So I saw this ask that @/blueberry-ry answered and I got thinking and I have a possible compromise? But since I consider a bit... Bad etiquette to jump into posts where someone is like "I don't agree with this point" and try to insist on the point, even to a lesser degree, I'm making a new post.
Culturally there could be two Main Protectors of the Mand'alor - one that is decided via a tournament where killing or heavily injuring someone to the point of a recovery for more than 2 days is OUT, usually practiced by higher clans, to decide The Second Best Fighter (after the Mand'alor, traditionally at least); and another where you have the hand picked Protector from the Mand'Alor. If you want to throw in some sort of spiritual significance, say they are like the Moons of Mandalore, defending the planet - or in this case, the Alor.
What the titles would be in Mando'a idk - or how well that would work. Maybe it's a tradition that isn't really followed. Or it is but those people - or at least one, most likely the hand picked one - usually becomes the right-hand to the Mando'alor.
Or maybe it also symbolises like. Protection from the population and protection from inside the alor's clan. And maybe the one picked in the tournament has less power than the hand-picked one, at least in terms of talking with the Mando'alor. Maybe the Tournament One also "protects" the Alor in politics?
Idk, just a random thought
EDIT: I talked it over with a Friend and we settled on a Possible Solution, which is that the Tournament Protector is the head of the General Guard and the Hand Picked One is the head of the (Royal) Protectors
