Turnaround of Cleo. For a cut-out animation style (with Toonboom Harmony). The most used pose would be the 3 quarter view so it is important to have a nice face for this pose. BUT it is in this case more of a 1/8 than a 3/4 so I added a real 3q for a smoother rotation, to help animators. Many sequences were animated “traditionally” not using the puppet build. The 3q front view is the most used view of the characters and is really close to the front view so it is appealing: the nose (if long) wont hide the eye for example). Hands are very important for character design as we will see them a lot on screen. Story board artists use hands/arms gesture a lot in the characters’ acting to translate a feeling, or enhance a joke with a body language. Hands, and shoulders, are great addition to facial expressions. I drew my first hands chart for #gormiti then added more poses for #baskup #basketeers. Since then, I always use the same poses that I adapt to the show style. Turnaround of Brian. It is important to not hide the line/curve of the back in the profile view so you can draw it in transparency/see through ; or simply detach the arm. Don’t forget to draw the shoes’ bottom view too! A blink and open mouth poses are also necessary but on Cleo, we did that on another technical sheet: the lipsync/mouth chart.
