
for weeks, you kept visiting him. bringing him flowers he didn’t remember liking, telling him stories that used to belong to both of you. he’d listen with quiet fascination, like you were reading him a fairytale.
“you must’ve loved him a lot,” he said one afternoon, after you told him about your first trip together.
you laughed weakly. “i still do.”
days blurred into months. you learned to live in fragments small moments where he’d tilt his head and look at you like something about your voice felt familiar. once, when you reached for a cup, your hands brushed, and he froze for a heartbeat too long.
he smiled.. the same smile you used to wake up to and it hurt, because now it wasn’t yours.
“you okay?” you asked.
“yeah,” he said. “it’s just… you feel like déjà vu.”
that night, you cried in the car, letting the rain drown out everything you couldn’t say.
you tried to move on.. you really did.
but how do you unlove someone who still exists?
the world didn’t stop just because you were stuck in the past.
he started walking again, smiling again, living again.. just without you.
and yet, even after everything, he still texted sometimes.
random things, a song recommendation, a picture of the sunset, a “hope you’re doing okay.”
maybe some part of him remembered you, even if he didn’t know why.
one evening, you found yourself back at the same café where you first met. the same corner table. the same sound of rain tapping softly against the windows.
he walked in.. older, calmer, but still the same in ways that mattered.
“you’re here,” he said, surprised.
“i always come here,” you replied, smiling faintly. “old habits.”
he sat across from you, eyes gentle.
“can i ask you something?”
you nodded.
“that story you used to tell me,” he began slowly, “about the girl and the boy who fell in love… did that really happen?”
your breath caught.
“yeah,” you whispered. “it did.”
he looked down at his coffee, a small frown forming.
“i think about them a lot,” he said quietly. “especially the boy. i keep feeling like i’m supposed to know how it ends.”
you smiled through the ache.
“maybe he just never stopped loving her.”
he looked up then and for a fleeting second, his eyes softened, like he was seeing something he’d been searching for all this time.
“yeah,” he said, voice barely above a whisper. “maybe he didn’t.”
outside, the rain fell softer like the world exhaled with you.
and maybe this was it.
not the ending you dreamed of, but the one that still mattered two souls crossing paths again, even if memory failed where love never did.
when you left that café, you didn’t look back.
you didn’t have to.
because even if he forgot your name a thousand times,

I. NO ONE BUT YOU
pairing: brokenhearted! yangyang x best friend! reader
synopsis -> after his girlfriend left him for his bestfriend, liu yangyang’s favorite coping mechanism is running to you for emotional support. every damn time he bumped into them on campus, he wore that perfect mask: a polite smile, a fake laugh, pretending he was completely fine. only to end the night crying on your shoulder, falling apart. and every single damn time — you were there. handing him tissues, listening to the same rants on repeat, cracking sarcastic jokes until he laughed through his tears…all while pretending your own heart wasn’t breaking. why couldn’t he see that the person who always understood him best had been here all along?
II. GIVE ME THAT
pairing: matchmaker! xiaojun x client! reader
synopsis -> after successfully playing cupid for his friend mark lee — xiaojun decides he’s basically a love expert. so what does he do? start a side hustle — plastering cryptic ads in the most random corners of the university, offering the services of the self-proclaimed, 100% success rate, campus matchmaker. two weeks of radio silence later, his first (and only) client calls — you. you’re exhausted from a string of situationships that never seem to graduate into actual relationships, and maybe, just maybe, this ridiculous “love expert” could help. but after a couple sessions, you start to suspect that xiaojun’s little matchmaking gig isn’t quite what it seems.
III. CALL ME
pairing: fraternity leader! hendery x sorority leader! reader
synopsis -> a dirty little secret. that’s what you and hendery have always been. your houses are bound by years of rivalry and resentment, an unwritten rule that makes what you do even more intoxicating. because behind closed doors — no one can fuck you the way hendery does. but with graduation looming and secrecy becoming harder to maintain, the question becomes impossible to ignore: will you finally defy the rivalry and admit what’s been burning between you all along, or will you keep pretending this forbidden situationship was never anything more than just fun?
authors note: this is a work of fiction only and should not be taken seriously. the way the wayv boys are portrayed in these stories are obviously not a representation of who they are in real life. thank you and have fun reading!

