Hi Erica! I'm Dani and I'm going to attend KCAI this fall and I was wondering if you had any tips or advice on being a freshman at art school?
Unfortunately, no! I transferred in straight to the animation department as a sophomore, so I didn’t end up having the freshman experience, haha. However I am sitting in a room with 4 of my friends who DID, and here’s what they say:1. Don’t buy the kit that they tell you to buy, it’s not worth it. Just buy whatever materials you need as you need them. 2. Find the teachers you connect with and that support what you want to do, because different teachers are more invested in specific departments/degrees, so if you can find one that you click with, seek them out! (Same way you would with friends!)3. Don’t get overwhelmed by bullshit classes and just do what you need to do. Your time there is what you make of it, so try to maximize your time to focus on what you want. 4. Take everything as a learning experience. You might love some of it, you might hate some of it, but it’s all what you make of it. Once you get into your major you’ll probably feel a lot more at home and comfortable with yourself and your work!Hope that helps!! Good luck!
