Remember that head-canon based Cypher/Nora fic I was writing like, literally 3-4 years ago now? Yeah. Me neither! Good news: the entire fic series including the initial Whumptober prompt that started it + the 2-chaptered fic following from its place have been reposted into a proper series on AO3.

I'd actually tried writing more drafts following but had a lot of difficulty creating a flowing narrative of their day-by-day.

Then I realized... I literally don't have to! So: moving forward, the fic series will be a collection of moments, events, thoughts, and happenings that still follow a chronological narrative, but will have more days and weeks between some story events. I enjoy making it more of a series-update than one fic having a chapter update for whatever reason... It just itches my brain a little bit better, I suppose!

The series will continue to include: profanity, depictions of canon-typical violence, with some occasional less-than-family-friendly chapters. All will be tagged accordingly. Thanks for your patience!

lore thoughts after the previous cinematic...

(These may be incorrect and are open to interpretation; It's just my own understanding and thoughts on things! Please do not take this as law or definite word.)

-It's established that Omen, who previously worked for the same company as Iso, was sent to kill Viper to stunt and/or prevent the studying and mass-release of Radianite. At this time, Viper had been working under Kingdom.

-My guess is: this happened before the First Light. Radianite has been discovered by scientists but is still a very new development and not yet ready for the world at large to have access to. As such, people do not know about it yet, Radiants created by the First Light have not become a commonplace occurrence yet.

-I think at one point it was said the First Light occurred roughly a decade before the creation of the VALORANT protocol (it was retconned iirc? but then not replaced by any other time estimate or amount). Under this train of thought, Omen's "death" is at least a full decade (or at least more than a full decade) before the creation of the protocol and hiring of its members.

-The VALORANT Protocol exists for more than just stopping Earth 2 from taking Radianite; we've seen in other cinematics how the Protocol is already formed by the time Earth 2 becomes a consistent problem. Omen, Sova, Iso, and Cypher's mission here also did not have direct ties or mentions to Earth 2; it was a mostly personal loose end to tie up. To that end: The VALORANT Protocol exists to tackle many of the issues surrounding Radianite, Radiants, and how The First Light may have permanently affected their world and many people looking to take advantage of Radianite or Radiants. With the rise of Earth 2, that has just become another prioritized situation to look into.

-The original cast prior to the addition of any new members is the original lineup of VALORANT Protocol Members; Led by Brimstone, Sage, and Viper, leading Omen, Breach, Cypher, Sova, Jett, Phoenix, Raze, and Reyna being their first new agent. Brimstone, Viper, Omen, and Sage are hinted to have history (especially regarding Omen) prior to VALORANT which likely led to founding it. Exactly how they came to hire the rest is unknown/up to the fandom at this time.

Hi, so. I'm here to discuss some major VALORANT lore updates including the new map, "ABYSS," and some of the lore that's come to life regarding it. As always, this post is a mix of headcanon and my personal interpretation, so please do not take this as absolute law or finalized explanation of everything. This also includes several new emails and voicelines posted today, linked and cited in the post!

For context:

-There is an organization called the Scions of the Hourglass. This organization has previously employed Iso and Omen of the VALORANT protocol prior to their joining. Their work included assassinations--which included the attempted assassination of Viper, to halt and stifle the studying and mass-report of radianite as a material and power source.

-Viper fought back against this, leading to Omen's disfiguration into the current shadow-esque form he holds today.

-Fast-forward to today: Clove, Iso, and Omen lead an infiltration into Abyss; a headquarters of the Scions of the Hourglass. This headquarters includes many secrets kept by the Scions, like artifacts and notes, radianite, and more--they seemed to have a particular interest in radianite itself and radiants.

-Centuries of Radiant history are found within Abyss' caves. Artifacts, mementos, notes, journals, etc. The Scions had been actively stifling Radiant history, the known proof that Radiants have existed for LONG before the First Light, and even going so far as to potentially murder Radiants themselves. Radiants have existed far longer than previously thought to have been, but the Scions were working this entire time to stifle their history, development, and keep them as a relatively oppressed population.

-Understandably so, Reyna is PISSED. And who knows how the other Radiants are feeling?

-(I'll be entirely blunt and say this is more-or-less the systemic oppression and attempted genocide of Radiants as a whole, which is an incredibly sensitive topic in general, but especially during a time like this. I have no idea how deeply Riot plans to delve into this plotline and detailing, but it certainly contradicts my previous understandings of why Radiants were oppressed and came a little out of nowhere for me.)

sorry for the long phases of silence on my end btw. im still very much into valorant, very much been playing the game and getting heavily into the esports scene, ive just been undergoing a lot of writing burnout + major life changes that have pulled me from tumblr for quite some time. but im still alive, still love this game, still keeping up with lore, etc. i'd love to get back into writing soon and reading too, so if you feel like, share some of your fave val fics with me :) (self-plugs/shameless promotions are also encouraged!)