“i hope to meet you one day. - dejun” is what the letter said.
the final letter that had stayed in your thoughts since you received it a thirteen. it had been 10 years since you last heard from him, xiao dejun.
you started as friends, writing across the ocean as penpals. slowly, it evolved into more. you started from monthly skype to the daily facetime sessions. you never forgot him. how could you? he was your first love after all.
all you wanted was closure. just one final goodbye.
so that’s what you did. you booked the first flight to guangzhou baiyun airport. tomorrow at 5:15am. you started packing, filling your suitcases with pictures of the years he missed out on, hoping to catch him up to speed.
you pulled out the envelope the letter was once in, before it was eventually pinned to your bedroom wall. it still had his address on the back, despite the water damage from your tears smudging it, you could still read it.
you take a didi to his house, excited to see him after all these years. not an ounce of worry was to be found within you. it would be just like old times!
you arrive at his front porch, taking in the home. older, but cozy. you knock three times to a middle age chinese woman’s surprise.
“nei5 hou2,nei5 hai6 bin1 go3” she asks with reproach.
“i am a friend of dejun’s.” you respond with joy.
her face falls at the mention of his name. she gestures you to come in. “come in please” she says in broken english.
you enter the home. the woman who you assume is his mother, pulls out her phone and starts speaking.
“yes…” you respond, unsure of where this is going.
“ngo5 jau5 go3 waai6 siu1sik1,tim4sam. keoi5 gau2 nin4 cin4 sei2 zo2” she responds with a somber expression.
you wait for the phone to translate it.
“i have bad news for you, sweetheart. he died nine years ago.” the machine delivers the message, with no human warmth.
you sit there in shock. you have no words. every time you go to open your mouth, nothing comes out but choked-out cries.
you start sobbing in the living room. his mother wraps her warmth around you. she whispers in your ear as she rubs your back. “ngo5 hou2deoi3 m4 zyu6 ngo5 ge3 ngoi3jan4”
you don’t know what she’s saying, but you don’t need to. you stay there for what feel like an eternity, memories flashing in your mind, filling you with guilt and regret. the tears won’t stop falling. after you finally compose yourself slightly, his mother speaks up.
“i can take you to see him, one last time.” the machine answers.
“please.” you respond in a whisper.
she takes you up a hill behind the home, guiding you to dejun. you arrive at this grave, taken care of and decorated with fresh flowers. you smile to yourself, he was so loved. with a pat on the back, she leaves you alone to say your last words to him.
“xiao dejun. i loved you. i still love you. i will never stop loving you. i am so sorry i never go to say goodbye, but i will now. i hope you’re doing well my dejun-ah. i will meet you again. one day, we will finally be together. rest for now, my love.” your voice cracks as you speak.
what’s done is done. you came here to do what you set out to do. but you don’t want to leave yet.
so you won’t. you spend the rest of the evening chatting next to him, catching him up on your life, just like you said you would. you show him the photos, you know he can see them. you leave feeling full. full of love and content, no longer full of regret and guilt.
i will see you again, my love. until we meet again.
a/n: get ready to sob again! title is inspired by 'til we meet again by aespa. idk why but i'm an angst kinda mood so..that's what this author's choice'll be. enjoy.
[ 7:40pm ] for the first time ever, you were ready before your boyfriend. you had a date planned and since you started putting on your makeup and clothes earlier, and dejun was scrolling on tiktok, you somehow were dressed head to toe whereas he was hurriedly putting on his tie.
“i never thought such a miracle would happen” you chuckled, deciding to help him. the reservation was for 8pm and it was nearly 7:40pm. add a 10 minute ride… yeah, you were on a tight schedule.
“can you pass me my watch? it should be somewhere in the drawer” he hummed, fingers nervously fixing the tie. maybe he shouldn’t put it on in a rush in the first place.
then he froze and in the same time he saw your silhouette in the mirror.
dejun whipped his head around and jumped to the drawer that you opened to reach for his watch. he totally forgot the thing was there too.
“are you serious?” you breathed out, your eyes finally tearing away from the velvety box. you looked at him, fear in his ebony irises. you laughed and smacked his arm, handing him the watch. “hide it better next time, idiot”
his heart was racing so fast, mentally cursing his own stupidity. how could he forget he hid the engagement ring there?
