Hawke x Meredith 💚

so i finished da2 last night (after the Legacy DLC would not work several times, but I got there in the end). (seriously, i got stuck in the after scene back at hawke's manor like three times and had to fight Corypheus like 5 times. annoying.)
and what i had never really realized on my previous playthrough (which, tbh, was a run through to get to inquisition so I really missed a lot of content previously. or maybe i didnt, and that's my memory being shit for ya) was how trying to find a compromise/not taking a stand until the end was ultimately forced.
yes, i have "if you stand for nothing, Burr, what'll you fall for?" playing in my head rn.
and while my mage!Hawke had no love for the templars (save Carver), I had him choosing the middle path because of the threat Meredith could be on his life (and my doyalist explanation was I wanted to see what would happen/not make Fenris mad at him).
like nothing would have changed if he had sided with the mages earlier, ofc because it's a video game, but while yes, Hawke eventually did side with them and everything that happened culminated in the mage-templar war, he's still very complicit for not using his influence to help more. ofc he did help individuals, but never the systemic level change that Anders was after. Not that he really could without sacrificing everything, and hawke isn't really the person to do that - Anders is.
so all in all, this (probably barely coherent) post is about how my Hawke really mirrors Elthina, the Grand Cleric, who also tried to keep her neutrality but was more on the side of the Chantry, and thus the templars, than Hawke.
Hilarious photo with our bigass tv but !!!!! I AM FINALLY REPLAYING DA2 AND MY HEART IS SO FULL MAGE GARRETT HAWKE BELOVED
Kickass dwarf-supported acrobatics with mage!Hawke? In my Kirkwall?
It's more likely than Varric makes it out to be.
(actually, it's just that Cassandra wouldn't believe him)

closeup bc hell yeah:
so i'm nearly finished with my first playthrough of da2 (10/10 game) but can someone please explain to me how the everloving FUCK mage!hawke manages to avoid the templars? i get that maybe becoming champion allows them more leeway but before that?? especially in act 2 when they're becoming increasingly more well-known. you're telling me not a single templar cares that there's an apostate mage running around kirkwall, opening using magic?
Hawke: Well, at least nobody got killed or sent to the circle today, I call that a win!
Carver: For the last time, avoiding being killed or caught by the Templars is not an achievement!
I trained these guys up in Pokémon Crystal. They're the best power couple this side of Mt. Silver.
