✘ —; For once it seemed the gods were on his side. Upon entering the Crown City, he was bestowed a higher ranking opportunity than he deserved; A kingsglaive who was to guard the Citadel – a role he was extremely grateful to have. Tales of his heroic and daring feats while leading the resistance reached the Queen’s ears and he was given a chance that none of the other refugees escaping Nifiheim’s cruelty got. It was an unwritten rule – to have a young man like him guarding the castle was an insult. The older experienced men would scowl in his direction and yet their tongues remained still as they had to act professional.
At the tender age of 20, Nyx marched with pride in his strides, shoulders proud and his composure disciplined. Completely unwavered by the resentment from the others, he did his job and proved to be the right choice. Quickly, he learned the outline of the entire area as if he had always been there and soon, he was also ordered to drive the Princess around from time to time. The clock struck 11 and the glaive dismissed himself from his post. The divine body in the sky glowed brightly over Insomnia and as he took his time walking the outdoor halls of the castle, he took in the scenery. It reminded him of home almost. Familiar warmth grabbed at his heart.
- But, it still wasn’t the same.
The city was too polluted to mirror the islands of Galahd. It was then he spotted a figure moving about in the dark – strands kissed by the sun was all he caught in a glimpse. Curiosity forced the man from his desire to rush home and very stealthily, he rushed to catch up to whoever it was. Peeking from behind corners, azure irises widened at the realization that it was Princess Lunafreya who was out and about this late at night. ‘What in the world is she doing?’ Eyebrows furrowed with the silent thought. His better senses were telling him to quickly get her and return her back to the living quarters of the citadel.
However, his prying side got the better of him. For more than a few minutes, he would pursue her from afar up until she was going into an area he wasn’t really familiar with.. The grass crunched beneath his feet as he approached. “Finally, I caught up to you, your highness. You've been good at evading your other guards but unfortunately for you, I'm incredibly stubborn." He would half lie. Nyx was completely aware of the tales the other guards and maids would tell of the princess’ cleverness to outwit them. Pausing before her, he studied her expression and it filled him with guilt.
Surely, she had a reason to be out here and he did not want to rob her of the chance. After all, she worked very hard to get up until this point. As long as he was there to keep her safe, there shouldn’t be an issue right? He coached himself just before saying, “"...It's too dangerous for you to be out here alone." He bit back for a second, wondering if he was really going to go through with this crazy idea of his. Being caught with the heir like this could cost him his job. “"So ...you lead and I will follow - wherever you wanna go. Just don't go running off on me again."
The words left him tenderly as a small grin etched across his features. It was too late to turn back now – he chided himself. A slight tilt to the head was given in response toward her reason for coming out this late. A snicker kept to himself as the anxiety that came with worrying if she was going to runaway eased. - Such a simple dream for a girl that could have the world if she wanted. “I see…” An arm was thrown behind his back and his hand placed upon his heart just as he bowed.
“Then, allow me to escort you safely Lady Lunafreya.”