“come on, it’s not like you’ll propose today. let’s go, we’ll be late” you teased and pecked the corner of his lips, leaving the room. you tried to keep your cool but dejun could see the excitement in your features.
smiling foolishly to himself, he only shook his head and closed the drawer. he’ll hide it in a better spot once he comes back home.
after a romantic dinner. he drives you home from taking you to your date with him at a fancy dinner he had arranged, wanting you to show how he really loves you and would want to take the relationship into the next step. he walks you to the front porch of your house, standing near the doorstep. before he says goodbye, he says how much he enjoyed the date, and you say the same. there is a still sound of silence of him staring at you. then, he leans in to capture your lips to his. the rhythm of your mouths moving against each other is slow, but good enough for the both of you to feel the butterflies in your stomachs. he smiles at you when you pull away, and then his hand reached for your own, kissing the back of your palm before he leaves the neighborhood. kun will never forget such a memorable moment.
ten
during a game of spin the bottle. at first he laughs, staring at the empty wine bottle landing in your direction. with the rest of the players anticipating, he isn't afraid to back out. he hates being called a coward. he makes no hesitation before smashing his lips against yours. there's still the taste of alcohol both of you consumed just moments ago. besides the liquor, he also feels drunk with the way he keeps pressing his lips deeper and his tongue swiping on your bottom lip as a permission for more access. ten merely forgets the audience watching him, focusing entirely to make you feel good and pleased. when he pulls away, he gets a good view of your lips, smeared and coated with his own saliva, and lipstick smudged from the corners of your mouth. seeing you in that state gives him a satisfied look on his face, a smug creeping up from his lips.
winwin
saying goodbye to him. sicheng is given the opportunity to finally pursue the passion he loves, but it hurts him to know that he needs to leave where he already finds and calls home—you. both of you stand before the pane glass doorframes of the airport, sicheng's hand holds onto the handle of his luggage, while the other never leaves yours. it's all going too fast. the grip on your hand tightens. you notice the way he's trying to hold to his emotions, how hard he's trying to stifle his sobs. he feels you return the same tightness on his hand, assuring him that everything will be fine. a hand slowly creeps up to gently touch his already stained cheeks. he's going to miss you, so much. sicheng's hand clasps around the hand where you touch him, pulling it down. and there, you feel his plump lips on yours. it's trembling, and of course, it's sad. you don't tell him to stay through your reciprocation, but instead, it tells him to go, to chase what he loves.
xiaojun
acting out a kiss scene. it's the first rehearsal of the play the casts are going to act in, including the two of you. it's no surprise when both of you find out to be the leads of the play. dejun thinks that it will go as smoothly as possible, given the fact that the two of you are comfortable with each other of everything, and you think so too. as all of you are reading the script, the director reminds you of the kiss scenes, so when the actual practice came, dejun tells himself that the kiss is and only for professional purposes. he composes himself before standing in front of you with a smile. you say your lines, enunciating them word for word with feelings to embody the character as he does the same. his hands reaches for your own just like what it says on the script, and wasting no time, he plants a kiss on your lips. you don't move, but he feels his stomach doing the somersaults. all he can think about at this very moment is your soft lips, your grip on his hand tightens, your eyelashes tickling his cheeks—then it's all gone when you pull away. looking at each other for a few seconds, a sudden fit of laughter bursts out from the two of you. both of you suppress your giggles when the director yells, telling you and dejun to stop laughing and concentrate on the script.
hendery
out of curiosity. he stares at you with a surprised expression on his face after hearing you ask how a kiss feels like. it's not like he doesn't know how to kiss someone as he had gained experiences from previous relationships, and clearly this was your first. his mind go dizzy when you ask him to kiss you. he isn't sure if it's only his mind playing him, but with a couple slaps across his face, it's not a dream. before kissing you, hendery makes sure to ask if you're still okay with the idea, never forgetting to seek for your consent. with a hand on your neck and the other to cup your cheek, your lips are on his. the lingering touch of your hands on his chest traveling around his neck causes him to smile in between the kiss. he also makes sure that you're satisfied with the kiss he shares with you, in a way that will make you feel good and relieve to know that you just had the best first kiss ever given by your own friend. hendery can't seem to sleep the following nights, replaying the scene over and over again, as he starts to fall in love with you.
