Biblical references in BTS’s ON MV
There is so much material in the new music video for theories, but for now I’m only going to focus on the biblical references because there were so many and I still haven’t wrapped my head around all the other theories I have. Perhaps the most obvious of all the references is the reference to Noah’s Ark
Now, I don’t know exactly what this could be implying, all I know is that it is definitely a reference. Next is the doves. First we see Jin rescuing a wounded dove on a battle field.
Later we see multiple doves flying in the sky and Jin releasing the now healed dove. The dove in known in Christianity as a symbol for the Holy Spirit. But what I think is really interesting is that in the story of Noah’s Ark, Noah sends out a dove to find land after the flood. This ties in with the reference to Noah’s ark from earlier.
In the music video Jungkook is seen with thorns wrapped around his wrists acting as handcuffs. This symbolizes the crown of thorns Jesus wears when he is crucified. I don’t know if this ties in with theories at all, but I do want to mention that the crown of thorns was given to Jesus to mock him for being the “king of the Jews”.
Towards the end of the MV, Jungkook enters a river and dips his hand into the water and they transform into a conch shell. I think this is referencing Jesus’s baptism in the Jordan river (which, by the way when that happens, the holy spirit appears in the form of a dove).
Next is Tae. He is seen laying on the ground and I have to say, when I saw the position that we was lying in, it seemed very familiar to me.
Tae is seen with a young girl who is blindfolded. Later he takes off the blindfold. This perhaps could be referencing when Jesus gives a blind man sight. Tae also has a tattoo on his neck that looks like thorns, perhaps also referencing the crown of thorns.
In the song the also say “bring the pain” which makes me think of how Jesus suffered and died on the cross to save humanity. This next thing may be purely coincidental, but I think it is really interesting that this MV was released on the second day of Lent which is the liturgical season leading up to Jesus’s death on the cross. Thank you so much for reading, I hope you enjoyed. Again I haven’t had a chance to fully wrap my head around everything yet, so feel free to add stuff on!
I’m not crying. You’re crying
