Finally sat down with some Mandarin. Starting the HSK 1 book.

My Mandarin textbook has like, these four characters they always use: Korean girl, American girl, Chinese dude, and a British guy. And in the reading sections they like, give various scenarios to put the vocab in context. So here's the current synopsis:

American (Li) likes the Chinese guy (Wang) and vice versa. She likes Coke and like, her only apparent trait is that she's just average.

Wang is kinda a jock, and apparently pretty casual. He likes beer I think?

The Brit. (Gao) likes the Korean gal (Bai), and vice versa. He is apparently super uninteresting but likes to sing.

Bai appears to have the best fashion sense of them all and I guess her thing is that she's generous or something?

At first I was just like "yeah whatever, they're just gonna do boring stuff and nothing's gonna develop. Everyone will probably hook up and be fine." But like, things are happening. Like, it's strangely investing.

Wang is the Chinese guy, so everyone keeps asking him for help. There may not be tension between him and Gao. Li heard Wang went somewhere with Bai and is mad jelly. Gao kept waitin around for Bai who was nowhere to be found, only for it to be mentioned that she was looking for Wang.

I want shit to start goin down man. Jealousy. Betrayal. Tension. It's all there. Now I'm waiting for Wang to crack under the pressure of helping g everyone, Li and Bai to get in a bitch fight, and Gao to... continuously be boring...

TL;DR: My Mandarin textbook is becoming a drama i can barely read.

Found my Chinese text books from 2nd grade(10 years ago). Absolutely despised how they taught us language at school. Glad to be able to get back to Mandarin at my own pace :’)
