Mansam: Alcohol is delicious! ...I mean, MAlicious. Sorry guys, I’m really drunk right now.

Toriko Week Day 1: The IGO
Mansam didn’t understand, for years, why Ichiryuu had taken in those children. Or rather, why he had taken in these particular children. It wasn’t unusual for a child with Gourmet cells to be abandoned in poorer countries; their constant hunger made them difficult to care for at the best of times. Why then, did he chose to care for these particular five himself, when he had passed so many over to suitable care locations like the Shokurin Temple? He found himself pondering that question again late one night, as he sat up at his desk, eyes tired, reading through the next batch of paperwork brought in. Most of it was fairly standard; requests for food (or rather, at this point, pills, since this was in the middle of Midora’s famine), reports from the biotopes that they were still struggling to recreate stable food crops, border guard reports on who had entered the Gourmet World (many were heading there to obtain food. Very few returned)…but some were different. Coded notes, information the IGO shouldn’t have possessed and references to projects Mansam had never even heard of were mixed into the pile. The pills were one of these projects; a cheap way of getting food to non-IGO countries. The wealthy citizen’s of the world were now merely having to eat the same as many of its poorest had for years now. Mansam snorted. He had guessed that Gourmet Santa wasn’t the be all and end all of that project; you can’t live on one meal, no matter how pleasant it is. Still…
Ichiryuu was a secretive man, Mansam knew, but he was coming to understand just how secretive his friend was, and on what scale he thought. Ichiryuu didn’t think in terms of calories and taste; he thought in terms of billions of mouths, in terms of famine, in terms of harvest statistics, in terms of the delicate politics of the IGO. Here and there Mansam discovered backdoor dealings to overcome a problem; Goblin Ramon and Megaodras’ crimes being commuted so they could serve on the 1st Biope staff, certain foodstuffs being legislated against or made freely available to secure funding. Mansam missed his lab; you couldn’t merely grab a world leader and sedate him to solve your problems. Well you could but then you’d lose funds as people pull out and then you need to appease them and you can’t do THAT while the only thing you have to give them are pills. Perhaps that was why Ichiryuu chose to adopt the kids. Maybe he just wanted to only think about the sixth mouths around one dinner table. Mansam sighed, and turned over the form to reveal another coded message written in tiny letters on the back.
Mansam: I trusted you!
Uumen: Why?
Mansam: I'm sure your kids aren't that stupid!
Ichiryuu: Sometimes I have to leave them pictures of food instead of a shopping list.
