Halfway between Crescent Minoria and Furheart Iiah exists a small island where delicate, faerie-like plants bloom.
Faeriepetal Glimmerinas also exist on continental Crescent Minoria, but they are all but clear with the faintest amount of color. On Fe'ari Island, their appearances is much more like that of a Flyona, but lacking the Flyona family's classic taste in both stem and petal. Their taste remains like that of those on the Crescent Minoria mainland—like glass. However, when the entire plant is boiled down along with the roots, it is used to create a powerful tea, as the mainland variety especially absorbs lunar energy which can only be accessed in edible form by melting and reducing the plant down. Though previously untested, it may be possible that Fe'ari Island Glimmerinas store the potential energy to give the drinker of tea made from it faerie wings.
The Faerin Glowamina is a type of Varia Maria. Whether on the mainland or Fe'ari Island, it tends to grow near Faeriepetal Glimmerinas.
Faehanae Wingrass, like the other two, can sometimes be found on the Crescent Minoria mainland, usually near the coasts. Attempts were previously made to cultivate it on Wing Alayna, but it would seem it prefers its native regions more.
The Orbitania is one of several specimens noted in last year's expedition to Hoshimi Island. From its dark stem color, a hypothesis has been put forth that it may originate from the Flyona line. Other evidence to support this idea is the faintly gummy, licorice-like taste of the stem, a trait which proper Flyona stems have in full. It would seem that other Hoshimi Island flora have a much stronger influence on it than any possible connections to the Flyona line, as its flowers share many of the characteristics of small, creeping vine flowers that were found growing near specimens such as the Spirra Starra, and its fruit bears resemblance to that of a Münlala Spikalif's. As far as the taste of the fruit goes, it was deemed unideal for eating. Like the Münlala's fruit, it proved to be hollow with a light fuzz over top. Light appears to emanate from this skin layer and not the inside, same as its relative's produce. Inside it is a small, dark flower. The fruit can be squeezed to produce water, but isn't particularly flavorful. The yellow petals, however, were noted to have a distinct sour note. The roots have a distinct spicy, radish-like taste when properly washed and prepared, though the upper root layer tends to be more like the stem.
Another one of the flora found on Hoshimi Island, the Münlala's stem and leaf texture is a bit more like a succulent than the other more glass-like stems of other flora found on the island closer to the Crescent Minoria continent. It retains many features suited for a dry climate, perhaps evidencing some influence from the other nearest continent, Koraln Sing, or else potentially Wing Alayna where some of its relatives may be found. It is thought to have some connection to the Omu-omu Plantai due to the similarity of texture between the Münlala's stem/leaves and the bracts of the former. For this reason, it is also thought there could be Münlala with a variety of stem colors including purple, as the Omu-omu Plantai is normally found in purple, but as Hoshimi Island is still newly discovered, there have yet to be any sightings of Münlala with varying stem colors. However, it is quite possible that it could be bred to have a variety of stem colors at the very least, and horticulturists are eager for the chance to prove this hypothesis correct.
As for its glowing fruit, there is still not much known. It is thought to be related to perhaps the Spirra Starra due to the fact they both glow, but their connection is tenuous at best. As samples are sent back to the Queen's Palace in central west Wing Alayna for study, researchers expect to have a better grasp on the properties of this newly discovered flora.
A small flower found to be growing here and there in Wing Alayna. Its center mimics the phases of the moon, growing darker as the moon wanes and brighter as the moon waxes. Its flower is very sensitive to rain, closing up at the slightest hint of it. Part of this has to do with the fruit it grows in its center. Though it starts out soft, it becomes harder and drier as the moon wanes, so it is thought the flower closes up to protect its fruit from unexpected changes in humidity. In sunny weather, the flower takes in heat from the sun and 'cooks' the fruit in its center to a cookie-like consistency. For this reason, Hinamün disks are a beloved treat, especially during the Tea Festival if they can be saved until then, as the Tea Festival begins while the rainy season is in full swing, and Hinamüns are seldom seen that deep into the rainy season.
Rainwater gathers in its small, clear blossoms. The buds within their them glow faint blue at certain times of year. It is said to gather energy from the moon and stars and condense it into liquid form, storing it in the cup formed by its petals.
