I think the usage of racist/bigoted dog whistles and 4chan language by the general public online shows just how deeply neo-nazis and extremist conservatives have infiltrated online spaces to make this stuff normalized.

Like, I’m noticing a lot of people in fandom spaces on Twitter saying things like “#\noticing” (no slash) about random things not realizing it’s an antisemitic/neo-nazi dog whistles, which tells me that somewhere in the follow chain they or one of their followers is interacting with neo-nazi accounts. Probably without even realizing it, but enough to adopt the language. It seems small when it’s just random words but now imagine somewhere in that follow train it trickles down that “femininity is divine and masculinity is violent” or “the best way for women to protect themselves against violent men is to dress conservatively and save themselves for marriage”

Everyone talks about the manosphere but no one is talking much about how women have absolutely fallen for their own version as well. And I don’t just mean obvious tradwife content or “blue store, pink store” stuff. What I’m talking about is much more insidious because it isn’t blatantly obvious and it’s what actually creates a pipeline for semi-progressive women to parrot talking points that sound progressive but aren’t.

Women are picked apart constantly for not fitting the new fashion conformity that leans more conservative and into hiding our bodies. Not even standard slutshaming over a miniskirt, but shaming women for wearing skinny jeans instead of baggy, or for not wearing their hair or makeup a specific way that follows a “clean girl” (ahem pure christian girl) aesthetic.

I see so many radfem talking points by “tirfs” not realizing you cannot hold a bioessentialist view and support trans people. Assuming all men are evil, or proudly claiming to be a misandrist are transphobic takes pushed by terfs. Being an anti shipper is terf propaganda. It sounds progressive to say “I’m against porn because women can’t consent to it and it’s unethical” but completely speaks over women in those fields who disagree, it sounds progressive to say “fanfics with [insert taboo fetish] are bad and promoting that” but in reality it shames others for completely fictional and consensual kinks and advocates for censorship.

Idk. I’m tired and I think it’s starting to trickle down to non chronically online women as well which is extremely concerning. We’re living in a time where you need to make sure you question everything and always think critically.
