I think I’ve talked about this a bit before, but I actually sort of headcanon Thor at the start of Thor 1, being at a stage in his life where his family is actually less a part of his social circle. Like, he still loves them all deeply and cares about their opinion of him, but he’s actually becoming more outwardly oriented, deriving a sense of validation from friends, the people, etc. This sort of contrasts with Loki who is still deriving a good deal of his sense of identity and validation from family dynamics, and is so shattered when something challenges that.
With Thor, he was sort of drifting...not exactly away from them, because I think they were going to still be an important part of his life, but I think he was just looking more outward. Which of course, then hurts more as he loses them one by one, a more slow loss of his family than Loki’s sudden shattering.
