Mum's Malaria
Every year 125 million pregnant women around the world are at risk of becoming infected with the malaria parasite. Catching malaria while pregnant increases the chances of premature birth, slow growth and other health problems for the baby, or even loss of the pregnancy altogether. In fact, a shocking 200,000 infant deaths every year can be blamed on malaria. By studying pregnant mice, researchers have discovered that malaria parasites cause more blood vessels to grow in the developing pup's brain – shown in the micro-CT scan image on the right compared to a pup from an uninfected mother on the left. In turn this causes problems with learning and memory, and leads to depression-like behaviour in the pups. This effect seems to be linked to certain molecules found in the brain, known as the complement signalling pathway, so finding ways to block these rogue signals could lead to life-saving interventions.

Kira x Malia
Who was the one to propose:
Malia was the one to pop the question. They got up to dance at Derek's wedding reception and Kira, while able to handle a katana with ease, still couldn't figure out how to move her body to some music. Malia laughed at her and suddenly asked the question she'd been wanting to ever since Derek announced his engagement. When they told the pack after Derek's honeymoon Stiles yelled that he wanted to be the flower girl since they didn't know anyone under the age of 20 and everyone bought them an early wedding gift of dancing lessons for Kira.
Who stressed more over wedding planning:
Kira started planning the wedding as soon as they bought their rings to make it more official. While they decided to have a small wedding they still needed to invite all of Kira's family. Colors, cake, wine, and everything were easy to figure out since they both had been planning their weddings since they were little girls. It was figuring out the seating for Kira's family that started making Kira pull her hair. After 3 weeks of moving the seating around they finally got it perfect.
Who decorated the house:
Kira and Malia decorated the house together, which sounds fine and normal, except for their really different styles. Kira likes anything pop-artsy and modern, whereas Malia is into a rustic cozy feeling. It created an interesting looking house, but they love their strange home with different colored rooms and clashing decor.
Who does the cooking:
When left alone the girls live off of frozen foods. They eat it so often they can actually tell you what brand has the best lasagna, hamburgers, and anything else you'd like. Normally though, they try to eat at Kira's parents where they can have an actual home cooked meal. Kira's dad has been trying to show his daughter how to make sushi and her mom is trying to teach them some actual meals so the girls won't be eating unhealthy for the rest of their lives, but it's a slow process.
Who does the cleaning:
When the girls first bought their house they never cleaned. Kira's mom would normally have to come over, see their place, and force them to clean it with her. After the sixth threat from her mom though the girls were scared into keeping the place perfectly clean. Now they clean everything as they go and on the weekends Malia cleans upstairs, while Kira handles downstairs.
Who is more organized:
Malia is the more organized of the two of them. She likes her thinks color coded, in alphabetical order, and from smallest to largest. Kira can't blame her since after living in a cave for 8 years having enough things to organize is probably a luxury for Malia, but it does make her feel like a bit of a slob. Malia's assured her she doesn't mind as long as the mess is kept in Kira's office.
Who initiates bedroom fun:
Malia is almost always the one that starts things. Whenever Kira tries she too soft spoken and soft for Malia to get what she wants, but once they've got their clothes off Kira always takes control. Afterwards, Malia always stares at Kira to try and figure out how someone who can barely move their hips while dancing can be that good in bed.
Who suggested kids first:
One time while babysitting her cousins with Malia Kira jokingly mentioned that she never wanted kids. It was a little disappointing for Malia to hear that, but she understood and never brought up the subject. During one of their pack nights Malia overheard Kira talking to Scott in the kitchen about wanting a baby, but not wanting to push Malia since she probably didn't want one after what happened to her mother and sister. At that Malia rushed into the kitchen to ask what Kira was talking about. They both looked at each other in confusion while they explained their assumptions, then laughed at their stupidity. Scott had to leave once they started making out and yelled out a reminder that they couldn't make a baby themselves, so to please not have sex in his kitchen.
Ugh I'm so confused cause I ship Scira but then I ship Malria. Idk which I like more.
preparations
Our visas are finally sorted and we have taken our first malaria tablet, side effects include hallucinations, depressive thoughts and vivid dreams, to mention a few. This could be a very trippy trip to Ghana. Unfortunately our student budget couldn't really afford Malarone
