EMERGENCY POST
We need your help, folks. Donations are drying up and support is dwindling. We have until Tuesday morning to raise motel rent or Mom and I will be on the street living in the car with our pets and Dad will have to go to a nursing home that I absolutely do not trust to take care of him and keep him safe. ANY and EVERY amount helps, even a dollar at a time adds up quickly and helps us get by. Please consider helping us out if you can afford anything at all, or at least reposting and sharing this. More eyes on our situation means more chances someone who can help will see it. Thanks for everything, folks. Much love. Always. -Austin

Just checking... 👀
Snow was already dusting the roof of Luke’s Diner by the time the Thanksgiving dishes were cleared.
In the four years since Lorelai and Luke had tied the knot, holidays in Stars Hollow had settled into a comfortable rhythm. But this year was heavier. News of Rory’s pregnancy had rippled through town months ago, closely followed by Logan’s total vanishing act. True to form, when faced with real accountability, Logan had retreated into his family’s fortune, leaving Rory to navigate her new reality alone.
Jess stood out on the back porch, collar turned up against the November chill. He was in town for the holiday—an unavoidable side effect of Luke and Lorelai’s marriage that now placed him and Rory at the same family table for every major holiday.
The back door clicked open. Rory pulled her coat tighter around her bump, leaning against the wooden railing beside him.
"It's cold," she said softly.
"Keeps you awake," Jess replied, glancing over. His eyes held none of the hesitant pity she’d seen from everyone else. "Luke tells me you've been drafting a new series for the Post."
"Trying to," Rory sighed. "My head’s everywhere except on the page. I feel like I've completely stalled."
"You haven't stalled," Jess said directly, cutting straight through her self-doubt. "You’re just in the middle of the story. I read the draft Luke left on the counter. It’s brilliant, Rory. It just needs an editor who isn't afraid to tell you when you're overthinking."
Rory let out a genuine laugh. "Is that an offer?"
"It’s a fact." Jess paused, the casual posture dropping as he met her eyes. "I know how the story goes around here. I watched Luke wait a decade for your mom. I watched Christopher walk out when things got real. And I know what it feels like to grow up with an absent dad."
Rory caught her breath.
"I told you years ago that I knew you better than anyone," Jess continued, his voice steady and resolute. "Back then, we weren't ready. But I’m done waiting on the sidelines. I am more than ready now. I’m in, Rory. Completely. For you, and for this kid."
For months, Rory had felt like she was treading water. Looking at Jess—the one person who had evolved into the most grounded, reliable constant in her life—the weight in her chest finally dissolved.
"You're crazy, you know that?" she whispered, smiling through a tear.
"Probably," Jess smirked, stepping closer. "So... do we have a deal?"
Rory reached out, taking his hand. "We have a deal."
Nine months later, sun streamed through the windows of a Brooklyn flat.
Stacks of books lined the built-in shelves, surrounding a desk covered in galley proofs and Rory’s latest published headline—a piece pushed to perfection with Jess’s editorial eye.
In the living room, Jess sat on the rug, balancing their new baby girl on his knee while keeping a watchful eye on her dark-eyed toddler brother stacking blocks beside them. When Rory walked in with two mugs of tea, Jess looked up, completely at home.
They kept the Stars Hollow house for weekends with Luke and Lorelai, but here in New York, with two kids, a thriving career, and an unbreakable life together, the cycle of absent fathers was officially broken. They had finally gotten it right.