A close relative of the Radiana Kandia, it can be found on both continental Fuline Ah and Reline Ah, as well as their islands.
These flowers produce heat on their own, and can even be made to ignite by tapping the stamen together. This causes a reaction which stimulates the flower to produce more of its flammable nectar, and in the right environment and with enough flowers, they can even be used to cook food with. The introduction of Fyra Flora into the kitchen revolutionized the way Buddys prepare food, opening up many more options and ushering in the era of culinary science.
Fyra Flora are an introduced flower of uncertain origin. Cultivated in Sky Buddy World and the Palace, they are seldom seen in the wild. Though some have been seen growing near the outskirts of the Great Buddy Forest, as well as in clearings and on the outskirts of Pachimori. In central Wing Alayna they are thought perhaps to be an escaped plant, as they are often brought there for the annual Tea Festival to help prepare food and keep tea warm. However, even then, they tend to revert to seed when the rainy season comes.
Fyra Flora prefer ground water to rain water, which is something to consider when cultivating them. This also seems to explain why the beginning of the rainy season usually marks the disappearance of wild Fyra Flora.
Final flower for this challenge! Seems like my compositions have been shrinking lately. 😅 Ah well, I think my other circle composition did really well two years ago so maybe it will be well-received again? Or does this challenge just not do as well here as on Instagram? So far that's been the vibe. Ahhh... kinda makes me wish it wasn't a garbage platform... Anyways! Onto floral descriptions! Keep reading for more~
Electora Flora
Similar to the Lyta Flora, the Electora flora stores up energy from the sun and gives some of it off at night. The rest it stores in its roots, which can be harvested and used as a power source. Very few know how to do this though, as it requires some technical knowledge. Electora roots are commonly used in the Queen's Palace, as she is one of the few who know how to utilize them.
Day off today so you know what I decided to do... finish up these WIPs I hadn’t posted yet! See last time’s post for Kulikuli Dara’s description. The new descriptions are under the cut (thought I should have done this last time... what do you think? Pointless feature, or actually useful in this case? Lemme know I guess).
Myuzika
A relative of the Sweetflute, the Myuzika plant is similarly used as a sort of homegrown orchestra. The plant makes a different sound according to the color of the pipe, and pitch depends on the size of the bulb, which can be made to change over time by adjusting the plant’s environment (more sun = thinner bulb, more shade = larger one). Tendrils grow taut around the two pipes, allowing them to be strummed like an instrument. The curly tendrils at the base can also be tapped for a shaking sound as the hard berries that grow on them bump against each other. There are many other secrets to adjusting the sound of the Myuzika, but only the forest dwellers know all its secrets. The Myuzika can be found natively in the Great Buddy Forest and made to grow in other forests in Wing Alayna such as the Patchimori Forest, though it grows best in its native soil.
String’elle
Another plant in the sylvan symphonic family, the String’elle’s two base vines will grow in completely opposite directions without the help of the plant’s tendrils, which keep the plant taut in a harp-like shape. The plant can be tuned over time by adjusting various elements of its environment, but without artificial intervention it will keep its original tune, allowing the musician to play the instrument in its original form if so desired.
Yukidamarias
A plant found in the depths of Batulia Songlianne, the continent at JI’s north pole (or Non Pona as it is natively called). It was thought for a long time that nothing grows there aside from the occasional rumor of a Song Tulip (the legendary flower for which the continent is named, though whether the plant actually grows there is somewhat shrouded in mystery), but it would seem that the Yukidamarias does as well. Of course... due to the number of odd things reported there, it’s uncertain at best whether the Yukidamarias was found actually growing in the continent’s soil, or in another dimension’s all together. Nevertheless, dimensional abnormalities aside, it may be safe to say that the legendary flower has company on the mysterious frozen continent. Being a relatively new discovery, not much is known about the plant at this time, though it seems quite decorative.
Koshio Flower
The Koshio Flower can be seen growing only during the dry season of Wing Alayna. It spends most of its time unblossomed, but when it does it produces berries that can be dried and ground to make a spice similar to black pepper. The bits that form on its stamen can also be ground and dried to create a substance similar to salt or pepper depending on its color. The same can be said of the rest of the flower. Dried, the white bits form a salt-like material and the black forms something similar to its berries, though with a slightly different flavor.
