Oliver, Aisha, Kenny, and Mac Brandt @ Good Night, and Good Luck (05/11/25)
JOKER: FOLIE A DEUX (2024) Grade: D
I'm not sure what Todd Phillips was going for. The 1st 40 min was just him talking to guards. Very odd script in general. Good DP work is the best part.
After many episodes of the Prison Breaking with Sarah and Paul watch parties, my brain automatically went 'Mac!' when I saw Mac Brandt on screen in Chimney Begins.
9-1-1 Season 5, Ep 12: Boston
I have been torn about this episode (and honestly the next one as well) because I want Maddie and Chimney together again, I want to see Maddie better. But I also knew (assumed) it was going to be deeply emotional.
I was not wrong.
I also didn't think it was possible to hate/despise the Buckleys more... but I do.
And screw the music deciders for their use of Sarah McLachlan, because she reaches into my chest and squeezes.
I love that Chim kept sending photos and videos; always keeping Maddie in mind, loving her, supporting her. It's... everything. Plus the fact that he was in touch with Athena and Bobby - showing he never forgot home.
There was a group call between Chim, Hen and Albert? That is adorable. I also really loved that Eli played such a role in Chimney's life again, giving him a place to stay. But being a friend as well, giving him that push to get back to the living (or at least doing something more than obsessing.) And Chimney the paramedic is so amazing and competent.
I also want to call out how awesome Eli is, best supporting/guest star. Two thumbs up.
My heart was in my throat for their reunion scene, like, really. That was so well done, the two of them (Jennifer Love Hewitt and Kennth Choi) were so good. And it just continued through the bench scene, mygod. The emotions were so deep and each of them had their reasons for their actions, or not wanting to see what was happening. It's such a real life reaction, finding guilt in your own actions, but not seeing the whole picture. I appreciated that Chim mentions really understanding what it cost Maddie to walk away (when Maddie was faced with how big Jee-Yun got).
This episode highlighted the fact that we're watching an adult drama with adult themes. And the writers really are working hard tying it all together. To showcase the pain but also healing that can occur; and in the case of Kira, how hard the struggle is and that sometimes there are several "starting overs" - but keep trying. I was a little giddy with the return of the idea of "fixing" - Case in point, is Chim talking about wanting to fix things, which is a direct tie to Eddie telling Buck that maybe he can't fix Maddie.
It was ultimately so great to see Chim and Maddie together again. I know there's still a road to go, but I do feel like they will inch their way back, because their love is the forever kind.
Hand it off, man. Sorry? You're gonna get hurt in this business. You, me, them. Hell, we all signed up for it, right? We raised our hands and said, "Yes, please," to the burns and the broken bones, the cartoon bruises, two weeks without eyebrows. Right? But you know that's not the hurt I'm talking about.