yangyang
in the heat of the moment. he understands why you're mad at him for completely ruining your date with a person you recently talked to. yangyang warns you over again that the guy isn't good for you, that his background isn't something that's worth to be with. he watches you pace around the room, telling him that he has no right to deny a relationship you want to have, telling him that he should mind his own business. he couldn't do that. he knows what's best for you because he cares for your happiness. if it weren't for him, you will be trapped in a toxic unbearable relationship that might emotionally and mentally break you. what he wants for you to realize that there is one who could actually treat and love you better—him. yangyang grabs you by the shoulders, snapping you out. you break free from his tight grip, wanting to turn around and leave the room. that is until you feel his hand tug your arm back to face him as he finally smashes his lips against yours. the kiss is nowhere near sweet and full of passion. it's rough, lips smacking against each other, teeth scraping the skin and muscle of your tongues, and short hot breaths filling the quiet room. he's angry, you're angry, but neither of you pull away.
Summary: You have been asked so many times if you have been in love. There's only one guy that comes to your mind when you're being asked about that.

XIAOJUN M.LIST l NCT MAIN MASTERLIST
"Teacher Y/N, have you been in love?" Your student suddenly approached you while you were fixing the books on the book shelf.
The room was already empty and there is only one kid left because she is waiting for her father to pick her up.
It was Valentine’s Day that day. The rooms are pretty decorated with hearts. During that day, you decided to have some fun activities for the kids. They made letters and some of them even gave you one. To make them even happier, you gave chocolates and small postcards for the students.
There was an early dismissal today because the school allowed the students to celebrate this day with their families and other loved ones. Therefore, everyone went home at 11:00 AM.
You knelt down to face the kid, just enough to reach her height. You looked at her who has short and shiny hair, with her two hair clips designed with dinosaurs, and thick eyebrows. She is wearing a red shirt and black shorts, with her cute rubber shoes and long socks.
You cupped her cheek, “Hmmm. Yes? I have been in love. With my career, with my family, with all of you, my students! Why did you ask, though?”
The kid smiled. A very familiar smile you have seen before.
“Teacher, I meant, romantically!” The kid answered.
You chuckled and sighed, “Yes.”
If she only knew your past.
You did not expect to hear this question from the kid. For a grade three student, you expect to hear educational questions. Actually, many students have asked you the same question before. You tried to make the storytelling lighter because you do not want them to feel the painful experience you had.
You have been inlove with him.
The two of you sat together in the two chairs in front so you could narrate it to her.
“I am ready to listen, teacher Y/N.” She said.
You smiled then sighed.
“Long time ago, I had my own prince charming. I met him in a very unexpected place and time. We have made memories since we were young and eventually, we grew up together reaching our dreams.”
XIAOJUN was your prince charming. You attended the same elementary school with him, the school where you are currently teaching. He was on the same grade level as you. Both of you were still young and unaware of what life has to offer. During weekends, the two of you go to parks to play, running endlessly under the rain, catching fishes in the pond, and when you reached adolescent stage, both of you treated each other differently.
“We were a good pair. He treated me like a princess. I see him as my prince. He.. he has a golden voice which actually captured my heart. Meanwhile, I was into writing so we just kept on supporting each other’s interest.” You added. The kid beside you still lends her ears.
When you reached high school, Xiaojun became a part of different musical groups in your school. Meanwhile, you were so active in participating in club activities that are related to writing. There are times that he will wait for you until you finished your activities so you could go home together. Let’s say, you are more than friends but less than lovers. Xiaojun could still hardly figure out his feelings.
“Eventually, our love grew together. We made our love story lowkey as much as possible. My prince is such a nice guy. He made me the happiest.” You added.
The kid giggled, “Oh my god! I am happy for you, teacher.”
Your smile faded away and you bit your lip.
“Unfortunately, we need to go our separate ways for the meantime. He needs to pursue his dreams while I also need to do my thing. You know, love stories will also undergo sad chapters, right?”
The kid nodded.
That was the moment when Xiaojun accepted the opportunity to be a part of SM Entertainment. LDR sucks, but thank God for video calls and chats. Xiaojun did not forget to make you the happiest, he is even sending you gifts. If he has an opportunity to go home to your country, he will always make time to see you.
“Uhhhh, teacher, did you break up with him?"
“During that time, not yet. We have been like.. in a long distance relationship. My prince is pursuing his dreams while I am doing my thing as well.”
