Obsessed with this teen parent/runaway AU concept that I'm somehow stuck on, so it goes here now ~

Teeny thirteen year old Bruce has to live with the Kanes (Phillip specifically) because he can't stay with Alfred, he doesn't count as a guardian when he has blood family. Phillip Kane is ass, naturally (as part of the Red Hood), and Kate Kane (best cousin ever) helps him break out and run away.

He camps out in what will eventually become Crime Alley, in this little underground boiler room of some apartment building's basement. He figures that he's constantly there in his dreams anyway, what's being there while he's awake too?

The last of the remaining Waynes going missing is sensationalized to all hell, obviously — so he stays in hiding, uses fake names, never tells anyone who he is. Just in case. He doesn't want to go back — Kate keeps in touch, there's nobody else in that world left for him.

He stays friends with Harvey, meets Selina (already an up-and-coming jewelry thief), and fellow runaway Talia. Bruce and Talia stick together for a few years until she vanishes, and then she reappears months later to leave Damian with him before she goes again.

(Bruce misses her, but he has no complaints — he doesn't want to admit it, but he really just wants a family again)

He breaks an eight year old Dick Grayson out of juvie too because there's no way the mob isn't coming for him, not after becoming the star witness of a murder case aimed at Tony Zucco. Bruce promises to help find Zucco — he remembers how bad it was when Joe Chill slipped away.

They leave Zucco on top of the GCPD's building. Dick asks him why he trusts this one cop (Detective Jim Gordon) when he's always saying that you can't trust cops. Bruce doesn't give him a definitive answer.

(Gordon was the first cop to get to the alley.)

Winter rolls around, and there's this kid stealing tires off some thug's car. Says his name's Jay, that he's fine and that he can handle the cold just fine, no thanks, he doesn't need help from anybody.

Bruce leaves the boiler room door unlocked, and Jason's snuck inside by 2am. Damian loves him.

Turns out, Zucco and his mob didn't forget Dick Grayson. An assassin gets sent.

A tiny assassin, not much older than Jason. She freezes up once she finds them and can't go through with it. Jason gives her the name Cassandra after a character in a book he's reading.

Now, there's five of them. Six when Harvey visits (after his dad throws him out again), seven when Selina stops by for breakfast after a heist. Eight when Talia comes back to see them for Damian's second birthday — she adores Cassandra and Jason, and Dick hates her guts.

(Dick says he likes the nice writer boy that visited Gotham for a 'school field trip' much better, who said his name was Clark and talked like he was a cowboy. Clark clapped for his somersaults, and Dick insisted they keep him.)

They're happy for a while. And then the news breaks.

Bruce recognises Tim Drake when he sees him, looking around the newly named Crime Alley in the middle of the night. Tim says he knows who Bruce is, and that Joe Chill's been caught. Arrested for something else, something minor. Bruce deflects, asks where on earth Tim's parents are.

"Cambodia," Tim says, unconcerned. Now there's six of them in the boiler room. He gets on with the others, and doesn't mention a word about the lives he and Bruce come from. Only half of him appreciates the secrecy. The other half feels guilty for lying.

Bruce is coming home early one morning with breakfast, and there's two more people waiting for him. An old man and a red head — Kate, and Alfred, who he hadn't seen since the night after his parents died. For a second it feels like coming home again, before the realisation sets in.

It comes in threes.

Joe Chill is sitting in prison, awaiting trial — the Wayne murders is a cold case, but he could still be charged with enough evidence, and eye witness testimony would do it. He could go to prison for life, never hurt anyone again.

Bruce Wayne has been a missing person for nearly six years. Missing persons are declared probably dead at six years.

His eighteenth birthday is in a few weeks, too — if he's not 'found' and considered dead, everything his parents had left him goes to Phillip Kane instead.

Their house, their company, everything goes to Phillip Kane unless Bruce Wayne is found. Kate insists that was his plan from the start.

