Howdy folks!

I’m Mike, and I know it’s been a while since there was a post on this account. The website ManySidedDice.com is run by a friend of mine, and when I was a regular contributor I took it upon myself to start a profile here (as I already use Tumblr and he doesn’t). When life got in the way I wasn’t able to contribute anymore, and my posts here stopped pretty quickly.

But now my friend is getting ready to drop a book on KIckstarter with well over 100 of the creepy, odd, dangerous, and cool magic items he’s been designing for the past few years. It will be fully illustrated, by a team of awesome artists, and packed to the gills with flavor that can be inserted into any fantasy setting.

Did I mention that I’m editing it? It’s certainly going to have its own style.

So, please give it a look and spread the word to anyone you think might be interested!

How an enemy attacks, whether individually or in groups as large as an army, can not only say something about who they are but where they come from. By giving different NPCs their own favorite tactics you can not only make your world more lived-in, you can subtly convey information to the players that their characters might find useful.

From Abin’s Curse...

Watching Ferail hop down from his horse, one leg swinging wider than it needed to and two quick pats to the old grey’s neck before pulling free—the whole series of otherwise forgettable motions made Broadways both elated and enormously sad. Chorom d’Zaet had been his friend, his confidant, had been the one to start him on his own path, had shared with him the Way, and his passing had been particularly hard on the old paladin. Ferail took the opportunity for the break and fed the old grey horse. Oatcakes, looked like. Choron hated oatcakes, wouldn’t eat them and wouldn’t have fed the grey any, either. Broadways felt the urge to stop the young man right then and there, but stopped himself—such a trivial thing, not worth confusing the boy. It had been three weeks together, Ferail with the group. And not once had the young man said more than two words to Broadways in tha time. He had jokes for Meila and traded news with Teller, but he’d been avoiding the old man at every turn. It made Broadways suspicious. It wasn’t until last night that he’d let all that wariness melt away to whatever this melancholy was. In the middle of the meal, when the others were turning their bedrolls out, the young warrior took a bare moment and whispered. “I’m sorry I left you, Brodie—I’m sorry to have put all this on you. The Way is a circle, and long is its course.”

From Lassiter’s Convictus...

System: The Convictus was found, not created. Lassiter was the old soldier of the Lost country—fabled hero that walked the hills and plains and forests of that cursed place bringing retribution and peace wherever he went. His death at the hands of the great winged death that was the Black Tyrant is a story told by old bards to somber men of righteous mein. A cautionary tale that the greatest of heroes die, that not all stories are bright. A century after Lassiter died, it was said that a token of respect and honor carefully placed where he had fallen so long before. The Convictus is clearly and evidently not of this world at all. The half-plate armor is stunning, but unearthly. No seam, no mark, it looks like it was formed without ever having been touched by a smith or hammer. The pieces are not bolted or riveted together, they simply move and slide past each other without connection—never falling apart. Attunement requires forswearing the tides of fortune entirely. An oath to the cosmos that one walks an orderly path. Once attuned, the wearer may not spend Inspriation for any reason. The only thing they can ever do with it is give it to another (represented by their giving an encouraging gesture of some kind). They may still earn Inspiration, and grant it to others in this way, but cannot spend it themselves. Once attuned, the armor counts as +0 magical half-plate. The wearer is now advantaged on saves against magical effects—all such saves. The spirit of the old soldier steels them, body and soul, through the unearthly armor. All such spells, however, cause the wearer to take 1d4 psychic damage (regardless of the save) as the strain of resisting can be difficult. This damage die can explode (on a 4, roll again, add the total; continue until no other 4’s are rolled).
