The fluorescent lights flickered overhead as Kanyon navigated the grocery store aisles, the rhythmic hum of coolers and distant chatter forming the backdrop to his mundane errand. Absorbed in the routine of selecting produce, he was caught off guard when a voice reached his ears.

He turned, and there, in the aisle, stood Mallory – Haven's sister. His eyes widened as recognition settled in, and Kanyon felt the weight of history in that moment.

The last time he had seen Mallory, it was a different lifetime. Eleven years had passed since he made the choice to leave, to walk away from Haven and their shared past. The air between them held a tense silence, the unspoken years echoing in the awkward pause that followed. Mallory's expression held a mix of emotions, and Kanyon braced himself for whatever words might come next. "Hey!"

It was crazy how things changed so fast. Few weeks ago, Mallory wouldn’t call any of them friends, even less family. Her family was Kane, and he wasn’t there anymore, she had no family. Or so she thought. Yet, sitting on the edge of the abandoned truck while chewing her meat, Mallory never felt so good. Never felt less lonely than now. Even if her parents turned out to be evil persons and with nothing but what they have on. Mallory could try to deny it all she wants, but the Runaways were her family and she would protect her family at any cost.
