The main office of the BAU was weirdly quiet this morning. The usual foot traffic past the desks was slow. No urgent cases brought in by JJ and no meetings called to the round table by Prentiss. And with Reid out on special assignment without the spewing of random facts, it was just…calm.

Luke sat at his desk, eyes focused on the BAU chief’s office, where he could see glimpses of Penelope Garcia pacing around back and forth. He fathomed a guess as to why she was called in, head down with an anxious look on her face. The Tyler Fiasco is what he called it.

He had wanted her to look over at him so he could flash her a smile, let her know he was in her corner. He wanted to be the one to take the worried look off of her face.

Luke found himself subconsciously tapping his fingers on the desk while feeing anxious himself. He tried to focus on whatever paperwork he had left to fill out from the last case they got back from.

A few minutes later, after finally working through some of his paperwork he heard the sound of a door being opened. Out of the corner of Luke’s eye he could see the scurrying of a figure making their way out of the bullpen. He knew where she was heading to so he got stood up from his chair and followed suit.

Soon he found himself standing outside of Garcia’s “bat cave” as she calls it. The door is slightly ajar so he takes a moment to knock and push open the door, sticking his head in.

“Hey. Just saw you running out of Prentiss’ office. Everything okay?”

Penelope sighed, just staring at her computer screen, “Look I’m not really in the mood or right state of mind for an ‘I told you so speech’. Especially from you.”

Luke opened the door fully and walked in. He closed the door slightly behind him and pulled out the chair sitting next to her desk. “And to think I came all this way with a 5 page speech ready to scold you,” he teased. She didn’t laugh. “Well that’s something I was definitely not planning on doing.”

“Look, everybody messes up at some point, right?” Luke did his best to console her.

She scoffed and rolled her eyes at him, “Well not you, Mr. I always do everything perfect.” As quickly as she said that she looked over at him and immediately apologized, “I’m sorry, I’m sorry, force of habit.”

A moment of silence passed between them, “Well while we’re at it; maybe we could talk. You know, about how all you can do is apparently “dunk on me”, Luke chuckled.

He could sense the hesitation in her voice, “You know I’ve been thinking a lot about our date over the past, what, 2 years now? And…I guess I’m really sorry. About what I said. I didn’t mean it. You just joined the BAU at the worst time and of course you are just so…delicious looking. Don’t let that go to your head. I just needed a way to keep boundaries. I needed something, some space between us. I just knew it. And now…I just feel like I really screwed up anything between us.”

Luke nodded but didn’t speak.

Garcia looked down, fidgeting with her hands, “It’s really like I lost my head after this whole quarantine. And I just haven’t felt right since.”

Luke put his hand on hers, “I think that happened to just about everyone. But in the meantime maybe we can start over?”

“Yeah?” She asked, a small smile on her lips.

“Yeah. I can wait.”

This scene has taken residency in my head and yet it hasn’t inspire me to write a fic about it. If someone already has written this idea or knows a similar plot line, please share.

So, it takes place after season 16, episode 5 (Oedipus Wrecks). I guess this would be in Season 16, episode 6 (True Conviction).

We get to see that both JJ and Luke made it out of the container before it blew up. Yeah they are dusty, scratched, bruised, but alive.

Everyone spends the majority of the episode angry and more determined to find and stop Sicarius.

Then the end scene is a close up shot of a darkened closed door and we see a man’s hand knocking. After a moment the door opens to reveal Penelope Garcia standing there staring out at her visitor for a couple of seconds before her face crumbles in her despair and her tears fall.

Next shot finally shows her visitor, Luke Alvez, who crosses the threshold and envelopes the distraught Penelope into his arms. They cling desperately to one another; her fisting his shirt as she sobbing against his chest and him holding her tightly, rocking her in a consoling manner as he strokes the back of her head and kiss her hair/temple while he whispers his apologies that he had scared her, and assures her he is really okay. (I think it would be sexier in Spanish). Then he pulls back a bit so he can stare down at her face. He wipes away her tears. He then kisses her passionately on her lips (leaving no doubt in the viewers mind that YES they are in a romantic entanglement), then he pulls her back against his chest as he closes the door. *fade to black … end credits*

Lord, if this happened I would scream louder than I did when he asked her out at the end of season 15.

Now, it’s nearly 4:30 a.m. and I need to get some sleep, I never should have taken that afternoon nap yesterday 😜

The fact that Criminal Minds is getting renewed or revived or whatever is such a testament to how great the actors are, even the one episode actors who are the victims and the murderers. I also love the fact that they didn't make the team have interpersonal drama amongst other members of the team much throughout its run. Though I am looking forward to seeing what happens with Luke and Garcia in this new season!!
