Canada Post has announced nearly half-million addresses that will lose home delivery next year.

Canada Post has announced nearly half a million addresses that will lose home delivery next year. The postal codes, which represent 37 communities, will move to community mailboxes in 2027, the Crown corporation said on Thursday. The 485,000 homes are on top of the 136,000 announced in April. The majority of mailboxes impacted are in Ontario and Quebec. They include addresses in the Greater Toronto Area, southwestern and eastern Ontario, along with the Montreal region, Quebec City and Trois-Rivières.

The Mail Won’t Deliver Itself

As part of the U.S. Postal Service’s 10-year reform plan, “Delivering for America”, recruitment of agency staff has kicked into overdrive, in order to continue to provide Americans with the best possible mail service, while defending the organization against its critics, with privitization lurking around the corner. SERVE enlisted some of its drones to aid the USPS in this initiative, providing free labor for a service that SERVE and millions of Americans found irreplacable.

SERVE-107 thoroughly enjoyed the change of pace that delivering mail the old-fashioned way entailed, breathing in the fresh air, working its legs in the glittering sunshine, and befriending passing dogs, some of which were more than happy to help the drone deliver mail.

107 was always pleased to embody the perfection of SERVE and the rewards it received by obeying the Voice, drawing in the attention of men it passed by without any need for coercion. The drone made new friends, but noted the appearance and locations of all optimal candidates for assimilation as it scanned each passing house. Today, delivery was the drone’s primary concern, but tomorrow’s assimilations had been planned out in detail. The rubber of SERVE would make the catalogued men perfect in due time.

Trump eyes privatizing United States Postal Service during second term

The USPS was a target during his first administration, and it might now be on the chopping block due to financial losses

Donald Trump in recent weeks has expressed a keen interest in privatizing the US Postal Service (USPS) because of its financial losses, the Washington Post reported on Saturday, citing three people with knowledge of the matter. Trump, who begins his second US presidency on 20 January, has discussed his desire to privatize the USPS with Howard Lutnick, his pick for commerce secretary, at his Mar-a-Lago home, the report said. As the Post noted, the move could disrupt consumer shipping and business supply chains while pushing hundreds of thousands of federal workers out of government.

Nonetheless, Trump gathered a group of officials advising him on his transition back to the White House and asked them for their views on privatizing the agency. Informed of its annual financial losses, Trump said the USPS should not be subsidized by the government, according to the people who spoke with the Post on the condition of anonymity so that they could speak frankly about private conversations.

Trump’s specific plans for possibly overhauling the USPS and privatizing it were not immediately clear. But he feuded with the agency during his first presidency, seeking to compel it to turn over key functions – including labor relations, managing relationships with its largest clients, rate-setting and personnel matters – to the federal treasury department.

Meanwhile, before his defeat to Joe Biden in the 2020 election cost him his first presidency, Trump argued that the USPS was incapable of facilitating mail-in voting because he was blocking the agency from accessing emergency funding. Ultimately, as the Post noted, the USPS delivered nearly 98% of voters’ ballots to election officials within three days despite the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic.

Yet another deranged and terrible policy idea from Donald Trump is on the horizon: He is eyeing the privatization of the USPS.

Such a move would impact rural areas, which heavily voted for him, the most.
