Like not to be an economist on main but realising that the Tory party handed control of the economy to a bunch of Austrian school weirdos is so shocking I can't even understand how it happened???

Basically in mainstream economics we apply the scientific method, so you have a theory, you test it, gather data and learn from it. but Austrians are like vibes only. They have a theory but because all the evidence says that the theory is wrong...they throw out the scientific method. They're like...creationists. but for really nerdy, almost entirely government level money things.

I get very annoyed about how pop culture and especially Tumblr talks about economics because it's almost entirely wrong or misunderstands what economics is, or sort of assumes that economics flows from economists to the economy, rather than us being more like any other scientist who observe something broadly natural and tries to understand it, but like, the people who have done the mini budget and tanked the pound are not economists? They're politicians who believe that the economy is a plaything they can project their wills onto and they don't believe in evidence. They're idiots.

I feel like I'm going mad. Genuinely I read in the times that truss and kwarteg are Austrian school adherents and my blood ran cold.

honestly, i hate the ending of infamous iron man arc. i know it was rushed because bendis was leaving marvel, but the fact that he became evil again because no one acknowledged his effort and because red hood burnt his face was so hand-wavy.

people need to understand that infamous iron man was not a change of heart, but a change of perspective. at his core, victor is still what he has always been: doing what he thinks is best for humanity, not out of a desire to conquer but for his love of mankind, his belief in doing better and being better. THE DESIRE TO BE BETTER.

being heroic is not a redemption. he was not seeking redemption or recognition. he was retracing his steps and looking at his mission from another angle. if he cannot save mankind by being a genius, a ruler, a tyrant, a king, a god emperor, then being a hero might be the path to take.

that being said, victor's nature is not to let anything steer him away from his path until he can see clearly that it is not working, and even then he MAKES IT WORK. he has been doing good work with cleaning out HYDRA & AIM and rounding up villains, he KNOWS he is not in this for lauds and compliments. the face thing is just pure vanity at this point and a recitation of children's crusade which is one of the arcs i hate the most that involves doom. destroying victor's face to force him back to villainy is lazy writing because as it started, his scars reminds him of his failed attempts to save his mother's life. but cynthia has been liberated from mephisto (and we are not talking about mephisto-cynthia in infamous iron man because it seems like bendis himself didn't even know what he was writing), and victor as infamous iron man is no longer a vain person.

in fact, victor's scarred face should be remembered as one of the obvious good things about him. it represents a romani boy, despite all odds, rose above circumstances and defied the laws of nature just to free his mother.