When Xiaojun debuted as a WayV member, you expected him to be as busier as ever. You were so proud of what he has achieved. At the same time, you were doing great at school. You wished that he could have been studying that time, too. Studying with you. However, being a musician is also Dejun’s greatest dream. No one can take it away from him.
“So, how did your love story continue, teacher?” The kid asked again.
You don’t know if you should continue this because you might cry. But you need to be strong for the kid to not get worried.
“We.. We grew together as time passed, but we also grew apart. We had less time for each other because being a princess of my own has its own struggles, too. My prince is successfully achieving his dreams and I am happy for him, so I will not take a lot of time from him.”
You continued. “Do you know that love stories have villains right? Somehow, we encountered villains in our story. I was so tired of dealing with them, so my emotions were hardly affected.”
When Xiaojun goes back to his home country, he still visits you despite having his identity as an idol. One time, you spent 3 days with him in a hotel when he went home. Those days were filled with so much happiness. Food trips, movie nights, hot showers, making out, gaming nights – anything you can do. Those nights were more memorable with Xiaojun inside you – moaning your name during cold nights.
Oh, man. And that phase was really hard for you. When Xiaojun started to gain popularity, obsessed fans started to search about him. You were so aware of it. To avoid so much damage, you focused on your studies since you just started college that time. Xiaojun also had less time for you, and he was warned by his manager to avoid focusing on lovelife for the meantime.
“I think I’m gonna cry, teacher. Did you and your prince actually make it until the end?” The kid asked.
“I guess fairy tales will still come to an end, dear. I decided to break up with my prince. We cannot just handle our situation anymore because I think we lost the spark. I still love him, but we need to bid goodbyes because it is also painful.” You explained.
When the two of you decided to see each other again after a few years, it was in the park, late at night, to avoid being caught. Xiaojun explained and begged, asking for you to stay. However, you were so devastated that time, as you were also being attacked by some of his fans who discovered your identity. Xiaojun said that he will do everything to sue them, but the damage has been done. Instead of Xiaojun, wasting his time to fix the mess, you decided to part ways with him. You love him so much that you did not want him to lose his career and dreams.
That night when you broke up with him, Xiaojun kissed you passionately for the last time. It may be hard to accept, but you need to do this. You left him in the park devastated, and heavy rain started to fall that midnight. Xiaojun cried under the heavy rain and you left him with a heart shattered into pieces.
He could be passionate as a musician but he can hardly sing with all his heart when you are out of his life.
“Teacher, I hope your prince is actually doing good despite what happened because you are doing good right now, too.”
“Thank you. I know he is. And I don't even bother him anymore. That is love for me, dear. I will always be happy to see him happy even if he found another castle where he could grow.”
And you’re right, the two of you became very happy despite growing apart. Xiaojun’s career grew as an idol while you are a professional elementary teacher right now. You called it quits since the two of you actually won both of your careers.
“I may not be his princess anymore, but I am happy that he is taking care of someone else right now.” You said, and looked deeply into the kid’s eyes.
“Will you take revenge towards him, teacher? Especially for the villains. They deserve to be punished. ” The kid asked while raising her eyebrows. Again, you were reminded of a familiar person again.
“Uh, no! It is a bad idea to take revenge, dear. We could grow without taking revenge. I won’t let anybody get damaged just because of us. I just know that happiness is my priority right now. So, I hope you can prioritize your happiness too, okay?” You said then smiled.
“I hope I can find my own prince too! But as of now, I am content with my king right now, which is my daddy!” The kid enthusiastically said.
You smiled and hugged the kid, “I am happy for you.”
The kid looked through the window and saw a parked car. It was his dad who is about to pick her up.
“Teacher! That is my dad! I will go home now. But can you join me going outside? I am just afraid to walk in the hallways even if it’s daylight because there are less students already.” The kid said while holding your hand.
Ah yeah, you remembered him being a scaredy cat when there are no people around.
“Sure! Let me fix my things first dear, because I need to go to the principal right now. I will go with you first to the parking lot and then back here in the building.”
“Thank you, teacher!” The kid answered and started to fix her things.
While the two of you are preparing to go, you heard the kid singing My Everything by NCT U. She was singing THOSE lines. The lines you always hear before whenever he sings until you sleep in his arms.
“I didn’t know you could speak Korean?” You asked.
