Pendulum Readings

I just reached another follower hundred, and I want to open readings again to thank you all as well as to practice magick. The aura readings were unfortunately too demanding in energy and too hard to do on anon, so this time I have decided to open pendulum readings.

Rules:

Questions must be formulated as this or that (e.g. yes or no, blue or black, act or don’t act, 9 or 12, etc.)

Must be sent to the ask box.

Nothing will be answered privately. Anonymous questions are available and you can ask me to tag any blog. This is so I can keep better track of my work and for future askers to have examples.

Maximum of 5 questions per ask.

When asking about someone, give me name, initials or something to identify them with (e.g. Samantha, H.P., the blond one, my mother, etc.) A name is preferred but I understand it is not always possible.

Do not send me multiple times the same ask. However, if you want to confirm if I have received your ask feel free to do so, Tumblr has a tendency to eat asks.

I have the right not to answer. If something makes me uncomfortable I will not answer it and I do not have to give my reasons if I do not desire to, I will not decline asks for the hell of it.

Asks will be done in the order they are received.

Ahhhhh it's here!!! My copy of Grovedaughter Witchery finally arrived!! Today was also the spring garden festival at the local botanic gardens, so I picked up some new babies. Lemon Balm and peppermint to keep indoors so the squirrels don't eat them. Spring is here truly!

Been reading through @breelandwalker‘s book, getting good ideas and exploring some new tools a bit from the book. Very much enjoying it. I’ll do a better write-up later, once I feel a bit more like I’ve gotten a more thorough understanding of the book (I’m not exactly reading it cover-to-cover, but flipping around through it a bit). But definitely putting this one into my go-to witchy-reference books.

Story Magic

I’ve been thinking about this a lot lately. If you follow this blog at all, you probably know that I adore Terry Pratchett’s Discworld series, particularly the Witches books (Granny, Nanny, and Tiffany are the best!). Anyway, one of the main themes of several of the books is the power that stories have, not just over our minds, but sometimes over our lives. The ways a powerful enough Story can actually change the course of our lives if we get caught up in it. 

I’m also a writer, so a lot of how I communicate is through stories. And because it’s so important to me, I’ve often been trying to find ways to incorporate writing into my witchcraft. So all this got me thinking, about how to turn a story into a sort of spell. Or turn a spell into a story. 

Either way, crafting the story around your intention would be the first step. Then you have to shape the story properly, i.e. edit it all while keeping your intention for the magic in the forefront of your mind. Finally, the story itself would need to be engaging and well-written enough to spark the imaginations of readers, and find more readers. Because that’s where the power of stories comes from, the belief of the readers. Stories, if they get big enough, can change the way we see the world. 

This is not a type of magic I think is simple, or always reliable (unless you’re already a big-name professional author perhaps). Nor is this something to address short-term problems. Writing takes time, and it can only be rushed so much, especially if the idea is to get the story out there into the public consciousness. This is also a sort of magic designed for big, more public problems, though you could incorporate smaller personal problems into it as well. But it’s definitely one I’m going to be exploring a little bit. I’ve already started a story (and now I just gotta get it all WRITTEN. Grr. This is where the hardest part comes in, sustaining the effort long enough to finish even a short story). I’m still deciding if it feels like the intention needs to be built in from the first word on the page, or if you can repurpose older stories through intention and work toward a more focused magical goal.

What a beautiful name you’ve chosen, I used to have a semi pet crow, it used to feed from my garden but never really ran away from me if I was out there, I used to collect snails for it and fed it a few times from my hand, sadly it used to eat all my frogs but I haven’t seen it for a long while and supposed it’s passed away, such a shame but a blessing while we had some time together.

Anyway good news for your reading I got Yes for both of your questions from my pendulum.

So, I signed up for a free trial of Kindle Unlimited, and one of the first books I found was this one, The Way of the Hedge Witch by Arin Murphy-Hiscock. So far it's interesting, though I would classify it as more about hearth witchery than hedge witchery. But I'm only a few pages in so far.

Witchy Reference Books!

For Herbs: I use a mixture of The Herb Book by John Lust, The Master Book of Herbalism by Paul Beyerl, and Magic and Medicine of Plants published by Reader’s Digest. 

For General Reference: I use Herbal Recipes for Vibrant Health by Rosemary Gladstar, and Mrs. B’s Guide to Household Witchcraft by Kris Bradley

For Cooking: I use a mixture of favorite cook-books, and amend the recipes as needed for magical workings. My favorite is actually a private cookbook used by all the women in my family for several generations now. But I use others too. Really any cookbook can be turned magical with some basic food correspondences (I have a post here, some of which is based on Bubble, Bubble, Toil &Trouble – Mystical Munchies, Prophetic Potions, Sexy Servings, and Other Witchy Dishes by Patricia Telesco)

Books I liked But Don’t Own: Garden Witch’s Herbal by Ellen Dugan, Garden Witchery, Magick from the Ground Up by Ellen Dugan, Cunningham’s Encyclopedia of Magical Herbs by Scott Cunningham

Books on my To Be Read List Because They’ve Been Recommended to Me or I Like the Author: First, The Witches Cupboard and The Sisters’ Grimmoire by Bree Nicgarran and Anna Zollinger because I love Bree’s blog here, and found it amazingly helpful ( @breelandwalker). Also, Encyclopedia of 5000 Spells and The Element Encyclopedia of 1000 Spells by Judika Illes, and The Way of the Green Witch by Arin Murphy-Hisock.

I’m not sure how good any of those last are, but they’ve been recommended many times by people whose opinions I respect, and they’ve seemed to fit what I was looking for, so I put them on here. Also, some of the others listed may have some religious stuff in it, but it’s easier to ignore because they’re geared more toward encyclopedia or dictionary style reference.
