what always kind of gets me is that while maomao is not lakan-level-not-recognizing-faces, generally isn't particularly good at remembering/recognizing them either. but with suirei she sees her again, the eunuch disguise and all, and immediately recognizes her. when she showed up in the anime admittedly she didn't look that much different, especially in the scene where she and maomao met again, but my impression from the LN is that she still is sort of disguised and it's not immediately recognizable but she just left too strong an impression on maomao that maomao immediately did recognize her.
also the way she described suirei, the heavy emphasis on androgyny and the handsomeness of it all - in a way it reminds me of how she describes jinshi. it's very fun.