The kid smiled, “My daddy taught me a few words! And I loved his songs. By the way, he is an idol, teacher.”
You nodded, as if you did not know.
You closed the door and held her hands as you walked through the hallways. There were a few kids in the stairs who were actually designing valentine cards too. Some of them handed you cards and your day was even a whole lot brighter.
But you felt even a lot happier after seeing him after a few years, leaning at his car, while looking at the two of you.
You do not even know what to feel. You were happy to see him after a few years, but at the same time, the pain is slightly there.
The kid let go of her hand and ran towards her father.
“Daddy!!” She shouted.
XIAOJUN carried his child and gave her a kiss on her cheek. You were standing a few steps away while looking at them.
“Happy Valentine’s Day, daddy. I made this for you!” She handed Xiaojun a card and they both smiled.
They really look like each other.
“Thanks, baby! This was really beautiful!” Xiaojun answered.
He looked at you.
“Uh, baby, can you go inside the car first? I will just talk to your.. uh.. teacher for a while.”
“Why daddy? Did I do something wrong? Why do you need to talk to her?” The kid asked and pouted. She was Xiaojun’s kid, indeed.
Xiaojun chuckled, “No, baby. I.. I just want to thank her for something. Like, uh, taking care of you. So, can you give us a short time?”
“Of course daddy, but let me hug teacher Y/N first.”
Xiaojun agreed. The kid walked towards you.
“Happy Valentine’s Day teacher, see you tomorrow! Thank you for sharing your stories with me. Can I hug you?”
You knelt down again and smiled, “Thank you, too. Happy Valentine’s Day as well. Of course, you can hug me.”
The two of you hugged and Xiaojun was staring at you.
As you broke the hug, the kid smiled and went inside their car. She became in her own world as her father brought her favorite snacks inside the car.
You stood up and smiled.
The two of you are still standing a few steps away from each other. The school is very quiet, the parking lot is almost empty and you could only hear the chirping sounds of birds. Or maybe your loud heartbeat.
Xiaojun was so gorgeous that day. His well-defined body is still noticeable despite wearing a coat. Even if the two of you aged a little bit, his face still mesmerizes you. The rays of sunshine kiss his angelic face. He was perfect.
Xiaojun spoke after staring at you for a few seconds, “It’s been years, Y/N. It.. it.. it was nice to finally see you again.”
You smiled, “Nice to see you again, too, Xiaojun."
He sighed, “I saw your name in one of Ellie’s notebooks. I was surprised that you became her adviser. At the same time, I’m relieved because I know you will take care of her. I know you’re a safe space for everyone.”
You wanted to blush because of that compliment. Xiaojun knows you that well, given that you were his longtime girlfriend. However, this still feels wrong, so you controlled yourself from showing any emotions.
“Thanks Xiaojun, it is my responsibility to protect my pupils. I will always give them the best.” You answered.
He nodded.
“By the way, Ellie looks like you a lot. You were like, her xerox copy.” You laughed. You made the atmosphere light.
“My genes were so strong.” Xiaojun chuckled.
He put the letter in the pocket of his coat. Xiaojun wanted to do something. To hug you, to get closer to you, to kiss you again, and feel you in his arms again. He wanted to tell you that he still loves you, that he actually cried after rehearsals because he missed you. And if he only knew that he would have this shitty idol life, he would have traded that life just to be with you again. But no, he endured all those pains and tried to move on with his life, even if you were still a big part of him.
On the other hand, your mouth can also hardly release those words. You wanted to feel Xiaojun again, not just physically, but to feel his sweet words again. You want him to sing a lot of songs until you fall asleep, you want him to hold your hand if the world gets harsh, you want to win more plushies from the claw machine with him – you wanted him your whole life. But both of you are stuck, a cold breeze in the daylight touching both of your bodies while the chill caused by the past goes down to your spine.
But Xiaojun was too weak so you saw a tear fall from his eyes. He wiped it.
You spoke, “It’s fine, Xiaojun. I.. I know this moment is kinda unexpected, me being your child’s adviser. I did not expect this to happen too, but I guess life could be humorous right?” You chuckled, yet you felt like you’re crying too. “I was actually thankful seeing Ellie as a sign of you being happy with your life right now. Besides, there’s no need to talk about us right? I will always be thankful for you, even if we did not end up together.”
