"glad to know you're aware of how badly you hurt me." araceli nodded her head, an eyebrow still raised as they looked over at naomi. the thing was that they were totally down to give naomi a chance — getting hurt was something that they were scared would happen again if they did. the rejection stung years ago, and araceli would be lying if they admitted that the memory wouldn't be somewhat painful and humiliating now. "i'll be honest: i-i wanna give you the opportunity to show me you've changed, but i'm just... scared you're gonna hurt me now."

“i guess i thought you’d tell me if you were planning on having someone stay the night. that’s all.” it very much was not all, but nonchalance was evette’s forte, even when it was forced. “also, can you take out the trash? It’s pickup day and it’s mostly your takeout boxes in there.”

"jules," emery sighs, figuring she maybe should've expected some sort of pushback. this isn't a decision that she's come to lightly but she stills feels like it's the right one. if she has to explain that to jules then she supposes that's just what she'll have to do until she sees sense. "it's not just pulling the plug. it's being realistic. if we do this for months and it doesn't work then haven't those months just been wasted?"
