So honoured to be part of Abi's HUGE day today, where she ran her first marathon around the bays of Wellington. 2020 was booked to be her first marathon, in May. That got postponed to September. Then cancelled outright. Then an alternative floated. Then that cancelled also. A plan was hatched with her magnificent coach Jaime. A customised MaraQueen. A day all of her own. Crowds of thousands of people? Nope. A complicated route to get to the start line? Nope. Queues for the bathroom? Nope. Not being able to spot your friends or family on the sidelines? Nope. But what about: a personalised start time? Yes! How about more than one pacer in a happy pack - including a dog pacer? Heck yes! A customised mobile aid station and cheer station with sparkling pom poms? YES. An almighty coach who passes bottles, gels, chews and bananas on demand as well as a picnic supply at the ready? YES. Why only one mobile aid station and cheer station? Ok let's make it a 42.2k party with beautiful friends joining us all along the way and everywhere popping out of cars, from a motorbike, riding past on bikes, waving from cars, and runners for company all around (and did I mention the dog that joined us?) ❤️🎉✨ There are many things that have been turned upside down by this year. And in some places it surfaces the beauty of what was most important in the journey or in the goal. Today I saw focus. Joy. Steadiness. Dedication. Endurance. Resilience. Creativity. Wonder. Love. Your marathon was different to what you expected @abi_deee and holy moly, you did it proud 🙌 #marathoner #maraqueen #subfour #WOAGD https://www.instagram.com/p/CFBpM1dnf85m9NDVy1LWL12jKGOrCSFDjMO1e40/?igshid=esrgtyyml5tn
