Episode fifty three, Crusader. I imagine this is something like what Jonathan Sims would look like if nobody made him go home and sleep
"i may be suspicious of my assistants but im not going to lose them" this might be the nicest jon has been ever
I've been going through tma recently at the request of my girlfriend. She has, on multiple occasions, showed me the Jurgen Leitner rant. I know I'm not very far into it yet (MAG 53), but I'm under the impression he's getting a bad rep.
Like, we're dealing with a setting where people literally get eaten by the sky and evil worms that burrow into people and kill them in minutes. We're dealing with a setting where Fuckhands McMike can banish literally anyone to the Backrooms (and stab Jon??? Because he feels like it?????) and yet we hate Jurgen because he liked literature. ok. I am SURE there's more awful people out there than a silly lil fucked up book collector
Dude just wants a cool library and I support this, even if he's a little messed up. If he got his hands on the Necronomicon I firstly, wouldn't be surprised and secondly, would support him.
But I'm not buying it. Someone in the setting's gotta be worse
Like... Tim? No, Tim's an absolute himbo fuckboy, we can't hate him. Who else? Sasha's been kinda funky and off-putting since Mag 40 but hasn't been evil, Martin's our bestest cinnamon roll boy, and Jon's just a dedicated lil guy who gets beat up because the world hates him for no reason. We just met that new girl, Basira? She's got good vibes and I'd probably kill for Gertrude
Who else is left?? OH, ELIAS. He owns the archives and told off Jon to "not stalk his coworkers" (ok fun police), which is offensive to both me and Jon, so he automatically goes in the "bitch-ass mf" category and I do not like him
Jon's suspicious of him and SO AM I
(I'll reblog this when I get further in with more details, no spoilers please)
TMA What We Know -[53]- Crusader
pre-statement:
GERTRUDE ROBINSON RECORDING!! pLUS! it's taken live from subject!!!
--STATEMENT--
-guy finds an ancient door in Alexandria. behind it there's a whole entire room
-guy goes through a grate in the floor and through a tunnel. as one does.
-finds a whole lot of scrolls
-also finds a corpse. eyeless.
-guy's flashlight goes out but he can still see
-suddenly feels like he's being watched.
-finds Eye Creature and runs away
Gertrude's post-statement:
-guy may or may not have replaced the grate when he left
-now that the guy's inside The Magnus Institute, he feels Watched again
-Gertrude wants to keep this statement off the record and asks the statement giver to lie about why he's here, if anyone at the institute were to ask him.
-Gertrude's been researching old variations of the Archives
-dunno how to interpret this but Gertrude might be implying that the group who attacked the Alexandria archive were associates of The Dark
-spooky eye creature might have formerly been an archivist
post-statement:
-Jon likes this one. also he's worried about what his role as Archivist might be implying, given this statement.
-he recognizes that Gertrude didn't trust the institute and thinks she's probably right about that
-MARTIN'S HERE!!!!!
-he's forcing Jon to eat a good proper healthy lunch
-apparently after Michael stabbed him Jon needed 5 stitches. also he claimed he stabbed himself with a bread knife. do you store breadknives in the archives, Jon? is this secretly a knives archive?
-there was an explosion in the area of the statement shortly after. idk guys I think we're implying Gertrude bombed the place.
I can't believe that the cover story Jon came up with for Michael stabbing him is that he stabbed himself with a bread knife,
SIR, you live in London, just say you got mugged.
MAG 53 “Crusader” review:
It’s a Gertrude! The second one we’ve heard if i remember correctly. I’m gonna be honest it was really difficult for me to listen to this. I listened to it once a couple weeks ago while playing final fantasy, and my fuzzy brain didn’t absorb anything. Listened to it a second time today while drawing, and I just barely understood everything. So this was way back in the 1940s, but this mysterious archive is hundreds of years more old. And a strange mummy possible archivist. My brain is still fuzzy and I feel like shit so I’m not gonna do my usual 2 minute mental thoughts on this. I like the episode, the main guy sounded a bit nerdy.
I’ll rate this a 5.5 glints in the desert out of 10 warped screaming skulls. Would die of a stroke again.
Statement ends.
h….he invited jon to get a sandwich with him 🥺🥺🥺🥺
The recordings of Gertrude Robinson are interesting, in as it shines through that she has a wealth of knowledge about the paranormal, it seems that she does know what she's talking about. Of course, she has been the Head Archivist for a very long time. And this part about how there's always an Archivist is veeery intriguing.
