The knowledge of random facts from the archives did come in handy later on for Malglanaer: Drafted into service, he was not good for more than being a footsoldier once the army stepped off the ships that sailed up the river. However, during his service on the ship a member of the healers' company discovered his knowledge of herb-lore and medical theory and offered to take him on as an apprentice. This probably saved him from being cannon fodder and dying in his first battle.
