Meant to contribute to the MaiAang week earlier in the year, but failed spectacularly. So I’m here for the Mai week! AU!Runaway Mai

Everything is the same, but... The Gaang and Azula arrive late to Omashu, Bumi retrieves Omashu after making them believe they won, Mai manages to escape the battle badly injured and with Tom-Tom in her arms.

While trying to go to the nearest colony to be safe, she is ambushed by Jet and the Rebels. With injuries and a child in her arms, she decides to lie to them and make them believe that she betrayed the Fire Nation. She receives their help and ends up joining the team, and spending time with them and seeing the ravages of war... Did she really lie?

Mai Week 2022: Rules, Prompts, and FAQ

Thank you everyone for your prompt suggestions! The prompts have been chosen for Mai Week 2022, which will run Monday, October 3 - Friday, October 7. Every day will have two prompts for you to choose from, and there are two additional bonus prompts to swap in on any day.

This post is intended to serve as a masterpost for the entire event. It will include the dates, prompts, rules, and a FAQ! Make sure to click the read more to get ALL the information!

Rules

All works must focus on Mai! Any and all ships are allowed, as long as the ship with Mai is at the forefront. You are also welcome to create general, non-ship content for her.

Any and all gender/sexuality headcanons are allowed! And no ship-bashing, please. 

There are 2 prompts for each day. You can choose one or both of them to inspire your work. There are also 2 bonus prompts for you to use on any of the days. If none of the prompts speak to you, feel free to create your own Mai content. The prompts are meant to promote creativity, not restrict it!

NSFW/Mature content is allowed, as long as you tag everything appropriately. So on tumblr, that means following their guidelines for NSFW images. On AO3, that means giving your fic the appropriate rating and tags.

Any kind of creative content is allowed! Fanfiction, fanart, edits, playlists, headcanons, moodboards, ANYTHING!

If you create a visual piece, such as fanart or an edit, please add an image ID, either in the alt text or under the picture itself.

How do I participate in Mai Week?

Create your content and post it on tumblr. If you post on AO3, make sure to share the link on tumblr. Also make sure to add it to the Mai Week AO3 collection, which will be posted about later. Tag this blog in the main body of your post (@maiweek). In the tags, tag “mai week."

If we don’t reblog your post within 24 hours, feel free to send us a message with the link! I’m sure we all know how unreliable the tumblr tagging system is, we would never intentionally not reblog someone’s post!

If I’m not a creator, how can I support Mai Week?

The best way to support content creators leading up to and during Mai Week is to let them know you support them! Reblog and comment on their work, send Mai content into this blog for us to post, etc. We’ll be reblogging Mai content from now up until the week itself. Supporting that work now will encourage creators for the event week itself.

People keep telling Mai to express herself. She decided to try it!

It was supposed to be posted yesterday, but I just finished it. I tried watercolor. There is a lot to improve there!

Mai isn’t stupid. As often as Zuko’s advisors might like to insinuate when she speaks up during meetings or servants might whisper out of petty jealousy or in mocking — she’s not.

Her shoes click as she walks and the sound functions like a warning, for anyone smart enough to realize gossiping in front of the subject of conversation is dangerous. And yet, the promise of her wrath doesn’t dissuade anyone.

While traversing the halls she’s learned to ignore the murmurings of passing servants whispering to each other. She’s tried glaring and promising retribution when a dirty look didn’t suffice but the rumors persist even through the firing and hiring of new people.

No matter how hard she tries though, she can’t seem to help catching on her own name when it comes up, or Zuko’s. Or Aang’s.

Mai has heard it all and yet it still startles her when they murmur, “The poor Firelady, certainly she can’t have any idea what’s happening!”

Mai isn’t stupid nor pitiful. Though plenty of the staff seems to think so.

It’s why she comes here.

It's a combination of things, tbh. Those volcanic snails just sort of seemed like the exact sort of pet Mai would love, and someone posted in the discord a dress that just screamed Mai, so here we are. Vampire!Mai rocking an incredible dress and showing her pet some love.
