Music in Witchcraft
Hey @wakingwitchblr! For #WWmakingmonday, I wanted to share my experience with blending music and magic, as music is its own form of art!
As a musician and a witch, I use music in many parts of my craft. I wanted to specifically share how I blend music and meditation, and use music to cast spells.
When working with energy, meditation and control over your own energy and those around you is exceedingly important. Music is an exceedingly charged medium to work with, as it connects deeply with the soul and the emotions. Music on its own can lift your spirits, move you to tears, calm you, or energize you. That’s why it can be easily used for personal magic. When meditating, I use music to either calm myself or energize myself. Playing gentle classical music can relax the mind, and gently lead one into the meditative state, deepening the meditation. On the other hand, I will also play certain EDM music, usually without or with minimal lyrics in order to energize my meditation, and work with the energy of the music specifically.
EDM, with a strong beat and rhythmically based melody, has easy energies to tap into and utilize. Before casting a high energy spell, it can be used to strengthen one’s personal energies, and can be drawn upon to strengthen the spell. I begin by meditating, slowly raising the volume of the music I want to draw upon. When I have gathered enough energy, I can then cast the spell, using the music’s energy.
In addition to music created by others, you can play music yourself if you happen to be talented with an instrument or singing. As a vocalist, I will often cast spells by writing them as music, and singing the lyrics as I cast. I believe this adds energy to the spell through the additional energy of the music.
This is just a short post on my personal practice, but hopefully you all like it!