But going forward, being 'found', would mean losing the family he has now. Selina and Jason might not speak to him again, Talia might come back for Damian. Tim goes back to his family, his own empty house. He doesn't know what would happen to Dick and Cass — they could die, be vanished away, assassinated.

Kate goes to meet them. Bruce hides away in the clocktower for hours to scream his lungs out.

I imagine it's Dick that manages to track him down and find him in the tower. I don't know how the confrontation would go — I think Selina and Talia would have already figured him out years ago, but Jason might not take the lying part well. Dick would insist he go bring Joe Chill to justice, it's a sore spot for him too, he'd drag Bruce to the courthouse himself if he could.

And afterwards, Bruce brings them back to the mansion, his parents house. Alfred and Kate go with them, Talia visits, Selina stops by to look at the paintings (completely innocent with no other intentions, of course), and Harvey comes by like he used to when they were younger kids.

They visit the cave, too. Just in case.

The letter had come on a Wednesday, a day as ordinary as any other since... Since.

The envelope was perfectly ordinary, except for their address was printed on a label rather than on the envelope directly.

There was no return address. No company name.

No sign of what he'd find inside.

Handwriting he recognised from hours pouring over his son's playbooks and nutrition logbooks.

I'm sorry I didn't say goodbye. I was just tired, and I wanted to be happy. And I didn't think I could do that as Shane Hollander, Hockey legend.

So- you have everything of his. The playbooks, the trophies, the memorabilia and the library. And I took everything that's important to me.

I know you both gave up a lot, for me to reach the league. But I had to give up a lot too, and these last few years the thought of everything I've given up, to make Shane Hollander someone who can be tolerated by the hockey industry, by the fans and the sponsors and the players, has made me miserable.

I used to love playing. Even after the draft, I had days when I was thrilled to play the game I devoted my life to. But I haven't felt like that in a long time. I'm tired of it. I hate it. I hated it so much, I hated pretending I didn't. I hated being Shane Hollander.

And now I don't have to be. I can stop hating my life. I can be happy.

I hope you can be happy for me. If you can't- at least you have Shane Hollander's legacy. Thank you for everything.

everyone in town knows Ira and Ben. Well, the town is small so most people know each other but Ira and Ben have become a bit of a staple over the last few years.

Handsome men, married. Ira was clearly from Russia but Ben might be as well considering they speak the language to each other often. They’re both incredibly active and often beat up the old hiking trails. They’re happy and in love and all together nice people to be around.

Ben kept to himself at first while Ira is a bit more gregarious but he’s settled into himself after taking ownership of Sven Larsen’s old shop. Meanwhile Ira coaches nearly every kids sports team.

No one really presses but…..

Theres a kid in town. A young girl who’s incredibly smart and she doesn’t have the funds to travel for school. Least she didn’t til Ira and Ben quietly invited the family over and asked to make a scholarship for her. All expenses covered. Like it wasn’t even a thought.

They were at the legion once playing a drinking game. Take a shot for every town they visit. Ira and Ben got absolutely shit faced. Most people have never left village and these men have been nearly everywhere.

Y’know it’s funny. If you asked I think most people couldn’t even tell you their last names or where they really came from. I guess it doesn’t really matter though. They’re good people. Kind. They walk their dog down Main Street and Ira is making jokes while Ben laughs loudly and then for a second looks almost shocked. Like he isn’t used to joy.

runaways: once upon a time

Intro for the runaways au comic! This won't be colored and will follow a monochrome format.

Two unlikely objects end up alone in the pouring way, their friends being a shell of what they once where. Thankfully, there's hope in the underground.

I can't stop thinking about AU where Link and Mipha have to live in hiding after running away to elope, so here's a sketch of them in the sort of disguise they'd wear when going into town for supplies or smth

their cover story is that they are traveling merchants who lost their home to the Calamity 😔

not pictured, but in my head Link grows a beard and cuts his hair short so he can remove his face covering a lot of the time and not be recognized.

poor Mipha has to cover up almost every inch when they go into town 😢