Xiaojun bit his lip. “I.. I was just happy to see you, I’m sorry if I felt this way.”
“I understand. I know you are strong, Xiaojun. The pain will be gone soon. I have been there. Please love your life like what I did before, okay?” You added.
Xiaojun smiled. “Thank you. You always find the right words to say. I am proud of you Y/N. You are one of the reasons why I became the happiest before. Until now, I still carry that joy with me. Till we meet again my princess.”
You smiled widely, stealing glances to the car and seeing Ellie savoring her favorite snacks. He eats like Xiaojun. What a cute baby.
“Till we meet again, Xiaojun. Take care.”
Xiaojun went inside his car and the two of them waved at you. Eventually, he started the engine while you started to walk towards the principal’s office. That time, you are so unaware that he was still stealing glances at you.
When you broke up with Xiaojun, it was midnight filled with heavy rains – your hearts both filled with sadness and pain.
But right now, it was so much better. You finally saw each other again – in broad daylight, in a day full of sunshine – which is a sign of hope and new beginnings.

As the king swung open the door to the towering structure, the two were greeted by another sudden rush of frigid air. Her eyes scanned the room, meeting the gazes of about a dozen other women. Each of them bore a multitude of emotions, ranging from hope to fear, as they awaited what was to come. Some harbored aspirations of becoming the next queen, while others likely dreaded the prospect of being sent away or be coming a statistic.
Clementine trailed behind Yizhuo, who eagerly rushed over to embrace two other girls dressed similarly. One of them had a radiant smile and hair that cascaded nearly to her waist, while the other possessed doe-like eyes and a friendly demeanor. On the other hand, she couldn't help but marvel at their beauty, understanding why a royal might desire multiple wives. Clem noticed the gleam of satisfaction in the Hendery's eyes as he observed the interaction between the three girls.
“You all should have had time to get to know each other and perhaps even form groups,” the monarch announced, clasping his hands together, the sound reverberating through the hollow space. Yizhuo pulled Clementine hastly by the forearm to stand between her and one of the two girls, but Clementine couldn't shake her confusion about the objective of forming groups.
“This may seem childish to some, but all 15 of you were chosen to play a round of hide and seek,” the king declared. “Play? Do you like to consort with children or something?!” Clementine recognized the voice of the girl who emanated a peculiar odor reminiscent of mildew and horse manure. Her mother had often warned her about such families, skilled only in treachery and husbandry.
“How dare you make such an assumption?!” The king's tone turned rough, causing Clementine and Yizhuo to wince slightly.
“You're making us play this childish game of hide and seek even though some of us came here to become engaged to you!” Spit flew from the raging girl's mouth, Yizhuo clung to her taller friend's side.
“Perhaps if you listened to me, you would understand, you swine!–” some girls gasped perilously loud and murmured upon their companions. “Now silence, ere I'll send you off early.” His threat stood heavy in the air, his eyes were pools of acrimony at this point.
“Fine by me! Hendery, you are nothing but scum!” with a defiant slam of the door, the girl stormed out, leaving behind a shocked silence that was soon shattered by her struggled screams from outside. The girl with the gummy smile made a move out of concern to follow, but the king swiftly brandished his blade, forcing her to recoil in horror; her back pressed against the wall. Yizhuo squeezed Clementine's hand tightly as the blade leaned towards the girl alarmingly, the fear evident in her clammy grip.
“Now you must settle down. The rules are simple: all you have to do is make it out, and if you don't, your destiny is for the gods to decide.” The king nicked the sword at the girl's neck, drawing a thin line but not enough to draw blood; Clementine couldn't help but wonder about his skill with the blade previously.
“Be clever, be expedient, and smart,” he continued, sending a rush of adrenaline coursing through Clementine's veins as she tightened her grip on Yizhuo's hand, her head spinning with confusion and cetera. “Now, you must be on your way.” Yizhuo lead the charge, Clementine found herself nearly falling down the first 5 seconds of the “game”.
“You only have 120 seconds!” The king's words spurred them into action, and they darted off, Clementine's achilles grazing against the leather of the insole of her suffocating boots as they ran.
“Where are we heading?” Clementine gasped between breaths, her heart pounding in her chest.
“Wherever God and Wendy lead us,” Yizhuo replied, her voice trembling as tears streamed down her pale cheeks, her once pristine apron now stained and her plaits were coming undone.
